Even though Sophia had seen with her own eyes how powerful Luna was and how she had taken down a Four–Star Martial Artist with ease, Sophia still couldn’t shake the worry in her heart.
She knew all too well that in the Blackwood family, Dylan was the weakest one.
Olivia was a Four–Star too. Her fiancé, Eliot, had already reached Six–Star level. And the Walker family’s private guards? Any one of them could make a person vanish easily.
Sophia sighed. “If they really want to destroy us, it won’t matter where we hide.”
It wasn’t hard for either the Blackwoods or the Walkers to track someone down. As that thought sank in. Sophia’s tears fell harder. The guilt weighed heavily on her shoulders. She blamed herself inwardly. This is all my fault. I couldn’t protect them.”
Sophia cried, “Luna, I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t have had to go through all that…”
Not wanting to see her mother blaming herself, Luna gently cut her off. “It’s fine, Mom. What’s done is done. From now on, we’ll be alright. All of us.”
On the battlefield, she was fearless. When she led, victory always followed. But no matter how ruthless she was in combat, when it came to her family, she was always softhearted. They were her only weakness in this world.
“Don’t worry, Mom,” Ethan chimed in, his eyes glowing. “One day, I’m gonna get really strong too. I’ll protect you and Luna.”“”
‘I swear I’ll train hard, so I can protect them both. Just like Luna, Ethan thought.
Sophia smiled through her tears and gave his cheek a gentle pinch.
Ethan was already fighting off sleep. Earlier, when danger was near, he forced himself to stay alert. But now, he could barely keep his eyes open.
“Mom, Ethan is sleepy. Take him to bed,” Luna said.
Sophia nodded and lifted her son into her arms. She said to Luna over her shoulder, “Take a shower, alright? I’ll lay out fresh sheets for you in a bit.”
Everything had been ready since she moved in years ago. Even though it had just been her and Ethan living here, she’d always kept an extra room ready, just in case Luna ever came back.
But for five long years, there hadn’t been a single word from Luna. Sophia had nearly given up hope. Now that her daughter had finally returned, she was determined to make it right.
“It’s okay, Mom. I can handle it. Just stay with Ethan, Luna replied.
In Luna’s mind, Ethan was still a child and needed comfort. She was an adult. She didn’t need anyone to take
care of her.

“Alright. Go shower then, Sophia said as she carried Ethan into the bedroom.

Luna found the bathroom and stepped into the hot water, letting it wash away the grime and tension. It wasn’t until she was done that she realized she hadn’t brought any clothes.
She reached for her comms device, ready to call someone from her unit to deliver a set, when a knock sounded on the door. Sophia’s voice came. “Luna, are you done? I brought you some clean clothes. Open up.”
Luna canceled the call, wrapped herself in a towel, and stepped out. Sophia had already placed a folded set of fresh clothes on the counter. They weren’t Sophia’s size–they were clearly bought for someone Luna’s
age.
Seeing Luna’s puzzled expression, Sophia explained, “Over the years, whenever I saw something nice, I’d buy it for you. Even though…”
Even though every time she brought something home, she found Luna still wasn’t there. And every time, that ache in Sophia’s heart grew heavier.
Luna pulled Sophia into a hug, but she said nothing.
“Well, you must be very tired. Get changed and go to sleep early, okay?” Sophia said while patting Luna’s back.
Sophia could tell that though Luna was back, something had changed. She seemed distant, like she wasn’t used to being close with people anymore.
Sophia thought, ‘It’s been five years. We’ve grown apart, but that’s alright. She’s home now. We have time to fix this.
