Chapter 20

Sophia believed that they could find a place for their family to stay in the world. More than anything, she just wanted her children to be safe and happy. That would be enough for her

Luma squinted against the blinding camera flashes, then slowly lowered her hand. The moment she did, the entire crowd went silent. It was a face that could freeze the world

Her striking beauty hit the crowd like a punch. She was even more beautiful than the celebrities and actresses. And the people who were gossiping just seconds before were now holding their breath

Luna’s looks weren’t soft or delicate, but bold. She wore a short white dress that ended just above her knees, showing off her long, toned legs

She didn’t choose this dress for the attention. It was something Sophia had bought a while ago, before Luna even came back. Luna hadn’t bothered to shop for anything new, so she picked this one

Luna wasn’t even wearing heavy makeup, and she didn’t need to. Her natural features were more stunning than anything foundation could cover

Someone said, I thought five years in prison would’ve broken her. Guess I was dead wrong. She looks even more dangerous than before

It was like no compliment could really describe how strikingly beautiful she was

A man smiled, Man, if Eliot sees her looks now, who do you think he’d pick? If it were me, I’d be torn.”

Torn? Please. She’s still a woman with a bad history. Just a pretty face with nothing behind it,” another man scoffed

Nearby, Ethan’s small fists clenched. His eyes were burning with anger as he stared at the people talking. He thought bitterly. These people are awful. All they do is badmouth us

He grabbed Luna’s hand and said in a firm voice, “Don’t be scared, Luna. I’ll protect you.”

Luna’s heart softened instantly when she heard those words from her sixyearold little brother

She smiled, I’m fine. Just not used to all the lights and noise. She was used to life on the battlefieldfast, sharp, deadly. Cameras and whispers weren’t something she could face with ease

We can always leave, honey,” Sophia said. She already had a feeling that Judy wouldn’t make this night easy

for them

Luna met Sophia’s eyes and replied, Mom, I told you as long as I’m here, no one’s going to hurt you. Let’s go.”

Since they all seemed so eager for her to show up, Luna wasn’t about to disappoint them

Luna walked into the hotel with Sophia and Ethan by her side. At the entrance, the security guards stopped them and spent a long time checking their invitation before finally letting them in

What was that about?Sophia asked, confused. It’s just an engagement party. Why all the extra security? Are they expecting some big shot or something? She glanced at Luna, who looked completely calm, so Sophia let

it go

Inside the grand ballroom, Olivia had already arrived. She was the star of the night, and everywhere she turned, people congratulated her. They praised her talent, her beauty, and how lucky she was to have a fiancé like Eliot

Olivia kept smiling at the guests, warm and polite. It was her perfect mask. Whenever people were around. she made sure that mask never slipped

Just then, Eliot arrived. As a senior officer in the Metroville Warfare Division, he immediately became the center of attention. The flattery shifted straight to him

But he walked right past the crowd and went directly to Olivia, gently taking her hand. Are you tired, honey? Sorry I’m late. Something came up at the Division.”
