LOUIS‘ POVÂ
**Â
**Â
The large flames of the fireplace did most of the lighting in the my family and I wereÂ
“Well done Robert!” my mother congratulated my brother as she hugged him. “Six A’s and two B’s for this semesters report card is incredible!”Â
“I told you hiring the best tutor would help him,” my father said as he sat reading a news paperÂ
“I also got an A on my report card,” I tried to get my parents‘ attention. In actual fact I had a better report card than Robert. I actually had all A’s on my semester report card but all their focus was on Robert.Â
“Oh, good work,” my mother said barely looking at me.Â
“What do think we should celebrate for Robert, shouldn’t we?” my mother said to him. ” special celebration for the special heir.”Â
“Yes, we should I’m so proud of you,” my father said.Â
Robert’s face was beaming as he proudly took in the praise.Â
I watched the three with a sad and confused expression. From the corner of my eye I saw something waving in my direction. My gaze shifted to where the movement came from and saw my older sister who was seated quietly on a couch in the corner of the room. She held out her hand indicating she wanted me to go to her.Â
As my parents and brother had their ‘moment‘ I went to my sister who made space onÂ
her seat and I sat next to her.Â
“Ignored again?” she asked me.Â
I nodded my head and felt like crying.Â
“Don’t worry. I know exactly how you feel,” she told as she put her arm around me and hugged me. “Unfortunately, you’ll get used to it.”Â
She then took my report and then held out her own, putting them side by side.Â
“Look at that we both got all A’s,” she said to me. “Well done, Louis.”Â

“Thanks Angela,” I thanked her. “Well done to you too.”Â
“Thank you,” she said as she ruffled my hair with her hand.Â
That was my life for as long as I can remember. At some point I just got used to it as my sister had told me, To question or go against Robert was completely useless unless you wanted to feel stupid. My sister fortunately made things a lot bearable since she completely understood how I felt.Â
***Â
“Mum, can we got the amusement park?” I would ask my mother.Â
“Can we go to the cinema?” Robert would ask my mother directly after.Â
“Let’s go to the cinema,” my mother would then say.Â
***Â
“Dad, it wasn’t me who took your cuffs for your suit, I promise,” I said to my father.Â
“Robert says he saw you,” he told me.Â
Meanwhile Robert was in a corner snickering, knowing damn well he had lied to father.Â
“Do as he says,” my father told me.Â
All these little incidents piled up over the years and my resent grew. It was always Roberts this, Robert that.Â

I left my father’s office feeling confused and dumbfounded. Why was my father entertaining me? All this time my father has acted as if Robert was the only child he had. Completely ignoring my existence for the most part. And yet he listened to what Jasmine and I had to say today and even disregarded what Robert had to say to him. So out of character.Â
Sure the idea Jasmine had put forwardvwas a potentially lucrative one but the restaurant had inky just implemented it. The experiment was still in the early stages though and we couldn’t say for certain how things would end.Â
As soon as we were out of the office Robert turned to Jasmine and I.Â
“Father has made a mistake! You’re going to mess us our reputation up with this woman who is rumored to be crazy and messing with the Acland group,” Robert saidÂ

grumpily.Â
“You sound like a spoiled brat,” I said to him. Because you are one. I said to myself internally.Â
“What!?” he said in agitation.Â
“That’s enough you two! unless you want the chairman to call us back for causing a commotion,” Jasmine said breaking up the fight.Â
Robert glared at Jasmine as if he wanted to retortbthen held himself back. His glare then shifted to me before he clicked his tongue and left Jasmine and I.Â
“I see your brother is still a dick after all these years,” Jasmine commented as we watched him walk away.Â
“I’m sorry about the way Robert spoke to you in there. He was very dismissive and rude towards you.” I apologized to her on Robert’s behalf. “I’m sorry you were kidnapped by him as well,” I added.Â
“I’m sorry for the way he speaks to you,” she said.Â
“Well, I’m used to it,” I said unfazed. Though Robert and I’s conversations up until now were pretty formal when all the time he could be rude at times. I mean he took advantage of our parents favoritism growing up to play tricks on me.Â
“I’m just glad I wasn’t fired. Your father is scary,” Jasmine commented. “I thought for sure I was a goner.”Â
“Yeah, I know,” I replied.Â
“I also can’t believe you threatened to quit on my behalf, are you crazy?!” she asked in disbelief.Â
“I’m used to having to do my brother’s requests. I can never push back and I’m tired of it. I wanted to stand for something for once,” I told her.Â
As we reached the elevator which fortunately wasn’t blocked this time.Â
“I wonder what’s happening at the HQ I said as we waited for the elevator tonÂ
Jasmine didn’t answer however. I looked at her.Â
I saw she was staring at one of the employees, a woman who had walked past. Jasmine seemed almost bothered as she looked at this woman.Â

“Jasmine, what’s wrong?” I asked her.Â
She looked back at me in surprise. “Oh nothing!” she replied.Â
My eyebrows raised as I wondered why the woman had captured her interest that much. Had they talked before?Â
