‘Hey, can you tell me where you’re headed and what’s going on? If you want me to share my info, you gotta have time for it, right? When are you coming 

home? 

Knox felt a bit bummed after getting turned down. 

But he bounced back quickly and asked again. 

Emily still hadn’t replied. 

Daniel, however, chimed in from the side, ‘Emily, we’re here! I’ve got everything ready for you, clothes for a couple of weeks or even more. You won’t be 

missing anything.” 

He was really talking to Knox on the other end of the phone. 

Emily opened her mouth but didn’t say anything. She understood Daniel’s point without needing him to explain. 

Before she could say anything else, the car stopped, and Daniel got out to open the door for her. 

Just then, the door of the Smith Villa opened, and the Smith family members rushed out to greet them, having heard the car. 

Emily quickly told Knox, “I’ll fill you in when I get back. I’m a bit busy right now, talk later!” 

She hung up the phone. 

With Daniel waiting, she placed her hand in his, and he helped her out of the car. 

“Daniel, you’re finally back! Look who’s here!” 

Veda came running out, dragging Zoey along. 

Because Daniel’s tall frame blocked Emily as she got out, Veda didn’t notice her at first. 

She called out and pulled Zoey in front of Daniel, trying to push Zoey closer to him to create an opportunity for them to get close. 

But then she froze, her face full of shock, “What are you doing here?” 

Veda’s shock quickly turned to anger as she glared at Emily, “You shouldn’t be here. Maybe Grandpa got sick because of you!” 

‘Shut up, Veda. Is this how you were raised?” Daniel scolded, shielding Emily. 

Veda immediately looked a bit hurt. 

Her resentment towards Emily grew even stronger. 

*Daniel, I’m not wrong. Grandpa clearly doesn’t like Emily. Now that he’s home recovering, if you want him to get better, you shouldn’t bring Emily here to 

upset him.” 

Veda retorted, feeling wronged.

Zoey, seeing Emily, barely contained her jealousy.

she doesn’t know that Daniel came back for his sick grandfather!” 

That was a thinly veiled insult. 

Daniel was about to reprimand her again. 

Emily tugged on his arm. 

Her soft hand touched his skin, and the rare contact sent a shiver through him, making him pause. 

He looked at Emily. 

She shook her head at him. 

Daniel understood that she wanted to speak. 

He knew he wouldn’t let her be mistreated with him around, so he let her handle it. 

Their interaction didn’t go unnoticed by Zoey, who felt a pang of jealousy. 

Zoey broke the silence, “So, you must be Emily, Ms. Johnson. I’ve heard about the issues between you and Veda. She’s just really protective of Daniel and 

thinks not everyone is good enough for him. You won’t hold it against her, right?” 

This made it seem like Emily would be petty if she did hold a grudge. 

Emily smiled at her, “And you are?” 

Zoey had met Emily before. She didn’t believe Emily could have forgotten her. It was clearly intentional, 

Zoey kept her composure and smiled, ‘I’m Zoey, from the King family. The King family and the Smith family have been friends for generations. Daniel and I practically grew up together, and Mason watched me grow up, too. Naturally, I want him to get better. So, Ms. Johnson, I’m sorry if this seems harsh, but could you leave for today?” 

Emily chuckled, “No, I can’t.” 

“What gives you the right? You…” 

‘Veda!’ Zoey quickly interrupted, not wanting Veda to anger Daniel further, who was already showing signs of displeasure. 

She tried to smooth things over, ‘Ms. Johnson, why not? Don’t you care about Mason’s health? Veda was just impulsive, but it was all for Mason.”

Emily smiled serenely, ‘How do you know that Mr. Smith disliked me last time and will feel the same this time?” 

Zoey’s face darkened. She looked at Daniel, trying to explain.

Daniel gave Zoey a cold look. 

Emily smiled, unaffected, and took Daniel’s arm, “Daniel, since Ms. King insists, let’s go see Mason.” 

She did it on purpose. Zoey’s eyes were glued to Daniel, clearly in love with him. Emily getting close to Daniel was the biggest blow to Zoey. 

Daniel’s heart raced when she took his arm. Even knowing she did it to spite Zoey, he enjoyed it and even patted her hand, making it seem natural and close. 

‘Let’s go.” 

Daniel spoke in a low voice. They ignored Zoey and Veda and walked into the house together.
