Chapter 39

Emily wasn’t swayed by James.

She also didn’t know that Daniel had quietly taken care of some trouble for her.

After finishing her paperwork, she didn’t forget her main task.

She dialed a long-forgotten number.

The last time she contacted him was actually in her previous life.

Back then, she had begged him for help to save Hayden, who was being sold overseas.

Because of her medical skills, she had helped him before, but due to his complex and dangerous background, she avoided getting involved with him unless absolutely necessary.

But this man, when she was in danger abroad and Hayden had abandoned her to save himself, risked his life to rescue her.

Although she didn’t blame Hayden-she had told him to run, and in his tortured state, he would have only been a burden if he stayed-she was still grateful to Knox Green, the true head of the Green family, for his timely help.

“Mr. Green, it has been a long time.”

Emily didn’t seek out Daniel; she felt his promise was too significant to use lightly.

Knox’s voice was cheerful and clear, “Emily, I owe you, not the other way around. I thought you’d never speak to me again in this lifetime!”

The familiar words and voice pulled Emily back to her past life.

She felt a bit guilty towards him.

For her, he had a long scar on his handsome face.

He had even laughed at the time, “This is a badge of honor. Whenever you see this scar, remember you owe me!”

“Why call and not speak? Did I scare you?” Knox’s voice was playful, but there was a hint of concern.

“No, I told you, you owe me. I’m calling to collect. I need your help to investigate someone named Rhett Moore. I heard he recently got into debt with loan sharks. I want to know how much he owes, how he got into debt, and who he’s been in contact with lately.”

Emily didn’t hold back, stating her request directly.

“This is a small matter. I’ll arrange it. Since you’re asking for my help, you must not be afraid of me anymore. How about we have dinner together?”

Emily just wanted to get this favor done and clear their debt, not wanting him to fall into the same troubles as in her past life.

She was about to refuse.

But Knox continued, “Emily, if you don’t agree, I won’t help, and you’ll still owe me!”

His tone was playful.

Emily thought for a moment, “Fine, you arrange it. Just let me know in advance; I’m quite busy.”

Knox’s face, previously hidden in the shadows, brightened with joy. “Great, I’ll be in touch!”

Chapter 39

He was referring to both the investigation and their dinner plan.

Emily hung up, took a shower, and fell asleep.

She slept soundly.

Now, James’s news hardly affected her mood.

The next morning

When she got up, Violette had already prepared breakfast.

“Violette, I need to go to school later, Don’t go back to Rhett’s place for now. Call Atticus and invite them to stay here for a couple of days. I’ll handle this matter soon, okay?

Emily gave instructions to Violette after breakfast, before leaving the villa.

“Okay! Violette met Emily’s gaze.

Despite her young and slender face, she exuded the same aura that Daniel had yesterday.

Violette instinctively agreed.

Satisfied, Emily headed to school.

She went straight to the professor she wanted to see about switching to the physics department.

Professor Kurt Lowe was the top professor in the physics department.

He naturally refused.

Though he admired her courage to approach him directly, courage alone wasn’t enough.

“No way. You’re a design major. What a joke, thinking you can switch to physics?” Kurt thought Emily was out of her mind.

Emily had chosen design because of Bianca. Her family wanted her to look after Bianca, who was in poor health, and she had agreed to please them.

“Mr. Lowe, I’m not joking.”

“You say you’re not, but you’re an art major wanting to switch to physics after a year. You wouldn’t keep up with the pace. You don’t understand, and I don’t blame you. Go back to where you came from!” Kurt waved her off, surprisingly without losing his temper.

Everyone knew he had a bad temper, especially about professional matters.

Emily didn’t leave in shame. She took out her recent research proposal and a paper she had published in her past life, placing them in front of Kurt. “What about these? Would you consider accepting me then?”

She hadn’t even conducted experiments for the paper; she knew the data and theories were valid from her past life.

Kurt initially didn’t take it seriously, planning to criticize her and make her give up.

But as he read, he sat up straight, eyes wide, repeatedly tapping the table. “Good, very good. Why didn’t I think of this? With a mind like yours, why did you choose that major? What a waste of a year. But it’s not too late…”

Kurt’s praise flowed freely.

The transfer was settled.

Emily had approached Kurt for this reason. He held many patents, and the school valued him. If he approved the transfer, the paperwork would be a breeze.

Sure enough, Kurt didn’t need her to say more. He rushed to the principal’s office, ‘I’ll get your transfer done immediately. We’ll start your research right away…

Kurt hurried off.

Emily, left in the empty office, decided to visit her current advisor.

On her way, many people gave her strange looks.

She overheard whispers.

“She hasn’t been to school for days. I thought she wouldn’t dare come back. Why is she here?”

“Is the stuff on the forum true? The school hasn’t said anything about it?”

Emily had expected this. The school hadn’t addressed the rumors, but she remained unaffected and went straight to her advisor.

“Ms. Chambers, what is the school planning to do about the rumors on the forum?”

Emily got straight to the point.

Her advisor, Lavinia Chambers, was a middle-aged woman.

Recently, she had been in a bad mood due to family business issues..

Emily’s question irritated her further.

She responded coldly, “This has caused a lot of trouble. You should reflect on why, even without evidence, you were accused. To minimize the impact, we’re handling it quietly. You’d better behave.”

Emily frowned, “I did nothing wrong. You haven’t investigated, so why say that? I want you to find out who framed me. If you don’t, I’ll handle it myself, my

way!”

“Are you threatening me?” Lavinia’s face turned cold, glaring at Emily.
