The girl talked at lightning speed, her words coming out like a rapid–fire machine gun. When she finally paused, she gave Ava a quick glance and then added, “On Capitol Planet, even the tiniest ant you step on could turn out to be someone’s precious pet from a powerful family. Can you please tone it down a little? If you cause trouble one day, what are you going to do then? Ms. Caldwell specifically asked you to look after me.”Â
The boy, Kenneth Shaw, pulled a face. “Vanna, you’ve said that about a hundred times already. My ears are about to sprout calluses. Can you switch it up for once?”Â
“You raised your voice at me? Just wait–I’m telling Ms. Caldwell!”Â
Ava listened quietly as the two bickered beside her like a pair of childhood sweethearts. The girl sounded bossy and smug, but beneath the attitude, there was something softer–shy affection, maybe. Like someone just beginning to understand her own feelings. Pity the boy beside her seemed completely oblivious.Â
Ah, to be young and painfully clueless.Â
She turned her gaze to the window. Starry Heavens University was massive. No wonder there were shuttle buses on campus–walking across the whole school on foot would’ve been a day- long adventure.Â
Soon, the shuttle came to a stop, and Ava stepped off. She glanced at a directional sign and made her wayÂ
toward a red–and–white building marked clearly on the map–the President’sÂ
Office.Â
She knocked lightly. A cool, almost youthful voice from inside called out, “Come in.” Ava paused, surprised–the voice didn’t sound like it belonged to a university president at all.Â
She glanced at the door again. It did, in fact, say President’s Office. She turned the handle and peeked inside. A young man in a casual jacket was standing at the desk.Â
“Hi, excuse me. Is Mr. Mosse here? I’m here to complete my enrollment. Mr. Jones told me to come straight here.”Â
The man smiled warmly. “Hey, new student? He just stepped out. Should be back soon. Go ahead and have a seat–he won’t be long.”Â
Ava nodded and quietly sat down on the nearby couch. She looked around the office briefly, then folded her hands in her lap and waited.Â
Roughly seven or eight minutes later, a man with sharp eyes and a dignified presence walkedÂ

- in. He headed straight to his desk, only then noticing the young woman seated in the room.Â
“AndÂ
youÂ
are…?”Â
Ava stood up immediately and stepped forward, her tone respectful. “Mr. Mosse, hello. I’m Ava Morren. This is the letter of recommendation Mr. Jones wrote for me. I’m here to finalize my enrollment.”Â
She held out the letter with both hands. Mr. Mosse accepted it but didn’t open it right away. Instead, he looked at her kindly.Â
“So you’re Ava Morren,” he said with a nod. “Your student file has already been transferred into our system. Mr. Jones has briefed me on your situation. Thank you for choosing Starry Heavens University. I hope the next five years bring you growth and success.”Â
He then turned to the young man still in the room. “Stellan, take her to The Orchid Court, will you? And show her around campus while you’re at it.”Â
The young man nodded. “Of course, Mr. Mosse.”Â
“Let’s go,” he said, turning to Ava.Â
She didn’t decline the offer and followed him out of the office.Â
She kept a polite distance, walking a few paces behind him.Â
After a moment, he turned to glance back and offered a quick introduction. “Hey. I’m Stellan Night. I am a third–year student, and also the president of the student council. Welcome to Starry Heavens. Hope your life here is everything you’re hoping for.”Â
Ava responded simply, “Thank you.”Â
Stellan could sense her cool demeanor. She made no effort to offer her own introduction or even a smile. Curious, he glanced at her again, but quickly looked away so as not to make her uncomfortable. As they walked, he pointed out various landmarks around campus.Â
It was nearly a 20–minute walk before they finally arrived at The Orchid Court.Â
“This is where I leave you,” he said with a smile. “Once you go inside, someone will meet you and get you settled in.”Â
“Thank you again,” Ava said and turned to head in.Â
Stellan stood there for a moment, watching her go. He didn’t move until she was completely out of sight.Â
Inside the gates, Ava walked a short distance before spotting a woman wearing a staff badgeÂ

She approached her with a respectful nod. “Hi, I’m Ava Morren. Mr. Mosse sent me to The Orchid Court to handle my dorm check–in.”Â
Nina Hayes had received notice ahead of time. Hearing the name, she smiled warmly. “Welcome, Ava. Just call me Ms. Hayes. I’m the coordinator for Orchid Court. Come on, let’s go record your profile data. After that, we’ll get you to your room.”Â
