Ava looked at the ten or so breakfast dishes on display. She raised her head and said, “Why don’t you recommend something for me?”Â
“Sure.”Â
Ava watched as he quickly filled several sections of the tray. She hurried to say, “That’s enough. It’s too much. I can’t finish it, and it’ll go to waste.”Â
Keith stopped. He carried her breakfast to the table before going to get his own.Â
They sat across from each other. They ate breakfast and chatted about everyday things.Â
After eating, Ava went to greet Elena. She stayed for a bit and then went to finish her remaining tests.Â
All the tests were done by ten in the morning.Â
After he went through all the exams with her, Keith didn’t want to waste time at the hospital. The snow outside had already stopped, so he suggested, “There’s a really lively amusement park not far from here. Do you want to go take a look?”Â
An amusemeÂ
The idea felt unfamiliar to Ava. There had been nothing like that where she grew up. Later, when she lived on Alamut Planet with her grandpa, it was a very remote place. Resources were limited, and there were only a few small rides. She was already a teenager, so she didn’t go.Â
She looked out the window. The snow had stopped, and the road was a little wet in the sky. It didn’t look like it had just snowed.Â
“Okay. Let’s go to the amusement park.”Â
sun was already brightÂ
The park was only about a quarter of a mile from the hospital, so they decided to walk.Â
The ground was still damp. There were patchy marks on the tiles where snowmelt had soaked in. As they walked along the sidewalk, a sudden gust of wind shook the trees. A rush of water drops fell with the moving leaves. Some landed in Ava’s hair, and some fell on her raised face. They felt cool. She quickly covered her head.Â
“Let me see.”Â
He stepped closer and stood behind her. He lowered his head to check the drops in her hair. He lightly picked them off with his fingertips and said, “It’s okay. There isn’t much.”Â
She could feel his fingers moving through her hair. She wiped the drops off her face and asked, “Is it done?”Â
“Almost. Wait a moment.”Â

“All done.”Â
She lifted her head. “Thank you.”Â
“You don’t need to be so polite with me,” he said. He held out his hand in front of her. “My princess, I want to hold your hand. Will you give me this chance?”Â
She looked at his eyes. There was also a small drop of water on his forehead. It must have splashed on him,Â
too.Â
His nose was straight and fine. She noticed his face was actually quite small. It was a classic small face with good proportions. With his posture and manners, he really looked like a gentle young noble.Â
She raised her hand and brushed his forehead. Her fingertip waved in front of him. “Look. You got water on your forehead, too.”Â
He smiled softly. “Thank you.”Â
She looked at her finger. The mark dried almost at once in the wind. She smiled. “It’s nothing.”Â
He opened an umbrella and took her hand, smiling. “A knight usually takes the lead and holds his princess‘ hand.”Â
She let him hold it. His hand was as fine as his looks. His palm was dry and a little warm when he held hers.Â
They walked together along the path. Tall green trees lined the way and framed their figures as they went. A cold wind blew now and then. Drops fell from the shaking leaves, but the clear umbrella blocked them all. Under the umbrella was a quiet little world that wasn’t disturbed.Â
She had thought it was only a small park. When she saw a park as big as dozens o almost popped out.Â

Because it had snowed earlier, a clear dome shield had been raised over the park, and it hadn’t been taken down yet. The dome covered the whole park. The ground inside wasn’t slippery at all. It was crowded and noisy. There were adults and kids everywhere.Â
Ava stood at the entrance, staring at the lively scene in a daze.Â
Keith went to line up for tickets and came back right away.Â
He said gently, “Let’s go. I bought an all–access pass. You can ride whatever you want.”Â
