Chapter 40
That’s kinda harsh, don’t you think? A teacher’s supposed to look out for their students, right?” Emily said with a smile, locking eyes with Lavinia.
Lavinia felt a lump in her throat, a flash of humiliation crossing her face. She thought Emily was trying to provoke her. Despite Emily being part of the Johnson family, she wasn’t particularly favored, and Lavinia had no intention of coddling her.
“Yeah, protecting students is part of my job, but only if they deserve it. The stuff people are saying about you online is pretty clear. I haven’t held it against you, yet you dare to challenge me? Do you think I’m a pushover?” Lavinia sneered.
These comments had been confirmed by Bianca herself, so they couldn’t be false. If it weren’t for Bianca constantly defending and explaining on Emily’s behalf, Emily would have been reported by other students and punished by the school long ago.
Emily’s smile faded, her demeanor turning cold and firm. She raised her eyes slightly and said in a chilly tone, “Ms. Chambers, what do you mean by undeniable? Where’s the evidence? If you can provide evidence, I’ll accept any punishment, even expulsion. But…*
She stepped closer to Lavinia, her powerful presence causing Lavinia to step back instinctively.
“Do you have evidence? If not, don’t make baseless accusations. As a teacher, you should set a better example.”
Lavinia backed into the table behind her, realizing she had been intimidated by a student. Her face darkened. “Even without evidence, it’s still your fault. Bianca begged everyone not to hold it against you, which indirectly admits you did it. Your own family acknowledged it; what more evidence do you need?”
Lavinia’s disdain was evident. Emily had been too naive before, unable to play the victim or explain herself, leading to misunderstandings and everyone believing Bianca’s words.
Emily, tired of arguing with someone biased against her, directly presented photos and a USB drive as evidence, placing them in front of Lavinia.
“But I have evidence proving my innocence! These are the proofs I’ve collected. If you still insist on your views despite the evidence, then I must say, a teacher like you is misleading students and should quit teaching.”
“You!” Lavinia’s face turned ugly with anger. She grabbed the photos and quickly flipped through them, then inserted the USB drive into her computer to check the contents. After reviewing them, a look of surprise flashed in her eyes. She hadn’t expected Emily to be so innocent.
However, Lavinia’s perception of Emily didn’t improve due to her attitude. She said indifferently, “Since you have evidence, why didn’t you present it earlier? I’ve seen it now, and although it’s not your fault, you should avoid getting involved in such matters in the future. It isn’t good for your reputation. Also, you need to get along with your classmates. If you can’t handle relationships in school, how will you manage in the real world?”
Lavinia considered herself a good teacher, always offering life advice, even now. Emily remained cold, knowing that getting along with others depended on their worth. Having lived through a lot, she understood that absolute power eliminates difficult relationships.
Ignoring Lavinia’s advice, Emily said, “So, are you going to handle the online issue now?”
“What?” Lavinia frowned, feeling that Emily hadn’t listened to her advice at all, her attitude growing colder. “Since it’s not your fault, I’ll ask the admin to take down the post. That’s it.”
“Is that all?”
“What more do you want?” Lavinia asked, annoyed by Emily’s persistence.
Emily met Lavinia’s sharp gaze, “It’s simple. The post was made by Ronnie Ford from the Computer Science Department. He spread false rumors and led the online harassment against me. I want a public apology from him and disciplinary action.”
Lavinia knew her husband’s company was looking to collaborate with Ronnie’s professor, Glenn Cole, Ronnie was a prominent figure in the Computer Science department, Glenn’s prized student. Asking Glenn to discipline Ronnie would jeopardize the collaboration.
‘No way!” Lavinia rejected outright. “I can ask him to apologize privately, but disciplinary action is too much. You weren’t harmed, and a disciplinary record could ruin his future. Don’t be so narrow-minded.”

Emily’s gaze remained cold. “I wasn’t harmed because I endured it. That’s no excuse for him to escape punishment. If you can’t be fair, I’ll report this to the school administration myself.*
Emily collected the photos and USB drive before Lavinia could react. Lavinia’s expression hardened, refusing to back down. Emily turned to leave, but Lavinia blocked her path.
“Stop! You can’t go? Lavinia threatened, “Emily, don’t be stubborn. Follow my solution, or you’ll regret it. You need my approval for your graduation. If you don’t listen, be prepared not to graduate!*
Emily’s face turned icy. She smiled faintly at Lavinia, “Thanks for the reminder. I’ll transfer to another department. Then you won’t be able to block my graduation.”
Lavinia thought Emily was bluffing. She laughed, “You think transferring is that easy? It requires my approval. If I tell the other department you’re not a good student, who would accept you?’
Lavinia felt triumphant, believing she controlled Emily’s fate. Emily remained calm, smiling, “No need to worry. I’ve already found a professor willing to take
Lavinia frowned, doubting Emily’s claim. She mocked, ‘You talk big. Which professor would take you?”
Emily didn’t hesitate, dialing Kurt’s number in front of Lavinia, asking him to come over. Lavinia watched, expecting Emily to fail. But as Emily made the call, Lavinia felt a twinge of panic, though she quickly calmed down, thinking Emily was bluffing.
