Grace rolled her eyes and kept piling it on. ‘This guy’s the heir to the Holcomb Corporation. And this one? He was featured in a top finance magazine. You really don’t wanna run with this?‘ 

You’re seriously outta your mind if you think this is a normal scoop. Ms. Morren, we’ve known each other a long time. I’m not just blowing smoke–what you’ve got? Grace was furious. That d*mn broker just wanted a bigger cut. She hated that she couldn’t deal with the real shot–caller directly. She had no choice but to play along. She held back her frustration and texted, ‘Ian, come on. After all these years, don’t do me like this.‘ 

‘You’ve looked out for me plenty. You also know this is probably my last drop. Let’s make it fifty mil. I’m giving you the friend rate here. 

‘And I didn’t even tell you the best part yet. That last clip? Someone walked in on them mid–act‘ 

She twisted the story as she sent over a shot of Asher shoving open the door in a panic. She didn’t blur a thing. His face said everything—barely holding it together. 

‘I’m still here, by the way. Odds are it’s about to get even crazier. Wanna see for yourself?‘ 

‘Thirty million. If you think that’s low, take it elsewhere. Ms. Morren, your footage is only worth something if it actually makes it out. Otherwise, it dies with you.’ 

‘Fine. Thirty it is. Send ten now, and I’ll give you a clean, full Ryan clip to start.‘ 

She had barely typed that when the door swung open. She froze and hit stealth cam mode. 

Asher stormed in, shoved the guys out, and slammed the door shut behind them. 

Ryan turned, pissed. “What the hell’s your problem, Asher?” 

Asher didn’t even try to play nice. “Ryan, you’re standing in the Morren house. You realize that,

“A bunch of grown men sneaking into my sister’s room? Seriously? You guys have no shame.” He lit into them without holding back. “I kept my mouth shut in front of Ava because she’s got a soft heart. 

“But you guys? Pulling crap like this? You’re no better than predators. You want people thinking she’s in here with a bunch of adult men on her birthday? Don’t forget–she doesn’t feel anything for any of you.” 

That one cut deep. 

Mason brushed off his blazer and fixed the flower pinned to it. He straightened a petal like it mattered more than Asher. “You ever hear someone say you’ve got the most annoying mouth around?” 

He didn’t need Asher to spell out that Ava didn’t like them. That much was obvious. 

Keith smiled, but it didn’t soften what came next. “Asher, let me make one thing real clear. You’re just her brother. That’s all you’ll ever be.” 

He tapped Asher’s chest with two fingers. His expression stayed warm, but his stare could slice through steel. “I’ll tolerate you hanging around. But if I even think you’ve got something twisted in your head about her, I’ll bury you.” 

“What kind of bull are you spewing?” Asher slapped his hand away. “You’ve completely lost it. Go get your head checked at that fancy hospital your family owns.” 

Keith didn’t even flinch. He straightened his sleeve and spoke like it was nothing. “You know I’m right. You can lie to them, but not to yourself. You seriously think I haven’t noticed the way you look at her? It’s not the same as how you look at Jane. Don’t play dumb. 

“I get it. A girl like Ava? She’s irresistible. But even if there’s no blood between you two, it doesn’t matter. You and her? Never gonna happen.”
