Chapter 30

Sophia nodded. She’d always known Donald’s car crash wasn’t an accident, but she’d never imagined the Blackwoods could be so ruthless. How could they do such a thing to a man who had been nothing but kind to them?
With one hand on Sophia’s arm and the other holding Ethan’s, Luna led them
cuit.
When they had arrived, not a soul had offered them a moment of respect. Now, as they departed, Luna had made the Blackwoods understand the true meaning of fear.
As they left, Mark moved to take Dylan into custody, but Dylan began to struggle, resisting him.
“Captain, please, whatever you want, I’ll do it–just spare me!” he cried, his voice trembling. “I cannot go to Metroville Prison! I am the second son of the Blackwood family; I don’t belong there!”
Dylan grabbed Mark’s arm, but with a sharp yank, Mark sent him sprawling from his wheelchair.
“Captain. I’m telling you the truth! Everyone in Metroville knows that Luna is a murderer! You didn’t witness the arrogance she just displayed!” Dylan continued to slander Luna.
“I’m sorry. Mr. Blackwood, but I’m merely following orders,” Mark said. “If you feel you’ve been wronged, you will have a chance to speak once we get to the Metroville Prison.” With that, he kicked Dylan aside.
“Grandma, what are we going to do now?” Celeste asked, her voice shaking. “Did Uncle Donald… did Dad really kill him?”
Luna’s presence today had been truly terrifying. If Dylan had, in fact, killed Luna’s father, they knew with absolute certainty that Luna would never show them any mercy.
Though Judy’s eyes nearly bulged from their sockets in shock, as the matriarch of the family, she knew she had to remain calm.
It was at moments like these that her composure was needed most.
“Eliot,” Judy said, turning to him, I fear we must ask your father for help.
Quinn, as the patriarch of the White family, was a man of considerable influence in Metroville; even the mayor would show him some deference.
Eliot’s face hardened as he nodded.
“Don’t worry, I’ll contact my father immediately. He had never imagined the Blackwood family could be so entangled in such a mess, but he genuinely cared for Olivia and could not stand idly by.
Olivia poured a pill from a small bottle and handed it to him.
“Eliot,” she said, “do not worry. One day, you will be even more powerful than Luna. The humiliation we have suffered today I will repay her for it twofold.”

Olivia knew her own martial arts skills were poor, but the was a gifted herbalist. The pills the made were incredibly effective at enhancing one’s power
Eliot took the pill and swallowed it immediately. Sure enough, his internal energy began to flow much more smoothly than before.
“Captain,” he said, turning back to Mark “You may take him, but the rest of us have nothing to do with this. I trust you will not trouble the other members of the Blackwood family”
Mark offered no response, finding their delusion amusing. Did they truly believe Quinn’s arrival could somehow make them a match for Lama?
But that was no concern of his. If they wished to court death, he would not stop them.
“Naturally, Mark replied. “Without sufficient evidence, I will not touch any of the other Blackwoods.”
With a gesture, he ordered his men to drag the struggling Dylan away.
“Eliot, you have to save my father, Olivia said, her voice strained but her composure unwavering. The Blackwood family cannot be without him. If he were sent to prison, she couldn’t fathom how she would ever face the city’s high society again.
Eliot nodded solemnly. “Here is what we shall do,” he said. “You must rally every ounce of power the Blackwood family can muster. I will go to my father now. With him intervening, I’m certain the mayor will show him some deference.”
As the families were deeply intertwined, the Blackwoods‘ fall would inevitably drag the Whites down with them. The gravity of the situation was now clear to all.
Very well, Eliot. We are in your debt,” Judy said, her voice unusually polite. She then turned to Olivia. “Olivia, go and see Eliot out.”
Luna had clearly returned for revenge, and they would not let her get away with it.
“Uncle Thomas,” Olivia said, “go and rally every force the Blackwood family can muster. And spare no expense to hire some skilled martial artists. This Luna is far from ordinary.”
“I’ll take care of it right away,” Thomas replied, his face grim.
He had sided with Dylan five years ago, never imagining that Luna would have become so powerful. But he had made his choice, and now, there was no turning back.
As Mark led Dylan outside, his eyes fell upon Julian, who was waiting there.
Mark had met Julian before during the military selection in Grovis, and he knew exactly who he was,
A man like Julian, the young master of the Frost family, was a future heir to the Ironrile Empire. Why would he be here in Metroville, a mere second–tier city?

Mark could not fathom how this minor family affair had attracted his attention.

Mark walked over to greet him. “Mr. Frost?” he asked. Having seen so many influential people in Metroville lately, he had a premonition that something big was about to happen.
Julian nodded in acknowledgment, and Mark hurried over at once.
“Mr. Frost. Mark asked, “what brings you to Metroville? Has something happened that I am not aware of?”
As head of the security force, he felt blind to the powerful forces gathering in his city.
“Captain,” Julian said, his voice cold as ice, “keep a close eye on that man. You learned a fair number of interrogation techniques during your training in Grovis–use them all.”
Mark froze. For such a powerful man to involve himself in the Blackwoods‘ affairs, it seemed the family was truly finished. Julian had delivered his command and was already turning to leave.
Julian finished speaking and turned to leave.
“Captain, we are in your debt, Noah said, his tone polite. “If you ever find yourself in Grovis and need anything, do not hesitate to ask.”
“Sir, you are too kind,” Mark replied, in a tone that showed his complete deference. “It is my duty.” He nodded, offered a few more polite words, and then led his men away.
Noah hurried ahead to open the door of the Maybach, and Julian got in.
“Mr. Frost,” Noah said, “I never imagined the Blackwoods could be so shameless as to harm their own flesh and blood.”
“That is the way of noble families,” Julian replied. “You have been with the Frost family long enough to know that, haven’t you?” Julian had outmaneuvered countless rivals to become the heir; he had certainly seen his fair share of such things.
