Chapter 199
“It’s not me. I’m fine. I went to the hospital to see a patient.”
Emily felt a warm glow in her heart.
So this is what it feels like to be cared for.
She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should tell Daniel about Mason’s situation.
Daniel knew her quite well by now.
Or perhaps, they had already developed a mutual understanding.
So, he immediately sensed that she had something to say, and it might be related to him.
“If you have something to say, just say it. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine!”
Looking into Daniel’s deep and sincere eyes, Emily decided to tell him.

“As a doctor, there are some things I can’t say directly. I can only tell you that if you have time, you might want to pay more attention to
your family.”
Emily recalled Daniel mentioning that there was a significant age gap between him and his older brother.
His biological mother had been young when she had him, but she suffered severe blood loss during childbirth. Although she was saved,
her health was compromised, and she passed away a few years later.
Daniel had been doted on by Mason, but being young, he had faced numerous schemes against him.
Mason was the only family member Daniel truly acknowledged.
Veda was his sister, and the family spoiled her. Daniel, being the elder, would let things slide more often.
This led Veda to believe that Daniel’s cold demeanor was just his nature, but since he never blamed her, she felt it was a form of affection.
Emily once had a run–in with Veda, so she knew Emily wasn’t referring to Veda when she mentioned family.
Daniel’s first thought was that Emily was talking about Mason.
“Okay, thanks for the heads–up.”
Daniel’s face darkened. Since Emily didn’t want to elaborate, it was likely due to her professional ethics and patient confidentiality.

So, the person she visited at the hospital today was probably Mason.
“No problem. By the way, did you come to see me for something?”
Could it be just out of concern?
“I originally planned to see Cloudy and Biscuit, but I’ll do it another day!” Daniel wasn’t truly cold–hearted; he did care.
“Alright, go ahead!”
Emily sensed his hidden emotions and nodded understandingly.
Daniel nodded in farewell and quickly walked away.
Emily watched his slightly hurried steps.
She knew that she and Daniel might be similar in some ways–appearing distant and indifferent, but actually longing for family
connections.
He had carried too much on his shoulders since childhood, which was unfortunate.
Mason, though strict, genuinely cared for Daniel, which made him luckier than she was in that regard.
Emily turned her gaze away and slowly walked home.
Her phone rang at the right moment.
It was Knox calling.
Emily felt a bit guilty, realizing she owed him many meals.
In both her previous and current lives, she seemed always to owe him and never repay him.
“Knox, what made you think of me?”
Emily teased lightly.
“Don’t play dumb. You haven’t forgotten how many meals you owe me, have you?”
Knox’s tone was a mix of helplessness and affection.
Emily knew he wasn’t really angry. ‘I’ll treat you right away. You name the time and place.”
“Is there anything you’d like to eat?”

Knox respectfully asked her first.

Emily wasn’t picky about food.
Y
In her past life, she was always busy with the Johnson family’s affairs and never had the chance to enjoy good food. She honestly couldn’t
answer his question.
“Since I’m treating, you should choose. Besides, I don’t know which places are good, so you might as well recommend one.”
“Alright, a friend recently recommended a restaurant with great food. I’ll send you the address. By the way, I heard Hayden got tricked
into going abroad, and the kidnappers are asking for a hundred million dollars in ransom. Need any help?”
Knox had been saved by Emily before and had looked into her background. He knew she was connected to the Johnson family.
Moreover, she had highly valued the Johnson family before her rebirth, which he was aware of.
Although Emily seemed to have changed recently, family ties aren’t easily severed, so he asked out of concern.
“No need for now, but thank you!”
Emily sincerely thanked him.
Knox felt a pang of sadness for her, though he didn’t know why.
“If you need anything, just ask. You owe me a lot anyway; one more favor won’t hurt.”
“Alright!”
Emily didn’t hesitate this time. “If I need help, I won’t hold back!”
After they hung up, Emily went to her underground lab to work on a new medication for an hour before washing up and going to bed.
Knox, after finalizing the time and place and sending the details to Emily, immediately called his assistant to reserve a table.
To avoid making it too formal, he didn’t book the entire place.
This way, Emily wouldn’t feel pressured or avoid dining with him in the future.
Not long after the reservation was made, Xavier got wind of it and informed Bianca.
Bianca hadn’t expected an opportunity so soon, but it was perfect timing. Chase had given her only two days, and she needed to meet
Knox tomorrow, or the Johnson family would have to give Emily twenty percent of the shares.
“Thank you. I’ll verify your information tomorrow. Don’t worry, you’ll get your money.”

Bianca was saying this when there was a knock on her door.
She quickly ended the call with Xavier.
“Who is it?”
Bianca frowned.
At this hour, who could it be?
She had been discharged from the hospital but was still weak, needing rest. She had gone to bed early after dinner.
“Bianca, it’s me,
Chase!”
Chase’s voice sounded tired from outside the door.

Bianca’s eyes flashed with annoyance, but her voice remained gentle. “Chase, is it something important? If not, can we talk another day? I
just got out of the hospital, and I’m still very tired. I need to rest.”
She had a feeling that whatever Chase wanted to discuss wouldn’t be good.
She could sense his cold and distant attitude towards her, but she didn’t care and pretended not to notice.
Chase’s eyes darkened. “It’ll only take a few minutes. I won’t take up much of your time.”
His insistence left Bianca with no choice but to relent.
“Alright, come in, Chase.”
Bianca’s voice sounded like she was struggling to speak.
Chase entered the room.
Bianca leaned weakly against the headboard, watching him approach.
“What do you want to say, Chase?” Bianca asked.
“Bianca, has the result of your design competition come out yet? Additionally, negative rumors about you are still circulating online. Can you guarantee that you’ll win first place?”
Chase frowned, bombarding her with questions.
Bianca’s suspicions were confirmed.

He was here because of the plagiarism issue, proving his selfishness.
:
“Chase, I’m really not feeling well. If you have something to say, just say it directly.”
“What I mean is, you can’t be sure you’ll win, and there are already negative rumors about you. Why not just admit your mistake and
apologize to Emily? I can’t hold off any longer, and they’ve only given me three days.”
