“But he did finish his homework, I was there,” Louis assured me.Â
“Mhmm” I accepted their answer in doubt.Â
“Alright, Tony why don’t you go on ahead and wash up in preparation for lunch time,” Louis told Tony.Â
“Okay but when can we When can we have another lesson?” He asked Louis excitedly.Â
“We can have one tomorrow,” he told him.Â
“Okay,” Tony said and left the room.Â
“I hadn’t realised you two had come besties,” I said to him once we were left alone.Â
“Jealous?” Louis asked in joking, mocking tone.Â
“Extremely,” I played along. “You going to tell me what that was about?” I then ask him.Â
“Unfortunately, that would be breaking our bro code,” Louis told me. “What I can tell you though, is that Tony loves you so much.”Â
I felt even more confused by the answer. “Alright then, I’ll leave it,” I decided to give up on getting an answer. I drew closer to him and held the punching bag.Â
“I didn’t know you were into boxing,” I said to him.Â
“Yeah, I started when I was in my late teens,” he explained. “It’s how I lost weight backÂ
then.”Â
I recalled he used to be chubby. Whilst I did find him adorable I do suppose it wasn’t a healthy weight to have.Â
“That’s amazing I’m glad you found something you enjoy.”Â
“Want to try a few punches?” He asked me as he got closer and held onto the other side of the punching bagÂ
I shook my head in refusal.Â
“Come on just a few, Tony was enjoying himself. You might like it as well, he tried to persuade me.Â
“I’m not up for it How about tomorrow during your second lesson with Tony I join youÂ

two?”Â
“Fine then,” he agreed.Â
“As Louis and Tony cleaned up to prepare for lunch I wait for in a sitting and scrolled through my phone. I noticed my brother had sent me a response earlier this morning.Â
“I’m free tomorrow.” His text read. Tomorrow was a SundayÂ
“Where should we meet?” I asked him.Â
‘Since the topic of discussion is our mother, why don’t we visit her grave?‘ He replied.Â
My facial expression scrunched up in discomfort. A cemetery was a bit of an odd place to pick for a meeting. However, it was our mothers documents I was requesting. I agreed and we scheduled a time.Â
After lunch, Louis, Tony and I set out to have a look at the last two homes. They were proper houses with a yard like th one Tony and had been staying in.Â
So which of the homes do you prefer?” Louis me as we made our way back to his apartment. “Or perhaps you want to continue searching?Â
“No I think the ones you chose are just fine,‘ I assured him. They all have good security which is the most important thing. I haven’t decideÂ
“Alright then let me know when you’ve made your choice.”Â

The following morning I prepared to meet my brother. I decided to wear the necklace that had belonged to my mother. I actually visited my mothers grave often on my own at least twice a year. Always on her birthday and the day she died.Â
Upon arriving I found a nice luxury car parked by the section of the cemetery where our mothers grave was located. A man stepped out once I got of my car.Â
“Jasmine,” he said my name as I approached.Â
“Lawrence,” I said his.Â
“You look well,” he commented as he eyed me up and down.Â
“Who are they?” he asked referring to Kyle and Henry.Â
“My bodyguards,” I explained.Â

He scoffed. “Shall we proceed?” he asked. We then went to our mothers grave. Upon arriving I placed the floors I had brought by her grave.Â
I brought some whisky,” he said as his assistant brought a and glass to him.Â
Want some?” he asked me.Â
“No,” I refused.Â
He poured himself a glass.Â
“This one’s for you mum,” he said as he took a sip. He then poured the rest of the whisky on her tombstone. “I doubt she liked whisky though.”Â
He was being oddly, talkative. We had never really talked in the past. However, now he was casually having a conversation with me like we often did this.Â
In loving memory of Angela Towers from 1965 to 1993; her tombstone read.Â
“Sad woman, wasn’t she? Sad life she lived,” he said as we looked at her tombstone. “Came from a rural town with a cult ancient religion. Got taken from it and suddenly thrust into this city lifestyle as father’s wife. Father probably chose her because he thought she would be easier to control and manipulate since she was a country bumpkin.”Â
Our mother grew up in a rural town and came from a group that followed an ancient tradition and religion of the country that has long since been abandoned by the majority of the population. I recalled that her religion was very important to her.Â
“I suppose that father wasn’t really satisfied with her, considering how he treated her.”Â
My expression fell upon hearing that.Â
“Lawrence, it wasn’t just about satisfaction, she was being abused by father,” I recalled all the times I’d seen her with bruises or heard him beating her up.Â
“Which is unfortunate,” he said. He sounded cold in how he said it. Lawrence and I were both young at the time this was happening so there was nothing much we could do. However, he should be sympathetic towards her.Â
“I see you’re wearing that necklace of hers she always wore,” he said looking at my neck. “God, she always used to pray and held onto that thing tightly as she did. Wishing for things to change.”Â
In the ancient religion my mother followed, there was a belief in their god grantingÂ

wishes to those when you prayed with the necklace. I wasn’t sure of the details but that was the gist of it. That’s what my mother told me.Â
“Why did you want to see me in person Lawrence? You’ve never ever asked to see me on my own before,” I finally asked him.Â
He looked at me for a moment before he spoke.Â
“There are rumours floating that my sister is with youngest Carrington son,” he started.”Hear I was thinking you’re about to be one an embarrassment of the family with Chairman Acland about to divorce you.”Â
So it was just as I had thought he wanted to see me because of the rumors.Â
“Way to save to yourself from that situation. It’s harder to convince your husband to take you back when he has a mistress isn’t it?”Â
He then began to laugh as of the situation was the funniest thing he ever heard.Â
