Chapter15
1 replied as I bent over the table, “A friend of mine wants me to visit.” That’s the closest to the truth he is going to get right now. He hummed in response, seeming to accept the answer.
He inched closer to me, barely caressing the side of my stomach where my shirt had risen. My breath hitched as I felt his hand move lower. I cursed when the ball missed the pocket. It was only when I saw a smug smirk appear on his face, that I realised that he did it on purpose. And it
fucking worked.
“If I could slap that damn expression off your face, I would,” I sneered, “But that would be animal
abuse.”
He had the audacity to grin even wider, showing off his pearly teeth. “I didn’t know you were so
attracted to me, Riley.” He said, teasingly.
I glared at him. “You fucking wish.” As if I’m actually attracted to him. It’s basic human
hormones that cause such a reaction.
He shrugged, looking me up and down before positioning himself at an angle at the table to get the ball in the pocket. If that’s the game he wanted to play, so be it. He’ll learn not to start
something when he doesn’t know the other player.
Just before he could hit the white ball, I ‘accidentally‘ dropped my cue stick. I crouched down to get it but as I stood up, I ran my hand up his leg, holding onto his belt to pull myself up.
I tried to hold in a smile when I saw that his aim was off and the ball missed. “Well, well,” I laughed, “I didn’t know you were so attracted to me, Pyros,” I mocked, repeating his words.
He scowled and stood straight, towering over my height. I held his stare, refusing to be the first one to break eye contact. I didn’t realise that I was biting my lips until he glanced down.
Pyros clenched his jaw, turning away. I swear I saw a hint of a smile. “Play.” He said firmly.
I did and was relieved that he didn’t try anything else but I could feel him practically burning a hole into my shirt with his stare which unnerved me. I shook it off, though, choosing to ignore
him.
A few minutes pass before he spoke. “Can I ask you something?” I eyed him briefly and noted the genuine expression on his face. “Go ahead,” I said, giving him my full attention.

“Where is your mother?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “I know you said she left a letter for about your father but you never said what happened to her.”

1 sighed. I already knew this question was coming but I didn’t think it would be this soon. I cleared my throat, blinking back the tears that threaten to surface. Even though it’s been years, it still hurts to think about it. “She abandoned me when I was fifteen,” I finally answered. At this point,
the game is forgotten.
“I have no idea where she is,” I said honestly, “And I don’t want to know.” It’s true. I have the resources to find her if I want to, Shawn could have tracked her location in a second. I don’t care enough to wonder if she is even still alive.
Pyros looked at me sympathetically. He looked awkward as he rubbed my arm as if he never had to comfort someone before now. “My mother left me too,” He muttered, “A few months before you
were born.”
“Well, we have that in common,” I joked, “We both have mommy issues.”
I was startled when I heard his deep, bellowing laughter. He has an amazing laugh. Holy shit.
I join him, laughing before I shoved him away, gently. “Okay, enough of that. Let’s finish this
game.”
He nodded, a small grin still on his face as he watched me.
The game continued and I only had one more ball before I could pocket the 8 ball and win.
Unfortunately, Pyros also needs to pocket one more ball and it’s his turn. He could easily win.
I held my breath in anticipation as he was about to hit the white ball. Suddenly, a loud bang echoed
through the room, causing Pyros to lose focus and accidentally pocket the white ball. I love
whoever made that sound.
“Foul!” I shouted in relief.
Before he could reply, the door opened and someone I didn’t recognise peeked into the room. “My bad, Prez,” He said, entering the room. “I kicked the wall.”
I studied him. He looked around Pyros‘ age. His light blond hair was pulled into a bun and his hazel eyes sparkled with mirth. Just like most of the other men I’ve seen in the club, he was heavily tattooed. His cut had ‘secretary‘ stitched on it.

“Well, hello pretty lady,” He purred, checking me out. “What’s your name?”
I opened my mouth to answer but Pyros cut me off. “Cyanide,” He snared, glowering at the newcomer. “Get out.” He was obviously pissed.
Cyanide raised his hand in surrender and backed away slowly to the door. “Bye beautiful,” He waved, “See you soon.” Then he ran out of the room laughing when Pyros threw the chalk at him.
I raised an eyebrow in amusement and curiosity but he shrugged. “Go on,” He said motioning to
the table.
I nodded and took a breath. I can win.
