After Calvert left, she stood by the window, staring blankly out of it for a long time, until her assistant knocked on the door to remind her of a discussion later.Â
She rubbed her brows, composed herself, and nodded. “After this afternoon’s meeting, send a notice to all project teams working overtime this past weekend to go home and rest. They can come back to work tomorrow afternoon.Â
“This break doesn’t count as time off. Their overtime hours will still be recorded and compensated. They can still take time off after the project is finished.”Â
As the assistant was about to leave, she thought for a moment and spoke up.Â
Ash valued efficiency, but she valued the health of her employees even more. She didn’t want to be a ruthless capitalist. She wanted to make money, but she wanted to earn it with a clear conscience.Â
The assistant nodded happily. “Then I’ll thank you on behalf of everyone. Also, Alison doesn’t seem to be satisfied with the previous team members.Â
“Maida hopes you can spare about half an hour for her. She wants to discuss some issues with you.”Â
Ash turned around and looked at her assistant. “Not satisfied? What’s there to be unsatisfied about? She’s only been here for less than a day, and she’s already dissatisfied?”Â
“I’m not sure. That’s the feedback I received. I heard she talked to Maida for almost an hour, expressing some of her own opinions about the company and hoping for improvements.” The assistant clicked her tongue, not daring to say more.Â
After all, Alison was a member of the Turner family and a relative of Ash’s. She couldn’t be sure what their relationship was like.Â
She thought, ‘So Alison came here to help Ash manage the company?Â
‘Or is it just to make her sick?Â
This method is really low–end.’Â
“Let Maida handle it first. If this kind of thing needs to be reported to me, then why do I need her?” Ash didn’t mean to make things difficult for Maida.Â
As the company’s HR director, she felt that Maida should be familiar with this kind of thing.Â
Ash was considerate of employees, but it did not mean that employees didn’t have to do anythingÂ
“Okay, Ms. Turner, Maida made an appointment to meet with you. Will you still see her? You are available between 4.30 and 5.00 p.m. The assistant still asked.Â
Ash pondered for a few seconds. “Yes, I will see her. Let her come to my office at 4.30 pm. Also, ask her to bring the employee roster.”Â
At 4.30 p.m., Maida arrived as scheduled, looking distraught.Â

She glanced at Maida. “What happened? What did Alison say to you?”Â
Maida wanted to cry but had no tears left. If it had been a normal new employee, it would have been easy to deal with, but Alison was related to the Turner family. All she could do was endure. She had been dragged along by Alison all morning, listening to her talk.Â
Maida said, “She thinks our company’s rules are unreasonable. She doesn’t understand why we have to pay overtime and allow time off in lieu. She’s very dissatisfied and thinks it will lower profits.”Â
Ash said, “She’s quite the advocate for the company, isn’t she? Does she really think this is her own company? These rules are not up to her to set. If she has any objections, tell her to come to me.”Â
