Chapter 7
Emily didn’t show a hint of weakness.
:.
As soon as the car door automatically opened, she got out without looking back.
Seeing her defiant stance, Eli tried to calm James down, ‘James, Emily’s just spoiled by us. Plus, she grew up without proper guidance, picking up some bad habits from her time scavenging. Think of this as a way to temper her. Maybe she’ll learn to behave.
Alright.
James’s eyes darkened at the mention of scavenging.
Wasn’t she always the one who knew how to please people?
If she came back now to apologize, he might forgive her for old times‘ sake.
Emily had no idea what he was thinking.
Even if she did, she wouldn’t turn back.
She walked into the misty rain.
The torrential downpour created a barrier of water, separating her from him into two different worlds.
The car slowly drove away.
One car, followed by another.
It was Cleo and Aiden’s car.
Because Cleo wasn’t feeling well and had rushed to the police station out of worry, they had taken a smaller car instead of the usual limo.
Their car brushed past Emily, splashing water all over her.
Emily didn’t care and kept walking.
The car then reversed.
Soon, Aiden, holding an umbrella, accompanied Cleo to stand in front of Emily.
“Emily, how could you be so foolish? You can’t just call off your engagement with James. If James doesn’t want you anymore, with your background of scavenging, who else would take you?‘ Cleo’s words seemed earnest, as if she genuinely cared.
Under the umbrella stood Cleo, dressed in luxury and with impeccable makeup.
Outside the umbrella was the drenched and frail Emily.

The contrast was stark.

Emily looked up, seeing Cleo through the rain. Memories of Cleo’s coldness and eagerness for her bone marrow before her death flashed in her mind.
“Mom, you think my scavenging background is shameful, but James being my fiancé can save face for you, right? How can I compare to your precious Bianca!”
Because Bianca was the one Cleo cherished and who could bring her honor.
Compared to Emily, who had nothing and even had the stain of scavenging, Bianca was naturally the favored one.
After living a life of confusion, she finally saw things clearly.
“Why won’t you listen? And how can you compare yourself to Bianca? You need to know your place,” Cleo said, slightly angry.
In her past life, Emily had been too timid and never truly resisted.
So, Cleo had always appeared kind and gentle.
Now, her true feelings were exposed.
She looked down upon her.
Aiden also tried to persuade, “We know what happened in the car. Emily, you need to grow up. Go back and apologize. I’ll talk to James and Bianca, and we’ll let this go.”
“Impossible!”
Emily said firmly, “You should leave!”
This Aiden, whom she had risked her life to save in her past life, had agreed without hesitation to Cleo’s proposal to use her bone marrow, even knowing it could threaten her life.
After speaking, she walked in the opposite direction from their car.
Step by step, she distanced herself from them.
As if she were leaving their lives for good.
Aiden and Cleo, seeing no point in staying, quickly left in their car.
At that moment, from a low–key luxury car across the street, a chiseled face saw Emily in the rain and frowned.
“Wait!” he said in a deep voice, suddenly instructing the driver.
The car screeched to a halt.
From the driver’s seat, a similarly handsome but more roguish face turned back, “Daniel, you just got your injury treated. Why are you

making me stop so urgently? Did you spot the person who ambushed you today?‘
Daniel didn’t respond.
His deep gaze was fixed on the drenched Emily by the roadside.
Was it her?
Wasn’t she still sick? And now in the rain.

Daniel was about to speak when another car stopped beside Emily.
The window rolled down, revealing a bright but slightly haughty face.
“Hey, get in! I’m feeling generous today and will give you a ride,” Sophia said, surprised to see Emily, who had just left with the Johnson family, now drenched and alone by the roadside.
Honestly, seeing how the Johnson family treated Emily at the police station, she felt a bit of sympathy.
So, she decided to be kind for once.
“Alright!”
Emily, whom Sophia expected to stubbornly refuse and waste her breath, surprised her by getting in without a word.
“Stay away from me. You’re getting me wet. Hurry up and dry off,” Sophia said, scooting away and tossing a large towel to Emily.
Emily took the towel and dried herself.
Sophia couldn’t help but mock, “Were you kicked out of the car? I told you, Bianca isn’t a good person. She pretends to care about you, but in the end, everyone despises you. How about we team up?”
Emily paused, looking at Sophia’s scheming eyes.
Though not particularly smart, she wasn’t bad–hearted.
Even in her past life, when Emily defended Bianca, Sophia never looked down on or bullied her like the other girls.
In this life, Sophia was even extending an olive branch.
“Team up? No thanks. I don’t want to be a pawn in your fight with Bianca,” Emily declined.
Sophia, annoyed at being rejected, glared at Emily, about to speak.
“But,” Emily continued, “I can offer you an opportunity.”
“What do you mean?” Sophia asked, confused by the mysterious tone.
Emily smiled mysteriously, her tone oddly convincing, “Trust me. I’ll call you tomorrow. Come with me to a place.”

The opportunity to become John’s student, which Eli had mentioned at the police station, was something Bianca clearly knew about and
coveted.
Bianca wanted it, so Emily decided to give it to the person Bianca least wanted to have it–Sophia.
“Alright, I doubt you’d dare trick me,‘ Sophia said, feeling inexplicably convinced by Emily’s gaze.
“Please take me to Amber District, Maple Avenue. Thanks!” Emily requested, not surprised at all.
The place she mentioned was the home she and James once shared.
To be precise, it was the old house where James and Uma had lived. James had taken her in, and Uma had known and brought her home.
So, it was the place she considered home.
She had secretly bought the house back after earning some money.
That night, for the first time since her rebirth, she slept peacefully.
At dawn, she was awakened by a call from the Johnson family.
“Emily, you’re a girl. How could you stay out all night? And don’t forget, you promised to take Bianca to Mr. Williams. Did you forget?” Eli’s loud, accusing voice came through the phone.
He seemed to forget that he was the one who kicked her out of the car, leaving her to fend for herself in the pouring rain.
Now, he had the nerve to question why she stayed out all night!
