Due to her injury, the high heels that Brooke had originally chosen for Ash could no longer be worn. 

She was dressed in a black halter mini dress, tight at the top and flowing at the bottom. Her long, slender legs looked even more captivating and alluring, but her feet were surprisingly casual in a pair of slippers. 

Ash’s arm was supported by Calvert’s strong hand. Her ankle still tingled with dull pain. She was leaning on him, relying on his strength to stay upright. 

Calvert noticed her limp and the way she walked, his emotions swirling in his narrowed gaze. He let go of her arm, instead wrapping his own around her shoulders. “We’ll leave as soon as it’s over,” he said quietly. 

“It looks like we really are in love now, don’t we?” Ash said as she walked from the doorway to the table, drawing envious and jealous stares. 

Most of the looks were filled with jealousy, especially since Calvert, standing beside her, was the dream man of thousands of girls in Riverstone–the most promising and successful president in the city. 

He wrapped his large hand around her shoulder, his voice low and muffled as he said, “Isn’t this what you wanted?” 

Ash rolled her eyes dramatically. “What are you talking about? I didn’t mean that at all. But I do think that for these few moments, we really do seem to be in love.” 

‘Others won’t be able to tell we’re acting,” she added casually. “After all, we’re pretty good at this.” 

Her words made Calvert’s face darken. “If you don’t keep mentioning things like ‘partnership‘ every now and then, you’ll forget what our real relationship is, won’t you?” 

Hearing what he said, Ash let out a laugh, her tone blunt and natural. “Yes, after all, you’re so irresistible, Mr. Snider. I’d be insane not to remind myself of that every now and then, just in case I fall too deeply into this.” 

“That’s why I have to keep reminding myself of our ‘relationship,” she continued with a playful sparkle in her eyes. “Otherwise, what would I do if I really got into it? Would you really be responsible for me then, Mr. Snider?” Her gaze was bright, her pearl earrings catching the light in Calvert’s dark, deep eyes. 

Calvert stopped and looked at her seriously. “Why wouldn’t I be responsible for you? Are you saying I wouldn’t be? 

Ash was clearly taken aback. She had been joking, flirting, but Calvert took it seriously. Suddenly, her heart raced, and her throat tightened. 

She wanted to say that she was just joking, but when the words came to her lips, she found it hard to speak,
