JASMINE’S POV

It was on Tuesday that I finally received a response from my father.

I had sent an email to him on Sunday threatening to turn him in for murdering my mother unless he did what I told him to do. I had also made sure to preface my

connection to the Carrington family.

It was around midmorning when I finished a meeting I had to attend with Louis when my father called me, which took me by surprise. The nearest place I would have privacy was an emergency staircase. I went there and I accepted the call and brought the phone up to my ear.

Jasmine what is the meaning of this!his deep rich voice sounded through the phone. It had been years since I had last heard my father’s voice I couldn’t believe I was talking to him.

Hello father it’s rare for you to call me, I’m so hono-I said to him.

Shut up you bitch, how did you get those files! Who gave them to you!!he interrupted me.

My facial expression changed to one of surprise. It really wasn’t rocket science was it? If the files can only be accessed by him and Lawrence, and he hadn’t approved of their release then who else could it be?

They fell out of the sky,I said purely to tick him off.

You disrespectful whore! who do you think you are to talk to me like this?he started. Return those documents now! You always been a quiet submissive doll know your pl

—Listen, father, you know who’s backing me right?I interrupted him reminding him of my Carrington connection. I will turn you in if you refuse to listen me and they will back me up. I already told you this in my email,”

There was a moment of silence. I only heard the background noises in through the phone.

What do you want?he asked reluctantly.

I won’t report anything if you help me,I started. I want you to help me with my divorce from Keith Acland. He want partial custody but I want full custody.”

Uf the Carrington’s are backing you why do you need me?he asked me.

You have to pay for what you did to mother in some way don’t you?I reasoned with him. Obviously that was a lie the Carringtons weren’t back me, just Louis who was the last born. Using him would be the same as using my father. I didn’t want to bother Louis anymore than I had already had but I wouldn’t feel guilty using my father like

this.

However, using him wasn’t the only thing I planned to do him to avenge my mother.

I heard him click his tongue. Fine,he agreed.

But that’s not all,I then said. I also want money.”

What?

I want 20 million dollars on top of the fees you’ll help me with for my divorce.I told him. That alimony I should have gotten from Keith why not get it from my father

instead?

20 million dollars, have you lost your mind?he asked me.

I know you can afford it,” I said to him. Our family company was worth over a 100 million dollars. It wasn’t like the Acland or Carrington companies that were worth billions of dollars but it was still a lot. I knew 20 million would take a lot from his

retirement but I didn’t care.

You little-he started.

—I’d appreciate if you could stop with the namecalling,I said to him.

I thought you were a quiet obedient submisive child when did you become like this?my father asked me.

The minute I had the upper hand,” I simply replied. Now do we have ourselves a deal I said sternly.”

Yes,” my father replied through gritted teeth, I’ll have you I touch with our family lawyers soon. I can also arrange the wiring of the money soon.”

Excellent,I said happy we had an agreement.

That evening when I got home Tony and I did our usual routine. We had dinner, he did

his homework and I took him to bed.

Once I retired to my bedroom for the night I began to go through the folder on Diana that Louis had given to me. I smiled as I thought about Louis. I was so grateful he was helping me with my investigation. It helped me with my workload since I had so much to do; work, my father, he divorce, etc. It was nice not to worry about too many things.

I opened the file and began to read through the countless documents on Diana.

It contained everything about her life that was known. The first couple of pages were about Diana’s early life. How and where she grew up, basic information.

I planned to thoroughly go through them and see if there anything unusual I could find.

**

The following day at work I doing my best to be focused I couldn’t wait to get home and conti ue looking into Diana.

It was just after lunch and and so I was counting the hours away until I could get home. A knock at my office door had me look up and found Louis standing in the doorway.

Ms Towers,” he said to me.

Mr Carrington, how can I help you?I asked him he held a laptop in his arm. I thought he perhaps wanted to show me something.

Without responding he went to the seating area of my office. My eyebrows sprang up as I wondered what he was doing. Is everything alright?

I shook my head. We agreed to obviously keep our relationship a secret but he seemed to be trying to break rules.

You seem to be making yourself comfortable,I commented.

Of course,” he said as he opened his laptop and had his legs lie on the couch as well.

What are you doing here?I asked.

Do I need a reason to see my employees?he coolly answered.

So you just go around going inside your employeesoffices and sit in their sitting areas for no reason?I asked.

If I have to, yes,he answered.

I shook my head in disapproval. This man liked to play around I thought. I then looked back at my desk and planned to go back to work. I would just ignore Louis. Then I looked at some documents on my desk which I had planned to give him soon.

Well then since you’re here anyway, might as well share with you an idea I have.” I told him.

An idea?he asked as I gathered some documents from my desk and made my way towards him.

I sat on the couch closest to him and placed the documents on the table.

So, in the time since I’ve started working here, learning about the company and going through the company documents ive been thinking.I started.

Yes?he started wondering where this was going.

I’ve been thinking about how the Carrington group has significantly reduced the garden house’s budget because they intend for the business to slowly fail and shut down. And when the restaurant closes a lot of people are going to lose their job. From my time working at the restaurant I would hate to see my former workmates

I thought of Megan, Mike, the passionate chefs and the manager, people I had grown to care for. My arms reached out on the table to open up the folder.

So I began to think what if we could do to find a way to stop the restaurant from closing,” I went on.

Louiseyes sprang up.

Jasmine I understand where you’re coming from and I also hate the fact a lot of people will lose their jobs but this is beyond me. My family will be shutting down the restaurant,Louis explained.

I know but your family isn’t going to shut down the restaurant themselves they are waiting for it to close down with time as business dwindles and just reduced the budget so they don’t make any loses in the till that time comes. So what if the restaurant didn’t fail?

Louis eyes then narrowed in confusion. I’m not sure I follow,he said.

What if we improvise? Since we can’t change the budget, what if we instead change

the menu? The biggest challenge the restaurant is facing causing the loss of customers is the declining quality of the food.

I recalled the chefs mentioning how they were using lower quality ingredients to make

the dishes on the menu.

I then showed the pages of the budget of the menu and the plan I had printed out for what we could do.

There are over a hundred dishes on the menu, many of them using different ingredients specific to those dishes. If the menu is reduced for example to 40 dishes instead not only will we spend less after such a big cut, but also we can increase the quality of the ingredients. This can be a good start way to earn back customers.”

When I finished I looked at him with hopeful eyes hoping he would consider what I

said.
