Chapter 72 Too Many Eyes

“Ethan’s right,” Jonathan said. “Ava, your uncle and I both hope you stay on the Capitol Planet for school. Now that you have this kind of talent, you need to be even more careful about your choices.” 

Ava nodded. “I understand. I just don’t have any clear plans right now. I’ll think about it carefully.” 

“Let’s wait for the experiment results from Keith before we talk about changing majors,” Claire said. She noticed how tired Ava looked and turned to the others. She’s exhausted today. Let her rest. We can discuss everything later.” 

Ava was worn out. Forcing plants to grow took a huge mental toll on her. She had no energy left to answer more questions. She had already shown them her secret Now it was their turn to think it through. All she wanted was to sleep. 

She felt grateful that Claire had noticed her exhaustion. Mrs. Holcomb, I’m going to sleep for a bit.” 

She didn’t expect that once she fell asleep, she wouldn’t wake up until the next day. 

When she opened her eyes, it was 7:20 a.m. The sky was still dim, and the room was quiet. Ava sat up in the hospital bed and saw several figures standing right in front of her. She jumped in fright. After a moment, she finally spoke. “Why are you all here?” 

“You didn’t wake up, so we waited,” Ethan said as he pressed the light switch on the wall. 

The sudden brightness made Ava close her eyes. Once she adjusted, she looked again. Everyone except Keith was there. All four of them were still wearing yesterday’s clothes. It was obvious they hadn’t gone home at all. 

Her expression turned complicated. “I’m fine. You didn’t need to stay up all night.” 

“Missing one night of sleep isn’t a big deal,” Laurent said. “How do you feel?” 

“I feel fine,” Ava said. 

Mason checked his Holoband. His assistant had already arrived at the hospital entrance. “I’ll go get breakfast. You can wash up and eat when I’m back.” 

He walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. 

Ryan felt annoyed. He had forgotten about that and let him show off again. 

What a schemer. 

Ethan took a bag from the cabinet and walked over to the bed. “Your clothes are here. Jane brought them last night. Are you getting up now, or do you want to sleep more?” 

Ava’s mind was still slow. She stared at him blankly. 

“Ava.” 

She snapped out of it. She grabbed the bag, kicked off the blanket, slid into her slippers, and rushed into the bathroom. The door slammed shut. 

When she came out after washing up and changing, the table outside was already covered with food.

“Ava, come eat breakfast,” Mason said as he pulled out a chair and waved at her. “I didn’t know what you liked, so I just bought a bit of everything.” 

Ava sat down and felt awkward all over, especially with so many pairs of eyes fixed on her. Each of them picked up something and tried to hand it to her. She shrank back in the chair and didn’t take anything. 

“You guys eat. I’ll take it myself,” she said. 

She picked up a bun on her own. 

That kind of attention was too much. Whoever wanted it could have it. She couldn’t handle it. 

Mason smiled. “Alright. Eat at your own pace.” 

Ava finally relaxed. She took a spoonful of pumpkin porridge. It was soft, sweet, and just the right temperature. 

After breakfast, a cleaning robot came in to tidy up the room. Ava clasped her hands together and gathered her courage. “If you have work to do, you can go. You don’t have to keep staying here with me.” 

The moment she said that, all of them looked at her at the same time. Her scalp tingled. She quickly glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past 8 a.m. She was supposed to be hospitalized, so why hadn’t the doctor come by yet? 

“Ava, are you really that eager for us to leave?” Mason said as he walked toward her. 

She had moved far away from them after breakfast and stood by the wall, pretending to look around. Her back pressed tightly against the wall. She gave an awkward smile. “I just thought you might be busy with work.” 

“I’m on vacation. I don’t have anything to do right now,” Laurent said as he walked over as well. 

Two men closed in from the left and right. 

The two Brock brothers exchanged a look and stood up. Every path behind Ava was blocked. She pressed against the wall, tense and nervous. “What are you doing? This is a hospital. I’m the patient. I’m warning you not to do anything reckless.” 

As she spoke, her eyes kept darting toward the tightly closed door. 

Why has no one come for rounds? 

“What are you worried about?” Mason said. He turned sideways and placed one hand against the wall near her left ear. 

“I know you’re a patient right now. You don’t need to keep reminding me,” Laurent said. He stood close on her right and lowered his head slightly. “What kind of inappropriate things are you even thinking about?”
