‘Calvert, well… Do you remember the project about medical devices? It was abruptly suspended not long ago, and I don’t know why. Could you please help me find the reason?” Dexter pleaded. 

The project Dexter had mentioned was a collaboration between the Turner family and the Snider family, and Dexter had brazenly invoked Josh’s help. Out of gratitude, Josh gave part of that project to Dexter. 

The job was returned to the Turner family after Dexter’s company had gone broke. However, Dexter mistook Ash for the troublemaker who deliberately ruined the cooperation 

Wearing a cold expression of contempt. Calvert asked. “What project? Didn’t the Moreno family declare bankruptcy?”

‘Don’t threaten her with Sofia,” Calvert ordered. He would teach Dexter a good lesson if the latter used Sofia again. 

“They are my mom and my daughter, so how can I be bad to them? You misunderstood me. Jewel is too serious sometimes…” Dexter argued. 

Furrowing his eyebrows, Calvert said, “You don’t have to explain to me. Just leave if you have nothing else to say.” 

‘Calvert, what a misunderstanding! I came to keep my mom company. She will be sad if I leave now. Do you want to see her sad face?” Dexter lied. 

Calvert’s eyes coldly swept over Dexter. ‘Some of your real estates were transferred to others. Do you want me to remind the inspectors of that?” 

How absurd that a small fry like Dexter tried to threaten Calvert! 

‘Calvert, come on, I didn’t threaten you. It was just a small talk.” Dexter already broke into a cold sweat. He didn’t know that Calvert was clear of his little tricks. 

With impatience, Calvert said, “I am not interested in any talks with you.” 

“What are you talking about with Calvert?” Sofia managed to convince Ash to repack the wound. She didn’t walk to the living room till Riley got his job done. 

She slowly walked up to the two men and ordered, “Dexter, watch your mouth, and keep what shouldn’t cross your lips to yourself.” 

Dexter responded meekly, “Mom, you know me. I am not one for words. You all got me wrong, and Jewel is unhappy with me. I will apologize to Jewel for my dereliction of duty as her father when the time is ripe. 

“She suffered a lot, but I was left with no choice. We didn’t do well financially. I couldn’t have brought my children up if I

spent time on them.” With tears, Dexter added, “I am such a good–for–nothing.”

Self–depreciation worked best with Sofia. Saddened, she quickly forgave Dexter and said, “I know it wasn’t easy for you. Jewel is reasonable. Have a good talk with her, and she will understand. 

“Enough of that. From now on, we will lead a happy life together. Nothing is more important than us being together, safe and healthy.” 

Calvert listened quietly. He now understood that Ash’s recent emotional swings resulted from Sofia. For the sake of Sofia, Ash had to bite the bullet. 

You saw me, didn’t you?” Ash asked. She stood on the balcony with her arm bandaged. Her sleeveless dress made her look thinner than before. 

Before Calvert opened his mouth, Ash could tell that the comer was him. The reason was that Calvert had his unique scent. 

Ash could smell that scent whenever Calvert approached her. She didn’t know whether the others felt the same. 

Calvert knew what Ash was talking about. He silently stopped behind her and didn’t answer her question. Following her gaze. he saw the river. What a good view! This was a good apartment in a good location though it was small. 

Ash rested one arm on the railing. Right then, the gentle breeze blew her hair. “Why are you silent? Is it a denial?” she bushed.
