Shane was saved by the doorbell. He let out a long sigh of relief, finally free from answering the dreadful questions. 

“I’ll get the door.” Shane felt that he was saved. But his expression slightly changed as he opened the door. It was Jade! 

Shane maintained a standard smile and greeted her respectfully. “Ms. Jade, you’re here.” 

The deliberate use of “Ms. Jade” made Jade slightly uncomfortable. After all, she was once “Ms. Turner, the one and only, not a replacement for anyone. But now everything had changed. She had become an accessory to Ash, no longer the sole treasure of the Turner family. 

“I’ve brought snacks for everyone outside. Please arrange for someone to distribute them.” Jade wore a perfect smile. “Is Calvert busy at the moment? Normally, Shane would have stopped Jade. 

But today was an exception. If he stopped her. he would be in serious trouble, so he didn’t. “Mr. Snider is inside.” Compared to Calvert’s strange question, he chose to let Jade in 

A flicker of surprise flashed across Jade’s eyes. “Okay, I’ll go in first. I have something urgent to discuss with Calvert. Please take care of the snacks outside.” 

“Calvert, I hope I’m not interrupting your work by coming here so suddenly. Despite her words, Jade pulled over a chair and sat down opposite him. 

Clearly preoccupied, Calvert mumbled, “What’s the matter?” 

“I wanted to talk to you about Vania. She’s been doing much better lately, so you and Grandma don’t need to worry too much. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to have Vania join me on set. That way, I can spend time with her every day.” 

His gaze shifted to her. “Vania is an adult now. This incident was a huge blow to her, but there’s no need for her to join you 

on set.” 

‘Calvert, please don’t get me wrong. I have my reasons. Vania is still quite dependent on me right now. I thought that being on set with me might help distract her. Maybe, in time, she’ll start to feel better.” 

Calvert still refused. “You won’t be able to be with her all the time on set. It’s a busy environment with a lot of people. What If something happens? Can you handle it?” 

She lowered her head, her gaze downcast. “Maybe I haven’t thought this through completely, but… I really just want Vania to get better soon. 

I… I just feel so sorry for her. She’s in a better place now, but she still seems listless and down. It’s a world of difference from how she used to be. Calvert, if she keeps feeling down like this, it’ll only get worse.” 

Calvert’s brow furrowed slightly. “Have you talked to her about this?” 

ade nodded and then shook her head. “No, before I said I was going to end my vacation and go back to the group. After she heard it, she expressed her desire to go with me. But I didn’t discuss it with you at that time, and I didn’t dare to make my own decision, so I didn’t agree directly with her at that time. I just wanted to ask you.” Jade said very sincerely. 

Calvert was obviously shaken. He didn’t want to interfere in Vania’s affairs at this juncture. Although Vania was naive, she was an adult after all. As an adult, she had the right to choose. 

Let her talk to me about this. Anything else?” Calvert’s words meant that he was giving her an order to leave.

Jade bit her lower lip. “Calvert. I… No more. I originally wanted to tell you about this on my phone, but I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to explain it clearly in a few words, so I just happened to come here today. I happen to know that your media company has been in a lot of trouble recently. Is there anything I can do to help? I have a few friends who are celebrities and can help.” 

Calvert shook his head, obviously not wanting to have too much contact with Jade. “This is my business.”

“You did nothing wrong. You don’t need to apologize to me.” Then he paused and said coldly, “You can go.” 

Jade clutched her dress, her expression innocent. She walked to the door, reluctant to leave. “Calvert, I didn’t mean anything by it. Don’t overthink it. I’ll be going now.” With that, she left. 

“So, how did it go? Did you have a good talk?” Klein asked, seated in the minivan. He handed her a coffee he had just bought as she got in. “Jade, this is a crucial time. You have to seize the opportunity.” 

Jade responded absentmindedly and took a sip of the coffee, frowning. “Why is it so bitter?” 

Klein glanced at her. “Bitter? You never take sugar. I even added half a packet for you today. Are you in a bad mood?” 

She leaned back, exhausted. “I guess so. I’m feeling down, so even sweet things taste bitter today. Klein, do you think unrequited love means bearing all the pain?” 

“Jade, what’s so good about him? Is he really that good to you? Did he save your life or something?” Klein asked half–jokingly. 

Jade forced a laugh. “Sometimes, there’s no clear explanation for unrequited love. I don’t know why exactly. He’s special even if he does nothing but stand there. Maybe people are just cheap. The more unattainable something is, the more they want it.” Jade smiled bitterly. 

Klein chuckled softly. “So, I guess you’re love–struck? Because you were together. Now you’re apart, it’s hard to forget about him? It doesn’t matter. Everyone has their own characteristics. I don’t think there is anything wrong with you.” 

If before, Jade might have simply liked Calvert, but now it was different. She was competing with Ash, as if they were comparing who would be happy in the end and who would be the real winner. 

“Jade, you have to live for yourself. If you always care so much about him, your achievements will stop there. But according to your current abilities, your achievements are far more than that, Jade. You have to think about what is the most important thing to you.” 

Klein tirelessly told Jade time and time again, “You really have to think about yourself. As for men, there are too many men in the world. He is not the only one.” 

“Klein, do we have to keep discussing this issue? It’s always a waste of time. It’s unnecessary” Jade was obsessed with Calvert, deep in her bones. So it was meaningless to continue the discussion.
