I smiled in appreciation. “Thank you, Killian.” He nodded, patting my arm.
He left the suitcases at the side of the bed. “When you finished getting settled, meet me in my office, please” He stated before leaving, softly closing the door.
I smiled softly when I saw Collin yawn and rub his eyes. “Sleepy, baby?” I asked, smoothing his hair. He nodded, snuggling in my neck. I rubbed his back as he fell asleep quickly in my arms, obviously exhausted from the flight and drive.
I gently placed him down in the crib that Killian had thoughtfully put in the room. He curled into himself, nuzzling into the pillow.
I bent down, picked up the suitcase and dropped it on the bed. I unzipped it and glared at the mess of clothes. Normally I would be more neat and organized but since I was in a rush, I just threw the clothes in the suitcase, not bothering to fold them. Killian said that everything in the room is the
same so I should have some clothes in the closet.
I opened the closet and was glad to see that I was right. I just have one problem. I’m not positive that the clothes would still fit since I wore those before I got pregnant.
I shrugged, not bothering to worry. Whatever I have would work for now. If not, I can stop at a clothing store to buy what I need.
I sifted through the clothes in my luggage and took out a top and leggings. I placed them on the bed before going into the bathroom.
I had a quick shower and changed into the clothes. I checked on Collin, ensuring he’ll be okay
when I leave the room. I know I have nothing to worry about since Killian had this place locked up
like a fortress.
Just as I closed the door, my phone rang. “Shit,” I cursed under my breath when I saw my father’s
name on the screen. I was supposed to call him hours ago.
“Hey dad,” I answered, giving a tight–lipped smile at a maid who walked in front of me.
I heard him sigh, exasperatedly. “Don’t ‘hey‘ me young lady,” He snarked but I could hear the worry in his voice. “You were supposed to call as soon as you reach that town and you still have
not told me where exactly that is, either.”

“Dad,” I said calmly, “I’m sorry. I was catching up with my friend and forgot to call. I promise it won’t happen again.” I know that he’s worried and afraid of losing me again.
I’m afraid too for that exact same reason. After so many years, I finally have a father. I don’t want
to lose that.
It was silent for a few seconds before he replied. “It’s okay. Just please, be safe.”
I smiled, nodding and then realised he couldn’t see me. “I will. I have to go now but I will call you
back soon.”
He protested but relented after I reassured him. I hung up the phone shortly after and tucked it
into my back pocket. I need to see Killian now.
As I walked to his office, I noticed that there are guards everywhere. The last time I was here, there were many guards but definitely not a small army. I looked around and there seemed to be
more cameras installed than before as well.
Whatever happened to cause Killian to be this cautious was obviously terrible and made me wish that I pushed him to tell me before I left America. I could have been more prepared, both mentally and physically.
I knocked on his door and entered, not bothering to wait for him to answer. I had not expected a gun to be pointed in my direction, though.
“Killian,” I said softly, taking a hesitant step forward. He shook his head before lowering the gun. “What the hell happened?”
The man I knew was normally composed, calm and not easily startled.
He sighed and ran a hand over his face as though he could wipe the exhaustion he felt away. He stood from his desk and pulled me into a hug.
He trembled in my arms as he broke down. I rubbed his back, whispering words of
encouragement.
“I fucked up, Riley.” His voice cracked as he spoke. He hung his head low.
I tipped his face so he would look me in the eyes and clasped his hands in mine. “Killian, I will help in any way I can, okay? So, please, what’s wrong?”
His hands squeezed mine for a brief second as he took a breath and began to explain.
