Chapter 32

“Do you know me?”

Emily’s sudden question made the newcomer look puzzled.

“No, I don’t. I thought you were someone else!”

Emily quickly corrected herself.

Charles wasn’t too surprised. In fact, the corner of his mouth curled up in a barely noticeable sneer.

A man with his background and looks had plenty of women wanting to know him.

All sorts of tricks!

He was too lazy to give any attention to such a cliché pick-up line.

Emily noticed Charles’s disdainful glance.

She knew he misunderstood, but didn’t bother to explain, awkwardly touching her nose.”

She wasn’t wearing her mask now, and she wasn’t in her doctor persona, so her earlier words did seem abrupt.

Her eyes swept over the prescription Charles handed over, immediately meeting his sharp gaze.

Who is this woman?’

‘Could she be related to the woman Daniel dealt with? Is she here to gather information?’

“Dr. Ryan, please take a closer look at this in private, Charles reminded, his eyes warily fixed on Emily.

Floyd, who was from Emerald City and had once examined Daniel, recognized the prescription as Daniel’s as soon as Charles handed it to him.

He had heard someone could treat Daniel and was curious about the prescription.

Floyd quickly took the prescription to examine it, not avoiding Emily, and didn’t catch Charles’s hint.

“Brilliant! This prescription is very beneficial for the patient’s condition. If I’m not mistaken, is there something else to assist it?”

Floyd’s eyes lit up at the sight of a good prescription.

Only such a pure-hearted doctor could reach a certain level of expertise.

Charles felt relieved hearing Floyd’s words. It seemed the prescription could indeed treat Daniel.

“Yes, but the person said it requires acupuncture sessions and some rare herbs. Besides asking you to check the prescription, I also wanted to see if you have those herbs.”

Charles and his people always had backup plans.

Although Emily had said she could help find the herbs, he still had others looking, just in case.

It seemed the required herbs were quite rare.

Floyd asked for the names of the herbs, but wasn’t sure if he had them on hand.

“I’m missing two of the herbs you mentioned. You must have asked around; these two are hard to find,” Floyd said honestly.

He thought for a moment and handed the prescription to Emily.

He didn’t even give Charles a chance to react.

“Emily, can you deduce the patient’s condition from the prescription and see if the two herbs can be substituted?’

Floyd was doing this for Daniel’s sake.

Emily took the prescription.

Seeing the handwriting, she was speechless.

So it was her prescription, and Charles didn’t trust it.

Emily looked at Charles with a half-smile, “If you don’t trust it, don’t treat him. He only has three months left to live anyway!”

For a moment, her eyes seemed to overlap with those of the masked doctor.

Even her words were so infuriating.

But that doctor was truly skilled.

This girl in front of him looked barely of age. She might not even understand the prescription, yet she dared to speak so boldly.

Floyd, being old, had developed a soft spot. How could he show the prescription to such a little girl?

Moreover, criticizing him was one thing, but saying such things about Daniel was unacceptable!

Charles’s face turned cold as he snatched the prescription from Emily’s hand. “You have no skills and dare to speak so boldly. This prescription was written by a very skilled doctor, which is beyond your understanding. Dr. Ryan, this is inappropriate!”

His last sentence was directed at Floyd, his face showing displeasure.

If it weren’t for the respect he had for Floyd, his tone would have been harsher.

Floyd felt a bit embarrassed.

He had been thinking of Daniel’s well-being, but the prescription indeed shouldn’t have been…

“Sorry, I was out of line,” Floyd apologized directly, not being a stubborn old man.

Charles didn’t hold a grudge.

Since the prescription was fine, he bid farewell, but not before asking Floyd to keep an eye out for the two herbs.

Of course, before leaving, he didn’t forget to give Emily a hard glare.

Back home, Charles couldn’t help but complain to Daniel.

‘You wouldn’t believe how rude that woman was. She even cursed you. If it were the old me, I would have taught her a lesson!”

Charles huffed.

His temper had mellowed, and this wasn’t Emerald City.

He was also trying to accumulate good karma for Daniel, hoping he would recover soon.

Daniel raised an eyebrow, waiting for Charles to finish his rant, then spoke calmly, “So, you’re arguing with a barely adult girl.”

Mentioning the girl, Emily’s face flashed in his mind.

“Does that girl know Floyd?”

For Floyd to show her the prescription, her medical skills must be decent. Could it be a coincidence?

Charles slapped his forehead, “I was so mad I forgot to ask her name. Floyd called her Emily. But it doesn’t matter. I suspect she’s with the woman you dealt with last time, so I had someone follow her immediately!”

‘Call them off!”

Daniel’s voice suddenly rose, brooking no argument.

“What?” Charles didn’t understand.

Daniel rubbed his temples, feeling a bit helpless.

He already owed her once, and now, by coincidence, he met her again.

Daniel’s eyes were deep and unreadable. “Call your people off. Don’t provoke her again, and show respect if you see her.”

Charles finally understood.

He looked at Daniel suspiciously, even with a hint of surprise, ‘You know that woman? Who is she? It’s the first time I’ve seen you care about a girl. Though she’s a bit skinny, she’s indeed beautiful. She’ll be a real beauty when she grows up.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he met Daniel’s cold gaze.

He felt a chill.

Charles was even more surprised.

What kind of skills did Emily have to make Daniel care so much?

He quickly made a zipping motion with his mouth, “I won’t mention it again!”

Daniel finally withdrew his gaze.

He looked at the time and said in a deep voice, “You should go.”

Charles was speechless.

It was the first time Daniel had directly asked him to leave.

But facing Daniel’s gaze, he had no choice but to comply.

Daniel didn’t explain.

Emily had a dog at home now and hadn’t hired a housekeeper yet. She was probably coming back around this time.

Chapter 32

Since she had just argued with Charles, he didn’t want them to run into each other.

It wouldn’t be good if he got caught in the crossfire.

“Mr. Smith, here’s the dog you asked for,” the butler said, bringing in a young Border Collie.

The Border Collie, usually smart and obedient, trembled as soon as it reached Daniel’s feet, perhaps intimidated by his strong presence.

The butler felt a bit awkward, “Maybe the dog isn’t used to it yet. It’ll get better as it grows.”

Daniel’s expression remained indifferent.

“Okay,” he said, showing no sign of liking the dog.

But then he picked up a dog care manual and started reading.

The butler was speechless.

Why did he feel a bit scared?

This poisoning seemed to have affected Daniel’s mind.
