“Go make Ash a cup of coffee,” Dorothy said, noticing Calvert’s lack of response. She slapped his arm lightly. She thought, ‘He has no sense at all!
Calvert’s expression remained indifferent, his frustration still visible. “Dorothy, she has her plans. There’s no need for you to worry.”
“What are you saying? I’ve always followed your lead. I don’t have any opinions of my own,” Ash said, clearly enjoying the drama.
With her point made, Dorothy shot a glare at Calvert. “Well? What are you waiting for?”
In the end, Calvert was practically forced to leave.
“Calvert’s always been like this, ever since he was a child–stubborn and often unwilling to listen,” Dorothy sighed. “He’s probably just worried about Vania today, and that’s why he’s in a bad mood.”
Ash didn’t pay much attention, knowing Calvert was angry with her. What she still didn’t understand was what she had done
wrong.
Dorothy let out a deep sigh. “I’m partly to blame for what happened with Vania. She’s so naive and impressionable. When someone tells her something, she’ll believe it without question.”
“Dorothy, we’ll get to the bottom of it,” Ash replied. “As for Vania, she’ll need time. We have to trust that she can work through this herself.”
“Also, don’t stress too much,” Ash added, noticing something. “Lately, have you been feeling short of breath, maybe a tightness in your chest?” Ash placed her hand gently over Dorothy’s wrist, her pulse weak and irregular.
Dorothy didn’t hide anything, nodding in acknowledgment. “I haven’t been resting well lately, but it’s nothing serious. Nothing to worry about.”
“Dorothy, heart problems aren’t something to take lightly,” Ash said firmly. “You need to make sure you’re getting enough sleep. It can seriously affect your health if you don’t.”
“Do you still remember the pressure points I showed you? You need to press them regularly, massage them often,” Ash said, gently rubbing the points with her fingers.
Dorothy closed her eyes as she sat on the couch, a warm, loving smile on her face. “Ash, I’m so lucky to have a granddaughter like you. I truly feel blessed.”
“When we first met, I worried there might be some distance between us–that I wouldn’t measure up. But now I see I was overthinking it. You’re so understanding and considerate”
Ash smiled softly, continuing her gentle movements. “Dorothy, why the sudden praise? Because you’re such a wonderful person, I get along with you so well
Dorothy’s eyes sparkled with a teasing glint “So, when will you and I become a real family? Ash, have you accepted Calvert yet? Is there something about him that finally meets your expectations?
The question came out of nowhere, catching Ash off guard.
For a moment, she was silent, unsure of what to say.

“Dorothy, I haven’t figured this out yet…” Ash didn’t want to lie to Dorothy. “I’m just not ready.”

Holding a cup of coffee, Calvert stood quietly behind them, overhearing the entire conversation. This answer didn’t surprise him. After all, Dorothy didn’t know that their relationship was strictly professional.
Ash thought, ‘This isn’t the answer I would generally give, but I hesitated when Dorothy asked. I couldn’t quite figure out what I was feeling.
“Go ahead and drink,” Calvert said, his tone carrying an unspoken heaviness. He set the coffee down before Ash. “After you’re done, I’ll take you home.”
“Are you in such a hurry to send me away?” Ash raised an eyebrow, sensing he was still upset, and decided to lighten the mood with a joke.
It was clear that Calvert didn’t find the joke amusing. “You think I’m trying to rush you out of here?”
Seeing his serious expression, Ash dropped the playful tone. “Just joking. There are plenty of empty rooms if I wanted to stay, but I have things to do. I’ll be away for a few days to visit my parents.”
Dorothy could feel the tension between them, sensing something wasn’t quite right. She wanted to say something, but worried that her age might make her say something that would upset them.
“Ash, it’s rare for you to come by. Why not stay a little longer? Calvert can take you back tomorrow morning,” Dorothy said after a brief silence, feeling she should say something.
Calvert glanced at Ash, who seemed slightly conflicted, then said with a hint of frustration. “Dorothy, don’t make things harder for her. She has other things to do. I’ll take her home.”
“Hey, Calvert!” Dorothy felt like Calvert was purposely going against her. He’d insist on going the other way whenever she wanted to go one way.
Ash reached out and casually pulled Calvert toward her. “Dorothy, he’s right. I have other things to care for, so I’ll return
now
‘Ash, wait a second. Let Calvert start the car. I need to talk to you for a moment, alright?” Dorothy insisted, keeping her hand on Ash.
Ash glanced at Calvert. His face was as neutral as ever, and he slightly nodded. “You stay here. I’ll wait outside. Ten minutes, then come out.”
‘Alright, Ash agreed.
After Calvert left, Dorothy suddenly pulled out a bracelet and handed it to Ash Ash wondered, ‘How did Dorothy pull out such a large bracelet, almost like it appeared out of nowhere?
‘I can already guess what’s coming next–this feels like something out of a typical CEO romance story.
Sure enough, Ash wasn’t wrong. Dorothy slowly began speaking, her voice full of sincerity as she gently took Ash’s hand “Ash, this bracelet was a gift from Calvert’s grandfather when I married”
“I’ve never shown it to anyone over the years. This bracelet means a lot to me, and I want to give it to you. Rather than just giving it to you, I’d say it’s more of a passing on of a legacy. I hope you can carry forward the happiness I’ve hast
“Though it might sound a bit boastful, I’ve been happy I feel like I’ve lived a fulfilling life. I hope you, Ash, can experience the same happiness.”
Ash thought, ‘I can’t help but feel there’s more to Dorothy’s words than meets the eye. I understand her affection for me, but

The way Dorothy suddenly brought this up felt almost like a final farewell. Ash had just checked her pulse, and while it wasn’t perfect, it didn’t seem alarming either.
Her expression shifted slightly, her brow furrowing as she looked at Dorothy. “Dorothy, is there something you’re hiding from us? Why are you suddenly saying all this?”
After Ash had done the massage, Dorothy seemed much more energized. She chuckled and shook her head. “Oh, you worry too much. I’ve wanted to give this to you for a long time, but I could never find the right moment.”
“Today may not be ideal either, but everything just fell into place, so I decided to give it to you now,” Dorothy explained with a smile.
