Chapter 107 The Story of Patrick and YaraÂ

Ava never imagined there would be so many relatives in the Morren family. Her face felt stiff from all the smiling. Even though she was going crazy inside, she couldn’t let it show.Â
Suddenly, there was a commotion in the crowd. Ava looked over and saw a woman walking at the front. She moved quickly, her strides long and urgent. As soon as she stepped inside the estate, her eyes swept the room before heading straight toward the Morrens.Â
“Jonathan, which one is Patrick’s granddaughter?” Her voice rang out before she even reached them.Â
Jonathan looked at her and hesitated for a moment before calling out, “Yara?”Â
“It’s me,” Yara replied, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.Â
Jonathan said, “It’s been a long time. How have you been all these years?”Â
Yara didn’t answer, but pressed on, “Jonathan, I want to see the child.”Â
Jonathan pointed at Ava, “That’s Patrick’s granddaughter.”Â
As soon as he finished, Ava felt a pair of hands grab her forearm tightly. She looked and met the eyes of the woman, now filled with tears and hope that put immense pressure on Ava.Â
Margaret stepped forward, holding Yara’s arm, “Yara, you don’t come home often. It’s nice to see you. Let’s talk over here.”Â
Ava followed them into the room. As soon as the door closed, she heard quiet sobbing. The crying wasn’t loud or wrenching, but somehow it tore at her heart.Â
Margaret silently patted her back. After a long while, she finally said, “Yara, try to calm down.”Â
“Is your Uncle Patrick really…” Yara looked up, her lips trembling. She couldn’t get the wordsÂ
out.Â
Margaret nodded, “Yes, we finally found Uncle Patrick, but he wasn’t well. Dad only got to see him one last time.”Â
Hearing this, Yara’s tears finally spilled over. Her voice was hoarse, “Didn’t they tell me he died on the battlefield? I said he was alive, and they called me crazy and said I was out of my mind. No one believed me, no one…”Â
“Yara, he was badly wounded. He escaped to the Underworld, but he lost his memory.” Margaret spoke with difficulty, “He never knew who he was or where he came from. He picked up a child and raised her. 13 years ago, they finally escaped from there. Three years ago, he fell into aÂ

coma and only woke up earlier this year. Dad rushed to meet him, and no one expected that it would be the last time they saw each other…”Â
Margaret’s eyes grew red too, “Yara… Uncle Patrick wouldn’t want to see you like this, whereverÂ
he is now.”Â
“Patrick…” Yara whispered, tears silently streaming down her face.Â
Ava understood now that the woman before her was her grandfather’s former fiancée. She stared wide–eyed, doing her best to keep her emotions in check, listening to Yara’s silent wailing and feeling that pain seep deep into her bones.Â
I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of love would last more than a century. What kind of passion lets someone hold on to a relationship for so long, never forgetting? Yara must have loved Grandpa deeply. I wonder what Grandpa really felt in his last moments.Â
A tear slid from the corner of Ava’s eye as she stood quietly, keeping Yara company.Â
She didn’t know how much time had passed before that hoarse voice came again. “Kid, will you come over here so I can take a good look at you?”Â
Ava walked over and stood in front of her, “I’m Ava. I was abandoned as a baby, and Grandpa took me in. My nickname is Avie.”Â
“Ava… your name is Ava… Avie…” Yara murmured, and her tears started falling again. Her face twisted with both joy and pain.Â
“Patrick, when I grow up, will you let me beÂ
your bride?”Â
“Yara, you’re still young. Don’t say such silly things. When you grow up, you’ll meet someone better than me.”Â
“No, you’re the only one that I like. I want to be your bride…”Â
“Patrick, I’ll be waiting for you to come back in triumph on Capitol Planet. When you return, let’s get married, okay?”Â
“Yara, I have no idea what lies ahead for me. I can’t promise you anything. If I don’t make it back, you shouldn’t wait for me.”Â
“I don’t care, I’ll wait for you anyway. Patrick, you won’t leave me behind, right?”Â
“Patrick, I got you this rosary at the church. It has got your name carved on it. I prayed for aÂ

long time and asked for the Virgin Mary’s blessing. Take it with you to the battlefield, and it will keep you safe.Â
“Patrick, when we’re married, let’s have a daughter. I’ve already picked her name–Ava. Her nickname will be Avie. If you don’t say anything, I’ll take it as a yes. You can’t go back on your word. I’ll be waiting for you on Capitol Planet.”Â
