JASMINE’S POV

Keith was annoying me even more in this moment. I could feel his gaze on me as we worked.

I was already feeling irritable from visiting the Acland estate. Seeing that mansion again unlocked so many painful memories of my past life with Keith.

Tony’s toy giraffe, which was on the couch beside me, was the only thing keeping me calm enough to at least go through the documents.

Let me ask you one thing, though,I then spoke up.

Keith looked up from his work.

What does your father think of the fact that you’re keeping me? Does he know you have a conservatorship over me?I asked curiously.

There was a pause as we stared at each other.

I told him we’re working through things as we find Tony,” he told me with a straight face.

Keith’s father was just as bad as Keith in how he viewed women as disposable. He probably didn’t care what Keith did.

We then went to have lunch at noon, and when we returned to the office, one of Keith’s bodyguards entered the office and handed Keith a pile of folders. They were the current suspects list we had made.

Keith was having his bodyguards obtain information rather than company employees due to uncertainty with his employees. So he was sure the information he requested was tampered with, he made his bodyguards he trusted do it.

Keith talked to the bodyguard briefly before he stood up and came to me.

These are the files on all the employees who worked on the finance documents,he said, handing me the folders. Basically, the entire finance department, former and current employees, as well as Edward, my assistant. I have men watching them now as

well.”

My eyes narrowed as I looked at them; one or more of them must be the culprit. I looked at all the names I had written down in my notes, and I could finally gain context. Finally, we had some suspects

The only advantage of being with Keith thus far. But we were yet to find any inconsistencies in the financial records.

As I continued working, I couldn’t stop thinking about meeting with Keith’s father, and it reminded me to recall the relationship they had and what Keith had told me early in our marriage.

As I worked, a thought came to mind, and I continued to consider it.

I took some more files back to the estate so I could continue working the same as yesterday.

Once at Keith’s estate, I went to my room where the nurse checked on me, I cleaned and an hour later had dinner with Keith in the dining room again. It bothered me that it was becoming a little bit of a routine. Like he was actually making us into a family again. Why? You just want me here to save your reputation and you can look good to the public whilst we’re going through this. So why are you doing all this extra stuff?

However, I would use the moment to my advantage. I was working with him to gain information after all.

What do you think of your brother?I asked him what had been going through my mind in the office earlier today. I recalled his father had put a baby on his mother. Kolton was his name, if I recalled correctly. Keith’s halfbrother. It had been years since I saw him, just like their fatheri had almost forgotten he existed.

Excuse me?Keith asked me to repeat.

Kolton, your halfbrother,I gave him more details. Have you thought of considering him a suspect?”

He stiffened slightly, and I swallowed, wondering how he would take it.

I knew Kolton was a soft spot for him. Keith had informed me about his parentsdivorce early in our marriage. I knew his father’s infidelity, not just with Kolton’s mother but other women, had driven his mother to divorce him. I know how badly the divorce affected Keith and how awful he felt for his mother. The two halfbrothers weren’t close and hardly talked to each other. They did not have a good relationship with each other. Which might serve as a motive for Kolton.

Why do you suspect him?Keith asked me.

He’s your only sibling, he kind of looks like you, and we know Marco looks similar to you,” I explained my theory, which sounded crazy as I said it. It was circumstantial, but it wasn’t unfounded. If Kolton was actually Marco’s father, how insane would that be? Considering the life Diana lived in Kensington, that would imply he had been at it for years. I think he was around my age.

How I wished that DNA test had been successful so I could confirm Marco’s biological

parents.

Keith contemplated the idea for a moment.

I see where you’re coming from. How would he get access to the HQ’s document? He works in a subsidiary company; he’s based in another city. We don’t have a close relationship,he told me.

All I’m saying is it doesn’t hurt to check out all the possibilities. We barely know anything about the culprit because of how well they cover their tracks,I told him. Adding Kolton to the list of possible suspects doesn’t mean we’re blaming him.”

That’s fine, we also don’t want to make baseless accusations and frame innocent people,” he told me. I will get a folder done on him, and we can go through it.He told

  1. me.

Good,I said. I don’t think that Keith is necessarily trying to protect Kolton, more so, he wants to avoid creating drama in the family in case he is wrong.

Keith finished his food first and got up from his seat at the table. Try not to stay up too late working,” he then said to me.

You looked tired today and yesterday. Remember, it’s important to rest and give yourself energy so you can work properly,he told me.

Okay, Dad. Whatever you say,” I mocked him.

He let out a sigh. If this continues, I’ll have to change this arrangement of you taking files home to work through them.”

I glared as I watched him leave the dining room, then I continued eating. It was still difficult to eat, but I had to do it.
