Chapter 234Â
After Vania yelled, the room tell into an eerie silence.Â
Til step out to the hatemmy? Ash muttered, opening the balcony door and stepping outside before closing it quietly behindÂ
Vama las down hand on her lower lip, tears streaming down her face. “Why are you treating me like this, Calvert? You never treated me like this when you were with jade. What kind of spell has she cast on you?”Â
Calvert’s expression was solemn. “Vania, why do you have such a problem with her? Has she done something to hurt you?”Â
“You just blamed her for not coming to see you immediately. But before you say that, did you ever consider why she didn’t come right away?”Â
“Was Jade the first to arrive? Why do you always defend her so blindly?” Calvert’s voice was cold, his tone neutral.Â
Vania lowered her head, still frustrated. “Jade might not have been the first, but she arrived before Ash. And since Ash’s marrying into our family, she’s expected to act this way.”Â
“Why must she act this way? Just because she’s marrying into our family, does that mean she has to prioritize you? Do you think marrying us means she’s selling herself to us?”Â
“You’re always defending her!” Vania yelled, her frustration boiling over. “Even now, you’re still standing up for her. I can’t even say a word without you getting upset!” She knew she was wrong, but her emotions overwhelmed her.Â
Tears the size of peas welled up in Vania’s eyes, her voice thick with hurt. “You always used to protect me. Why has everything changed since she came into the picture? Why is it so different now?”Â
“Vania, what’s different? You’ve had a problem with her from the start. No matter what she does, you find fault with it. Have you ever considered trying to get along with her?”Â
Her voice trembled with tears. “Stop! I don’t want to hear it! You’re not trying to help me–you’re just trying to defend her.”Â
“Fine, then get out!” Vania’s temper flared as she grabbed a pillow and threw it at him. “You’ve changed. Now that you have Ash, you’ve forgotten about me.”Â
Calvert sighed in exasperation, tilting his head to avoid the pillow. With one hand on his hip, he asked, “Vania, did Jade say something to you?”Â
“Jade didn’t say anything. She’s been comforting me, telling me none of this is my fault. It has nothing to do with me.”Â
Calvert had said the same thing. So had Dorothy. But Vania only seemed to listen to Jade.Â
Calvert felt a headache coming on as he watched Vania cry. He hated seeing her like this, but it was clear there was little he could do to stop it right now. “Vania, you need to calm down.”Â
“None of us wants this to happen. Please, stop crying, alright?” Calvert’s voice was gentle, though he wasn’t good at comforting people. Vania had always had a bit of a temper growing up. She usually managed to calm herself down quickly.Â
She was always like that–her emotions would flare up quickly, but they faded even faster. It was because, for the most part, she had never been wronged.Â
But this time was different. Vania hadn’t just suffered physical pain–what hurt more was the emotional wound, one that would leave a scar for the rest of her life.Â

Her head lowered, her eyes still swollen, and as she cried again, they began to swell even more. “Why did this happen to me, Calvert?” she whispered.Â
I always thought something was off about him, but every time we met, it was in dimly lit places, so I never got a good look at him. Even during our video calls, the lighting was always poor.”Â
“I had met some of his friends before. They all called him Quinton, but that name was fake, too. How could I have been so foolish? Why did I believe everything they told me?”Â
“Why did he have to deceive me? He could have just asked for money. Why?” The moment his name crossed her mind, painful memories flooded her thoughts, her heart tightening with each passing thought, the pain almost unbearable.Â
Calvert sighed deeply, ready to speak when the door opened. Jade entered, her face filled with worry. “Calvert, Vania’s struggling right now. Maybe we should leave it for now.”Â
Vania began to cry, her face flushing red as she gasped for breath, unable to get any words out.Â
“Please step outside,” Calvert said, his expression stern. “I know how to handle her situation. You don’t need to be here rightÂ
now.”Â
If Calvert stopped the conversation whenever Vania showed the slightest emotional reaction, they would never get to the truth. Jade’s apparent kindness in this moment felt meaningless to him.Â
Jade’s face turned slightly pale, her worry evident. “Calvert, I didn’t mean anything by it. I’m just concerned about Vania. The doctor said it might be best not to let her…”Â
“Didn’t I make myself clear?” Calvert’s tone was growing impatient. “You’re not needed here right now. I understand her condition, and I’ll handle it.”Â
Jade’s face shifted between pale and flushed as she turned to leave, but Vania’s voice stopped her. “Jade, don’t go! Why are you sending her away?”Â
“If Ash’s allowed to stay, why can’t Jade stay too? Calvert, how can you be so unfair? What has Jade done to deserve being sent away?”Â
Calvert’s expression darkened. “Vania, are you going to challenge everything I say?”Â
“Calvert-”Â
“That’s enough. Jade, leave now and stop causing trouble.” Calvert had tried to be patient, but he realized that his efforts to soothe Vania only enabled her.Â
Vania pouted, letting out a frustrated sigh as she turned her face away.Â
Seeing the situation, Jade understood that no amount of protesting from Vania would change anything. “Calvert, please don’t hold this against Vania. She didn’t mean it. I’ll leave now.”Â
Not daring to stay longer, Jade quickly exited, fearing that Calvert might say something more reproachful. She knew that if she stayed, it would only worsen the tension and make things more uncomfortable between them.Â
As soon as Jade left, Vania immediately deflated. She could tell Calvert was angry; from childhood, he had always been the one she feared most. She couldn’t find the courage to say a single word at that moment.Â
The sliding door provided good soundproofing, but unfortunately, when Jade closed it, she accidentally trapped the curtains. As a result, Ash overheard every word of their conversation.Â
The dynamic between these two siblings was unconventional. Earlier, Calvert had been trying to soothe things, but VaniaÂ
