232 You will be the acting CEO 

“As you all know, I am yet to pass the torch and finally make the official announcement on who will become the heir of the Carrigton group,” My father continued. 1 

Robert straightened up in his seat, adjusting his suit as he arrogantly looked around te 

room. 

I rolled my eyes. We get it, Robert, your time has come. Did we all need to be here for this announcement? 

It has been obvious to me and everyone that from the moment Robert was born he was the one to take over the company. 

My father’s lips parted once more. ” I would like to let you know that the time I will reveal my decision will come soon,” he said. “In the meantime, I would like to announce that Louis will be acting CEO of the Carrington group for the tie being and Robert will be trasfered to another section of the company.” 2 

There was a pause of silence in the room as everyone seemed to process what our father had just said. My lips parted and y eyes widened. 

“What?!” Robert yelled out hysterically. A look of horror and shock was on his face wondering if he had heard right. To be fair I thought the same too. 

“Dear what are you saying?” My mother then spoke up. “You’ve always alluded that Robert was going to be the heir so whats going on all of a sudden? Why would you make Louis work in the ” 

“I know but now I want to make a final test. At the end of the day I want whats best for the company and what will lead to our growth and expansion. Louis my 

“You can’t do this father this is my birthright!” He said standing up from his seat. 

Angela then burst out laughing loudly in amusement. “There…is no…way,” she said in–between laughs. 

“This was promised to me! You can’t do this!” Robert continued. 

“Angela, stop laughing, this isn’t funny,” my mother said to her in disappointment. 

That only made Angela laugh even more, as if unable to control it. 

“Rober,t why are you doing this? Why would you embarrass your only s-” my mother

caught herself.“-Your firstborn like this?” She asked my father. 

“Louis has done something unexpected in the last two months. I would like to see how he can implement his ideas at a larger scale,” My father explained the reasoning behind 

his actions. 

“You’re saying because of some fluke at that restaurant that is supposed to close down soon. A subsidiary, you’re going to make him the CEO of the whole company?” Robert asked in disbelief. 

“You’re all being very dramatic. I didn’t say Louis was taking over the company. I just said he will be working alongside me at the HQ for now,” My father explained. 

“But you know how it looks, making him work at the HQ and pushing me out as opposed to having him work in another section of the company,” Robert complained. “It makes it look like you’re making him your heir.” 

I remained silent throughout this whole ordeal. Despite all the arguing. My father wanted me to work at the HQ… 

How unexpected. So that’s why he let the situation with Jasmine of the hook that time. I knew he was intrigued by the new menu idea we had put in place, but it wasn’t successful yet. Making a profit saved me, apparently.

I can’t talk to all of you like this, my father said as he got up. my mother and Robert followed after him to question his decision. 

“You’ve made a complete fool of Robert now,” my mother said on her way out. Robert’s wife and child followed after them. 

I continued to hear the argument even after the sitting room doors closed after they 

left. 

Soon, Angela’s laughter was all that remained in the room, as it was just the two of us left in the sitting room. 

“Oh my god, I could die. Did you see Robert’s face?” Angela said as her laughter slowly 

her died down. She took out a tissue and brought it to her eyes as she wiped away tears. “This is the best family dinner I’ve had in years.” She said. 

I looked at her, still silent. 

“Congratulations, Louis,” my sister said. “I don’t know what’s come over our father, but I’m glad he’s seen the light.”

“I don’t get it, though,” I said as she said. “Why does the success of the garden house. Something small in comparison to the size of the company makes him want to make me the acting CEO?” 

“Because Robert isn’t so great as CEO,” Angela told me. “He’s been making mistakes for a minute now and messed up a big project recently. Father’s furious about it. Don’t you know?” 

“Really?” I asked in surprise. I never kept up with the issues of the Carrington. 

“I mean, we’ve both known for a long time that their coddling of Robert was going to be a problem for the company. Looks like father has finally realised that,” Angela explained. “I think you would make a great Chairwoman.” 

“What about you? Why won’t you pitch yourself?” I said. Angela certainly had potential 

as well. 

“Oh god, no. My husband’s already chairmain himself, and that’s a busy schedule he has. I work in managing the national,” she continued. “I need time for the kids. Becoming chairman will be too much.” 

“I guess so,” I replied. Angela had moved to another city after getting married, it was the city where her husband’s company was based. 

“So will you take the position?” she asked me. 

“I don’t know. I’m still processing everything,” I told her. 

I contemplated for a moment. It’s not like I wanted the Carrington company all to myself. I just wanted my parents to treat me and Angela like we exist, and aren’t spare children. I didn’t know how to feel about this offer. It’s so sudden more than I could have asked for. 

“Well, I think you should,” she encouraged me. My eyes met hers and saw the sincerity in them. 

However, if I accepted this opportunity, I would have more power to help Jasmine and find Tony. And that sounded like a sweet deal to me.
