Chapter24
“I am going to call the Russian Pakhan and speak to Sofia,” I said, ignoring his question.
He opened his mouth to say something but I cut him off. “I suspect the only reason Ilya does not allow you to speak to your sister is because she does not want to talk to you. You were so very wrong in what you did and she has every right to be angry.”
“I know,” He said, casting his eyes to the floor. “I just want to make sure she is safe. His number is already stored on my phone.”
nodded, taking his phone and dialling the number. After a few rings, I heard an aggravated sigh
on the other end.
“Stop. Fucking. Calling,” Ilya growled, hanging up before I could get a word out. How rude. Then again, I know how annoying Killian can be sometimes.
I highly doubt he would answer again but I have some hope. Surprisingly, he did answer after I called 5 more times. I honestly don’t know why he didn’t block the number yet.
“You have exactly one minute to say what you have to and if you call again I will send someone to kill you,” He grumbled.
I held in a laugh, remembering that Sofia once said something similar when I called her a morning, a few months ago.
“Shouldn’t you at least ask who’s calling before making threats?” I mused, shooting Killian a glare when he tried to listen to the conversation. I motioned for him to get back in his seat.
I heard soft murmurs on Ilya’s end. I could not understand the words, though.
“Who is this?” He demanded.
I rolled my eyes. He really needs to work on his manners. “My name is Rogue but I doubt you’ve heard of me. I’m not really into the Mafia scene.”
“Ah, yes. Rogue. I’ve heard whispers of your name, here and there. I did not expect Killian to contact you, though.”
“Well, he did.”
“If you know what’s best for you, you would hang up right now and go back to America,” He

advised. I’m not even going to bother asking how he knew that.
I sighed, “Listen, I just want to speak to Sofia, okay? Please.” Soft voices spoke in the background and I know he was asking her if that is alright.
A few seconds passed before I heard a quiet voice speak.
“Riley!” Sofia exclaimed, her voice full of excitement.
“Sofia!” I returned the enthusiasm, “How are you? Why didn’t you call me? Are you alright?”
She giggled, “One question at a time, please. But yes I’m good, amazing actually. I didn’t call because I didn’t want to cause you any problems but I see a certain someone didn’t care.” She said the last part bitterly.
I glanced at Killian for a second. “You’re angry, furious and I understand. He should have used his
brain.”
She made a sound of agreement. “I hope you slapped him for me.”
I chuckled, “You know I did. He’s really sorry, though and he’s worried about you.”
She huffed a breath. “Yeah, I know. I’ve been refusing to talk to him for weeks. He has been driving Ilya crazy with the amount of times he called. It’s really amusing.”
“I could imagine,” I smiled even though she can’t see. “Ilya likes you,” I stated as the video popped into my head.
She was silent for a moment before replying, “He loves me.” She continued, “We actually met a while ago.”
My eyes widened. I did not expect that. “I’m happy for you, Sofia,” I said honestly.
“But can you please at least talk to your brother? He’s going crazy with worry.”
She laughed, “I will, soon. I just need a little more time.‘
“Thank you. Also, who is managing my business if you’re with Ilya?” I inquired.
She responded, “I am, don’t worry. I go to the company ever so often but I mostly work remotely.”
“Okay, good,” She knows what she’s doing and is amazing at her job, so I have no reason to be

concerned.
I heard a man saying something in Russian over the phone and it sounded urgent.
“It was nice talking to you and I missed you but I really need to go right now but I’ll call soon to update you on work and life. Bye and please be safe,” She rushed out before I could say a word and
hung up.
Well, that wasn’t weird at all. I shook my head.
“What did she say? Is she okay? Do I need to kill him?” Killian bombarded me with questions.
“Calm down. Sofia’s fine. She said she would contact you when she’s ready. She just needs some time,” I summarised.
He slumped in his chair, running a hand through his hair and sighed with relief.
I got up from my seat and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Everything will be alright,” I reassured him before walking out of his office.
