“Emily, do you even know what you’re saying?”

James couldn’t believe the words ‘break off the engagement” had slipped so easily from her lips. His face darkened as he questioned her.
Emily remained indifferent. “I…”
“Emily… Bianca interrupted urgently before Emily could finish.
A fleeting look of joy crossed Bianca’s eyes, but she continued to speak with concern. “Emily, you can’t be impulsive. Don’t let a disagreement between you and me push you to say something rash. Apologize to James. He cares about you so much; he’ll forgive you for saying something in the heat of the moment.”
Bianca then tugged on James’s sleeve. “James, Emily only said that out of jealousy. It’s partly my fault. Can you forgive her and stick to the engagement?”
Compared to Emily’s cold demeanor, Bianca appeared kinder and more understanding.
Why couldn’t Emily learn to be more like Bianca?
But this gave him an out.
“Fine, for your sake, I won’t hold it against her.”
He nodded, his gaze softening.
But when he looked at Emily, his eyes turned icy. “Emily, as long as you apologize, I won’t break up with you.”
James still thought she was just speaking out of anger, not realizing her resolve.
“An apology is out of the question,” Emily said firmly.
“How can you be so ungrateful and stubborn?” Hayden snapped. “Look at yourself, then look at Bianca. If you could be even a fraction as sensible as Bianca, we wouldn’t have this chaos.”
“Exactly, Emily. We’re giving you a chance to apologize because Bianca is kind and generous. Anyone else would have kicked you out by now, but we’re tolerating you for Bianca’s sake,” Finn chimed in.
Emily laughed coldly inside.
Even though the truth had come out, and she wasn’t the one who hurt Bianca, but helped her, she was still seen as the villain because Bianca felt her reputation was at risk.
Once a heart is biased, there’s no straightening it.
Finn turned to James. “James, I think Emily is doing this on purpose. She probably thinks you won’t really break up with her, so she’s acting fearless. If you agree to break up, I bet she’ll back down immediately.”

James’s eyes flickered as he looked deeply at Emily.
“James, don’t… Bianca started to say, as if trying to persuade him.

Seeing Bianca’s selflessness made James even more resolute. “Since you’re so ungrateful, I’ll break up with you when we get back.”
Emily’s fingers curled slightly.
Even though she had decided and was mentally prepared, a wave of pain still washed over her.
Eli’s heart sank at the mention of a breakup, and he was about to speak.
But Emily raised her eyes and suddenly said, “Wait!”
James’s eyes flashed with a hint of triumph, thinking: Of course, she couldn’t bear to break up.
“What’s the matter? Regretting it now?” he sneered.
Eli also breathed a sigh of relief.
Hayden scoffed. “I knew it. This is just a ploy to use Bianca’s kindness to speak for her. How could someone as shameless as her be serious? James, you should stick to the breakup and not give her a chance to back out.”
James’s face turned cold, clearly agreeing with Hayden.
Emily laughed coldly. “James, you and Bianca love making people apologize. You’re a perfect match. I couldn’t be happier to let you be together. Why would I regret it?”
“Then what do you want to say?” James asked, his face darkening.
Emily pulled out a necklace she had always kept close. It was cheap, but precious because of who gave it to her. Now, she threw it at James without hesitation.
“To avoid any delays, let’s break up now. This is the token you gave me. I’m returning it. Give me back the ring I gave you, and we can end this engagement right here and now.”
James instinctively caught the necklace, feeling a strange sense of loss, as if something precious had slipped away.
But thinking about the token he gave her, which she so heartlessly returned, made him furious.
How dare she!
James felt his blood boil. “Fine, fine, fine. Someone as unreasonable and complicated as you doesn’t deserve to marry me. We’ll break up. I don’t have the ring with me today, but I’ll have it sent to you as soon as I get back to the Smith Villa.”
Emily thought for a moment, then nodded. “Alright. I trust the Smith family to keep their word.”
She suddenly smiled and raised her phone. “Of course, I’m not worried..I recorded everything.”

“You… you’re something else!”
James couldn’t believe she didn’t trust him and even recorded their conversation.
When did she become so cunning and calculating?
At that moment, she felt like a stranger to him.
Eli, seeing James truly angry, feared he might take it out on the Johnson family. He couldn’t hold back any longer and scolded, “What nonsense are you spouting? James’s choice to be engaged to you is a blessing. You don’t appreciate it and still cause trouble?”
Emily looked at Eli, who always prioritized benefits, and bluntly revealed his thoughts.
“Don’t worry. Even though I’m breaking off the engagement, Bianca can take my place. Isn’t that what you wanted?”

“Emily…” Bianca’s eyes filled with tears, her voice choked. “I didn’t realize you misunderstood me so deeply. I got close to James because of you.”
Bianca glanced at James, as if making a huge sacrifice. “To ease your worries, I’ll avoid James from now on, as long as you don’t hold a grudge against me or the Johnson family and don’t make James sad.”
What a clever move.
James’s expression changed slightly.
He quickly held Bianca’s hand. “It’s not your fault. You don’t have to do that.”
He looked coldly at Emily. “If there’s no trust, there’s no point in this engagement.”
He said it without hesitation, his gaze icy.
Emily thought, maybe he had wanted to say this for a long time.
“Indeed, a fiancé like you is not a blessing,” she said with a cold smile.
James’s face darkened.
The air in the car seemed to freeze.
Eli was furious.
He knew if she stayed any longer, she’d only anger James more. He decided to show his stance and help James vent.
“Driver, stop the car,” Eli ordered. Then he turned to Emily coldly. “You’ve grown bold, haven’t you? Get out and reflect on your actions!”
James remained silent, clearly agreeing.
Even though it was pouring outside.

Bianca lowered her eyes, a hint of triumph flashing, but to others, she seemed still immersed in sadness. Hayden and Finn naturally
comforted her.
