KEITH’S POVOÂ
The buzzer to my office sounded, and I pressed to let the person in. Diana walked into my office. She wore a long, flowy baby–blue gown. Her blonde hair was done up in a bun and she wore diamond jewelry to match. I recalled the Fundraising event was this evening. It was 6:30 pm right now I noted checking my watch. The event started around 7 pm.Â
“You look beautiful,” I complimented her dress.Â
“Thank you,” she replied.Â
Marco was at the estate. It was a weekday so he couldn’t come since he had school the following day.Â
I looked down at my desk and noticed the revealing documents that were on the table. Along with my work documents, there were other documents that pertained to Jasmine. My hands did their best to move quickly and unsuspiciously, as I hid Jasmine’s documents.Â
I did some further digging into Jasmine’s claims. I had the maids and servants who used to work in her house re–questioned. However, they claimed to have worked normally for Jasmine. I also checked their work logs. I didn’t find anything out of the ordinary either.Â
I didn’t know what to think anymore.Â
“Are you ready to go?” she asked me as she came up to me. We had a quick kiss.Â
Luckily things weren’t awkward between us after the time when we’d slept together and I was distracted.Â
“Yes, I just have to finish off some work and we can go,” I told her. I then had her sit in my seating area whilst she waited.Â
After about half an hour later we left the HQ and made our way to the event.Â
We made our rounds around the event room, greeting and speaking with several attendees. We met several of my business partners, friends, my father, and my half–brother.Â

“Darling, I have I go to the bathroom,” Diana told me.Â
“Sure, I’ll wait for you here,” I assured her, and then continued to look around. Trying to see who I could talk to next. It was then that I noticed him. I went towards him.Â
“Louis Carrington,” I said his name.Â
“Mr Acland, what a pleasure meeting you here,” he said to me. I knew he didn’t meanÂ
that.Â
“A pleasure for me as well,” I lied back to him. I noticed he was alone. “Jasmine’s not here with you tonight?” I asked him.Â
“She didn’t want to come,” he told me. I had no doubt Jasmine would want to avoid me. However, there was something in the manner he was staring at me that her not beingÂ
“I’m aware you still have yet to sign the divorce papers Jasmine requested you sign,” he told me.Â
“What does that have to do with you?” I asked him.Â
“It’s strange to delay don’t you think? Considering you have a lover?” He asked me.Â
“Respectfully, the situation with my wife is none of your business,” I told him. Of course, you’d be interested in that because you want her all to yourself don’t you? I thought to myself.Â
Just because she’s staying with you doesn’t mean you can be this cocky I thought to myself in annoyance.Â
”Â
“Why are you with Jasmine ?” I then asked him.Â
“What’s wrong with me being with her?” he asked confidently as if confused by my question.Â
“You’re fresh out of college why would you be with an older woman with a child?”Â
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “How is that relevant to anything? I’m an adultÂ
and I can be with whoever I want.”Â
“Admit it you’re just playing with her. You just want to get whatever you want and then you’ll dump her. You’re going to hurt her.” I told him my thoughts truthfully.Â
“That’s quite the accusation,” he laughed as I’d just told him the funniest thing. “How do you know I don’t genuinely have feelings for her?”Â

“You’re young and inexperienced what could you possibly offer her?”Â
“What I don’t have in age and experience, I make up for in my character, Chairman Acland,” he said to me full of confidence. “Something not everyone has. Sounds like you’re projecting.”Â
I scoffed in disbelief. Did he mean I didn’t have character? This brat… ” And whatÂ
exactly is that supposed to mean?” I asked him.Â
“Exactly, what you think it does,” he doubled down.Â
I drew even closer to him. “Careful–what you say to me,” I warned him my voice low and threatening. Was he crazy? He knew exactly who I was and yet was confidently challenging me. Louis‘ eye contact didn’t waver however, he remained confident as heÂ
stared me down.Â
“Why are you pretending to care for Jasmine?” Louis continued. “Saying all this stuff about me hurting her. I’m not the one who left my wife for a mistress. No offence, but I could never hurt like you. You’ve already taken that cake.”Â
“Excuse me?!” I asked. His words felt like a sharp sword puncturing my chest. “It’s not like that!” I quickly tried to defend myself.Â
However, I noticed the crowd talking behind us had suddenly gotten quiet. Averting my gaze I saw they were looking at me after my sudden outburst.Â
Looking back at Louis, I saw he was looking at me with a satisfied grin. My blood was boiling I wanted to snap back at him but eyes were already on us. I didn’t want to make any more of a scene.Â
“Chairman Acland!” I heard a voice call out from behind me. I looked and saw one of the international managing directors of the Acland group. He came up to me and placed a hand on my shoulder.Â
“I’m sorry am I interrupting something?” He asked as he looked from Louis to me.Â
Louis continued to give me that annoying look with that irksome grin of his.Â
“No, I was finishing off my chat here,” I said to the director.Â
“Take care, Mr Acland,” Louis said to me as he casually walked away from me,Â
Though I was agitated I turned my attention to the director and began talking to him as we walked away as well.Â

“Keith, there you are,” I then heard Diana’s voice some time later. Turning to look behind me, I saw her rush to my side.Â

“Where were you?” I asked her noting how much time she had taken to get back to me. I had almost forgotten she had come with me since I was still heated thinking about.Â
Louis.Â
“Sorry, I bumped into a friend on the way,” she told me. “And then I had to search for you in this crowd.”Â
I recalled I had moved away from where I’d told her she’d find me when she returned.Â
“Are you alright, honey ?” I asked her taking note of how she looked a little out of it.Â
“Yes,” she replied. “I’m fine just a little bit out of breath.”Â
