JASMINE’S POVÂ
“How about we have dinner at my place tomorrow night, then?” I asked Louis.Â
“You’re offering to make dinner?” he asked.Â
“As a small thanks to you for everything you’ve helped my son and me with. I know dinner isn’t much, but it’s a start,” I asked him.Â
“I would love to,” he agreedÂ
“You’re going to make cherry pie again?” Tony asked me excitedly.Â
“Sure,” I agreed.Â
“Oh, so I’ll finally get to taste these desserts of yours that are apparently so good?” Louis joined in.Â
I smiled at him. “I hope you’ll like them.”Â

Later that night Louis had us prepare our things in our rooms to be packed away for tomorrow. When I finally retired for the night I took out my laptop and went ahead and filed for a contested divorce on the family court website. With no update from Keith who kept insisting ‘he didn’t agree‘ with the terms, I decided it was time to go aheadÂ
with this.Â
I had to protect Tony and me from Diana’s future schemes. Separating from Keith was the quickest way. Knowing that she had possibly paid doctors to kill me made me realise I had underestimated just how unhinged she was.Â
Once I was done, I lay back on my bed looking at the ceiling. How and when had Diana poisoned me? I asked myself. That email was still stuck in my mind. In the hospital I knew it was the doctors giving me the poison but before I checked in how had she poisoned me?Â
I pondered my memories trying to figure it out.Â
After my divorce from Keith, I never saw either of them again. Despite my efforts to get his attention. He always ignored me. The entire time I went to sue in court I was dealing with his lawyers and other representatives. Is that how she did it?Â

I searched up the Dicotone poison the doctor had mentioned in the email. It was a chemical mostly found in pesticides.Â
At work the next day I was tasked with helping Louis revise all the files and documents about the Gatwick case. All the paperwork about Gatwicks misconduct at the company was done all that remained now was to file it.Â
As I went through the documents I noticed the payments and budget recorded were aligning. The payments made to victims far exceeded the budget allocated. I recalled Louis had told me that his family had refused to give him more money for paying out to the victims. And yet, the money the victims had received exceeded the budget. Where had the excess funds come from?Â
That evening after work I went straight to the new apartment. Louis had something to finish off but he had to finish but said he would arrive in time for dinner as well as toÂ
make sure I was well settled into the place.Â
Upon arriving at the apartment I found Tony had also arrived. We greeted each other from outside the apartment buildings.Â
Upon entering our new apartment I found all of my and Tony’s belongings organized neatly in the foyer and living room in the boxes they had been packed in. I wondered when I would get time to organize everything.Â
Tony had homework to do so I told him to get the things he needed most and take them to his room. He wouldn’t have time to organize it all right now.Â
I went to the kitchen and started on dinner. I’d had some groceries delivered to the apartment so I could start cooking with no issues.Â
Louis arrived when the food was around halfway cooked. He had changed out of his suit and wore a more casual outfit of jeans, a shirt, and a jacket.Â
In his arms, he held a bouquet and a bottle of champagne.Â
“Brought you a housewarming gift,” he told me as he handed me the flowers and wine.Â
“Thank you, you didn’t have to though,” I said I took them and placed them on the dining table. Louis then moved towards the living room where the majority of the boxes were.Â
“When do you think you’ll be able to get everything organized?” he asked.Â

“Hopefully the weekend,” I replied. “If I can’t manage I’ll get someone to help.”Â
“If you want I can help you hire some maids,” Louis offered.Â
“It’s okay I’ll be able to manage,” I assured him.Â
When I was Keith’s wife I used to be in charge of hiring new workers for the estate, managing the home’s finances before Diana was made in charge. So I had no problem hiring people myself. I planned to hire my own maid one day anyway.Â
“You already handed in the keys of your old apartment to Chairman Acland, right?” he asked me.Â
“Yeah, I had Henry pass through the Acland HQ last week,” I informed him.Â
“Good,” he replied. “Something smells good what are you making?” he asked.Â
“We’re having filet mignon tonight,” I told himas I led us to the kitchen to show him. I was preparing some bruschetta as a starter, fillet mignon, roast potatoes, and asparagus for the main. For dessert, my cherry pie was in the oven.Â
“Looks delicious,” he commented.Â
When dinner was ready we all sat at the table in the dining room and ate together.Â
“This tastes incredible,” Louis praised my cookingÂ
“Thank you,” I proudly accepted his praise. I felt happy he was enjoying it.Â
“Yeah, it–re–goo–too–mum,” Tony said with his mouthful and I didn’t understand aÂ
word.Â
“Don’t talk with your mouth full Tony,” I told him, as I shook my head.Â
We ate until we were satisfied and then proceeded to talk for a while. Until it was Tony’s bedtime. He had school the following day, so he had to go to bed early.Â
Louis and I took Tony to bed and wished him goodnight. Now it was just Louis and me.Â
“Thank you again for everything, Louis,” I started as we walked away from Tony’s room. “We wouldn’t have found this beautiful apartment without you.”Â
“It’s nothing really,” he shrugged away the praise.Â
“You’re really a kind and humble person,” I told him. “Helping me isn’t the only thingÂ

you’ve done, is it?”Â
“What do you mean?” he asked.Â
“I noticed something in the documents you had me go over at work today. Louis, you’re paying the victims out of pocket aren’t you?” I asked him. “The budget and the company’s spending don’t add up.”Â
His mouth opened in surprise as he looked at me.Â
“Should have known this wouldn’t get past you,” he told me. “A lot of the victims‘Â
families are angry with the company just wanted to make sure the victims got properly compensated and didn’t sue the company.”Â
