Ryan let out a cold snort. “Take this as a warning. Don’t post a single word about what happened today online. You crossed the line with her, and I don’t want to see you anywhere near the racing world ever again. I shouldn’t have to spell out what that means.”
Skyler lowered his head and replied, “I understand. I’ll issue a public apology across all platforms and formally announce my retirement.”
Ava glanced at Ryan, her lips parting as if she wanted to say something, but in the end, she remained silent.
“Ava is kind–hearted,” Keith declared with a faint smile, casually tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. “Don’t let these men’s sob stories soften your heart. If hed had the courage to admit he truly liked you, he night’ve earned a shred of respect for at least taking responsibility. Instead, the moment things went wrong, he started making excuses. That’s a complete lack of backbone. We forced him out of the industry is already being merciful.”
Not long after, Asher arrived with the police. Jolene was escorted into a patrol car, while her remaining two husbands didn’t follow. They simply turned and walked away.
Ava watched the scene quietly, her gaze dark and unreadable.
On the drive back, she didn’t feel like talking. She leaned against the window in silence, staring outside and lost in her thoughts.
Suddenly, a video call from Jane came through. Asher answered, only to be met with a furious barrage of scolding. He stood there like a chastened child, not daring to argue even once.
Jonathan stood at the entrance and barked, “You disgrace! Get down on your knees!”
He dropped to his knees with a dull thud, head bowed low. “I’m sorry, Grandpa. I failed to protect Ava.”
“So you admit your failure,” Jonathan snapped. “In that case, prepare to face family discipline.”
Ava’s face drained of color. She hurried to Jonathan’s side and pleaded urgently, “Great–uncle Jonathan, this has nothing to do with Asher. They deliberately caused trouble. Please–don’t punish him. Please.”
He looked at Ava and said sternly, “Ava, the moment he dared to take you out, your safety became his responsibility. Not only did he put you in danger, but when something went wrong, he lacked the ability to fully handle the consequences. That is incompetence!”
“Take her to the hospital–now. All of you,” Jonathan commanded.
“I’m not going to the hospital. I’m fine,” Ava said firmly, meeting his gaze without flinching. “My safety is my own responsibility. What does this have to do with Asher?”
“If this alone is enough to warrant family punishment,” he continued evenly, “then as the person primarily responsible for my own safety, shouldn’t I be the one punished instead?”
He stared at her, then turned sharply toward the men behind her. “What are you all standing around for? Take her to get checked immediately!”
She spun around, her voice sharp and unyielding. “I said I’m not going to the hospital. If any of you dare lay a hand on me, we’re done–right here and now! I mean it!”
“Ava Morren!” he shouted.

Chapter 68 The Family Discipline
He was so furious his beard bristled. He hadn’t expected the girl to be this stubborn.
The men had been ready to follow Jonathan’s orders, but after hearing her words, none of them dared to
move.
“Ava, please go with them to the hospital,” Asher said from where he knelt, looking up at her. His heart was pounding–she was actually standing up to their grandfather for his sake. “I’ll be fine. It’s just family punishment. I can take it.”
“If taking me out means you have to bear responsibility for everything,” she shot back loudly, “then shouldn’t they be held responsible too? Compared to you, they’re still my legal ‘husbands,‘ aren’t they?”
“When something goes wrong, you blame someone else what kind of logic is that? Since when is an adult woman not allowed to take responsibility for her own life and instead has to rely on others to do it for her?” she insisted.
Jonathan trembled with rage. A long whip of deep bluish–purple light appeared in his palm with a sharp flick of his hand. Even from a distance, it radiated an icy bone–chilling cold. It lashed across Asher’s back several times with a piercing crack.
“Great–uncle Jonathan!” Ava rushed forward and grabbed his wrist tightly. “Great–uncle Jonathan, I was the one who begged my brother to take me out. This truly has nothing to do with him!”
“Please—don’t hit him anymore. Please.” Tears welled in Ava’s eyes, threatening to fall, but she forced them back. She saw Asher’s clothes torn apart by the whip, his back split open with fresh wounds. The flesh looked as if it had been instantly frozen–his blood hadn’t even had time to fully flow before it stiffened, a horrifying sight.
Jonathan’s tone finally softened upon seeing Ava like this.
“Ava, why are you so soft–hearted? If anything had happened to you, how would your grandfather and I ever explain it? He is your Brother. If he takes you out, then he is responsible for your safety—and he failed. That is negligence. Being provoked and still unable to resolve the situation? That is even worse incompetence,” he explained.
“Ava, you once relied on your grandfather alone. Life was difficult, and you longed for family–I understand all of that. But you must also understand this: the outside world is dangerous. You’re a young woman. There can be no room for even the slightest mistake,” he continued.
“Great–uncle Jonathan, I understand,” Ava said softly. “Today was a lesson for me. Please forgive my brother this once, alright? I promise I’ll be more careful from now on. I won’t stir up trouble when I go out, and the moment something feels wrong, I’ll leave. I won’t put myself in danger again.”
