167 Robert Carrington Snr 2Â
“She has no credentials nor does she have any work experience for this role!” Robert complained.Â
“She is fit for the job. She has proven herself to be capable of taking it on,” I defended Jasmine,Â
“Oh god, please. In what delusional world do you think we are in? Just tell the truth and say that you hired her to have your little affair at work,” Robert pressed me.Â
I was about to snap back at Robert when our father spoke up.Â
“I’m also told you’ve recently changed the menu of the restaurant,” my father said.Â
“Yes, I did,” I replied surprised he knew about this. I had given reports to Robert and Vincent since they were my superiors but I never anticipated that my father was awareÂ
as well.Â
“Whose idea was it?” he asked. His tone of voice was vague I couldn’t tell if he was angry or not. Should I say it was me and take the blame in case Jasmine got in trouble?Â
“It was my idea,” Jasmine spoke up before I could answer. “Please don’t blame Louis forÂ
what I did.‘Â
“You see, she’s influencing his decisions. Even though he’s the CEO, he’s too naive and gullible. We’re lucky he’s running a business meant to shut down in the future because who takes advice from someone uneducated and implements it?” Robert talked downÂ
to me.Â
“Thats not true, I assessed the idea and thought it would be a worthwhile experiment,” I defended my choice in taking on Jasmine’s idea. “And watch how you speak aboutÂ
her.”Â
I checked him for talking down on her. I mean that’s how he was with everyone. “And what exactly do you two to aim to achieve from this?” my father asked Jasmine and me.Â
“Well the budget for the restaurant is low in anticipation for its shutdown,” I started. “But in the meantime it’ll be making losses which we thought was a waste.”Â
“So we thought, what if we could find a way to provide high–quality food to customersÂ

at a cheaper cost to try and generate more profits. If the restaurant can pick itself back up it can prevent the mass employment that would occur if the restaurant was shut down,” Jasmine continued.Â
My father studied Jasmine and I for a moment.Â
“Mrs Acland/Ms Towers,” my father then addressed Jasmine. “What drew to my son and to make him give you the job?”Â
“Actually, I am the one who approached Ms Towers‘ father and I asked her to work for me.” I quickly stepped in and answered. “Look, if any of what has happened I’m sorry however, I stand by my actions. I will not make Ms Towers resign and if that’s a problem then I myself will resign,” I know my answer was very rash but I couldn’t think of anything else to say.Â
“Louis, no,” Jasmine whispered in disbelief. “What are you saying?”Â
“Dont worry,” I tried reassure her.Â
My father cocked an eyebrow at me. “I’ve never known you to be one who argues against orders they are given.”Â
I maintained eye contact with my father though I was shitting bricks inside. I had to stand on my decision. I wasn’t going to give in to my brother’s orders, especially since it’s Keith who had caused all this in the first place. I had to help I had saved a couple of millions anyway I think if something else to do.Â
My father then looked at my hand that held Jasmine’s before he scoffed before he brought a hand to his chin as he contemplated. I was in trouble trouble now.Â
“I want to see the results of this new menu idea,” my father announced. “Since it’s the two of you that came up with it I want you two to continue.”Â
For a second I wondered if I heard right. Then it finally clicked.Â
“What?!” Robert and I said in surprise at the same time.Â
“You heard me,” my father said.Â
My father….was supporting me? There was no way. I was so sure was going to tell me to either fire Jasmine or leave.Â
“But father this is ridiculous soneone who doesn’t even have a degree or work experience cannot have the position,” Robert complained. “Not to mention we don’t want to have a bad relationship with the Ackand group.”Â

“If we can make profits whilst saving money is this not a worthwhile idea?” continued.Â
“What do you say to that, Ms Towers?” my father then asked her.Â
“She is “I tried to answer on her behalf.Â
“I can answer,” Jasmine shut me down as she squeezed my hand. I glanced at her as looked at my father.Â
“I may not have the formal the credentials required for the job but I am a hard worker and quick learner. I have learned so much for the role and I care about the restaurant. Also, if the company is set to be shut down soon then whether I’m fit for the role of not us completely irrelevant anyway isn’t it?” she explained.Â
“I see,” my father replied.Â
“But they are in a romantic relationship, father! Isn’t that a conflict of interest?” Robert pressed on. As usual, he was always trying to but in. I thought to myself trying not to punch him.Â
“As long as you aren’t misbehaving at the office it should be fine,” my father said to Jasmine and I.Â
“No, no one at the HQ knows. we keep it professional,” I assured my father. I was feeling so confused however. My father was actually… listening to me.Â
“Good, I want an update on this project of yours and I’ll have further updates for you then given the outcome,” my father told me. My eyebrows perked up at that. An update?Â
“But father-,” Robert complained again.Â
“Robert you have work do concerning the ‘last project‘ don’t you?” my father said to Robert.Â
Robert froze and a disgruntled expression appeared on his face.Â
“Good. You’re all dismissed,” my father then said to us. Robert mutter under his breath angrily as he walked out of the office.Â
“Yes, father,” Robert and I said.Â
“Yes, Chairman Carrington,” Jasmine replied.Â
