Chapter 32

She shrugs. “I just wanted someone familiar on The Beast with me,” she says, making him grin.

“Then, let’s do this together, shall we?”

She nods and lines up in front of the first obstacle.

“You’ve got this, Cassie! One level at a time!” I shout as the others begin cheering for her.

She turns to look at me, and I give her the thumbs up.

She nods and turns back, focusing. When Dane calls to start, she races up the ramp and leaps to the first rung, then she begins to climb.

Our group of friends begins cheering wildly for her, encouraging her. She’s not as fast as Ezra, but he stops at the top, obviously encouraging her as well. When she gets to the top, Alpha Ezra takes off into The Beast.

Cassie is already panting, but she turns to look at me before racing into The Beast.

“One level at a time,” I mouth to her. She nods again and takes off running.

“Giving insider information, Sebastiana?” Nicholas growls.

“Shut the fuck up, Nicky,” Shane growls.

“Take one level at a time, Nicky. There, now you have the insider information too. I wouldn’t want you to be able to say that Cassie, who hadn’t even planned to take the warrior route before she got here, is doing better on The Beast than you. Oh, wait? Have you even cleared the first level yet?” I ask, taunting him.

“He finally got to level two yesterday, remember? It took him two days to climb the upper body ladder,” Cole says. “Tell me, how is it that an Alpha is so weak he can’t climb an upper body ladder?”

“You’ve got a smart mouth,” Nicholas growls, looking like he’s ready to fight.

“Alpha Nicholas!” Dane barks. “You’re up.”

I turn and see Cassie jogging back over to us. She’s got a scratch on her cheek.

“Cassie, what happened?” I ask. I’d been distracted and not paying attention to her progress.

“I slipped and fell on the second challenge, but that’s okay. You were right, Sebi. Take one challenge at a time and I needed to face my fear. Riding the Beast isn’t as scary as watching everyone get injured every day.”

I hug my friend. “I’m so proud of you.”

“Thanks for helping me through it, Sebi. I can’t wait to go again!”

“That’s what friends are for,” I say, turning to watch Nicky climb the ladder against Alpha Benjamin.

“Bets on how far he gets?” I ask, thinking of Alpha Benjamin and his sideline bets with the other

instructors.

“Level two,” Justin says.

“Level three,” Shane says.

“Three,” Cole agrees.

When Nicky falls to the ground at level three, he’s got a busted nose with blood dripping down his face and shirt.

“I’ll take him to the medical center,” Alpha Benjamin says, climbing down The Beast.

“I’m fine,” I hear Nicky say, his words garbled because his nose is so swollen.

“That’s for the doctor to decide,” Dane tells him, turning back to us.

“Alpha Sebastiana, you’re up.”

“Alpha Ryan,” I say, grinning at my brother who growls and excited “Yeah!”

When I get to the starting line up, I look from my brother to my uncle. “What’s the bet?”

Dane grins. “Level five.”

”

I crack my neck. “Level six it is,” I say making him laugh.
