“Hayden, you gotta be careful out there, man.”

Chase always had a gut feeling about things, and Hayden’s excitement was making him uneasy. He couldn’t keep quiet.

Hayden, aside from Emily, was pretty much the black sheep of the family. He was desperate for their approval.

He had just gotten some praise.

And now Chase was raining on his parade.

Hayden was irritated. “Chase, what’s your deal? I’ve busted my butt to earn this money, and I can help you out with it. Instead of being happy for me, you’re just throwing shade. If you can’t say anything nice, just zip it.”

Bianca jumped in, “Chase, even if you’re mad at me, don’t take it out on Hayden. He’s about to leave; you should be saying something supportive. If you’re really upset, aim it at me. I’ll take the heat for Hayden.”

“I wasn’t trying to—”

“No excuses! Just stop talking. You’re not helping anyone. I’m going upstairs to pack and get ready.”

Hayden cut Chase off and stormed upstairs, fuming.

Chase was left facing disapproval from Eli and Bianca.

He was speechless.

He meant well, just giving a heads–up, but it got twisted. How did it turn into him being upset and taking it out on Hayden?

Suddenly, Chase’s mind flashed to Emily, who often ended up speechless after Bianca’s comments.

He started to get a better understanding of Emily’s situation.

Bianca seemed sweet and harmless, but her words often led to misunderstandings.

Chase felt guilty and troubled.

What had he been doing all these years? He was now regretting his coldness towards Emily, even to the point of helping Bianca bully her.

Thinking about how the mess of his latest song was also caused by Bianca, Chase felt even more down.

But he was so used to spoiling Bianca that he couldn’t stand to see her looking weak and upset. He couldn’t just go to her room and confront her, or even ask if she had targeted Emily.

Everyone in the family spoiled Bianca too much, and Chase couldn’t find anyone to talk to about his frustrations.

He pulled out his phone, thought for a moment, and dialed Aurora’s number.

Chapter 166

Aurora was feeling better than ever.

Her illness was totally under control, and with continued medication, she’d soon be fully recovered.

She was still grateful to Emily.

Just then, she saw Chase’s call and frowned, hesitating before answering.

“Chase, what’s up?”

Since Chase had been concerned about her illness, she couldn’t be too cold towards him.

So Chase didn’t notice any change in Aurora’s attitude.

“Aurora, how’s your health now? Is Emily’s medicine really working? If not, don’t worry, I can still find a way to help you!”

“No need!” Aurora cut him off firmly. “I’m feeling much better now. Emily’s medicine is very effective. I should be fully recovered soon. You shouldn’t always doubt her first. After all, she’s your sister, right? Besides, she hasn’t done anything unforgivable. You shouldn’t treat her so unfairly!”

Aurora saw things clearly from the outside.

When Bianca had conspired with outsiders to frame Emily, Chase hadn’t even thought to help her, which had made Aurora somewhat unhappy with him.

A person who couldn’t distinguish right from wrong wouldn’t achieve much in the future.

Chase was used to doubting Emily instinctively.

Aurora’s words hit Chase hard, making him realize the problem. He decided to drop the subject.

But he was too proud to apologize, even though he knew he was wrong.

Instead, he started venting about his frustrations, including the misunderstandings with his family.

“I didn’t expect Bianca to take credit for Emily’s work. She made a mistake, and all she needs to do is apologize. Why won’t she do it? She’s so sweet, but she keeps dragging it out. I spoil her so much, she shouldn’t keep delaying, even for my sake!”

These were things he couldn’t talk to anyone else about, but now he found someone to talk to, and once he started, he couldn’t stop.

Aurora listened patiently.

After a brief silence, she spoke, “You say Bianca is wrong, but are you really blameless? Have you ever thought that Emily is the most innocent in all this? Bianca should apologize, but what about you?”

“Me?” Chase was puzzled. “What did I do? As long as Bianca apologizes and the world sees Emily’s talent, it’ll be her glory!”

Aurora was thoroughly disappointed by this response.

She thought for a moment before saying, “If Emily has talent, she can give her songs to any star and achieve the same glory. It doesn’t have to be you.”

“But I’m her brother!” Chase said, self–righteously.

Aurora almost rolled her eyes. “You haven’t acknowledged her as your sister, but now you claim to be her brother. You’re shameless!”

Chase was stunned by Aurora’s rebuke.

He had always seen Aurora as the epitome of gentleness, and he liked her for her gentle nature.

Aurora continued, “We don’t need to stay in touch anymore. I think our personalities are not compatible.”

With that, she hung up the phone.

Hearing the busy signal, Chase realized what Aurora had just said.

When he tried to call back, he was met with the sound of being blocked.

Already frustrated by his career setbacks, Chase now faced romantic disappointment, which made him extremely upset.

“I went through so much trouble for you, finding doctors and everything, and now, when I’m at a low point in my career, you dare treat me like this? You bitch, you bitch!”

Chase’s true nature was revealed in his rage.

The Johnson family members were inherently selfish, and even if they realized their mistakes, it was only a fleeting moment of conscience.

He cursed with a contorted face.

If his fans saw him like this, they would probably all abandon him.

After venting, Chase thought angrily, “Once I clear my name of plagiarism, with Hayden’s help, my career will soar. Aurora, you’ll regret it then. I’ll watch you beg me!”
