My heart began racing as my eyes glanced at open elevator doors. I stayed extremely still with the sole bodyguard beside me. The elevator then chimed indicating that the doors were about to close. Without thinking my legs moved and I immediately rushed out at the last second. Mrs Acland!I heard the voice of the bodyguard behind me ye out. The elevator doors were about midway from closing when I managed to slip through.

A sharp pain shot through my leg from the sudden movement to get out of the elevator. It was easier to walk around now, but it still hurt.

I turned and looked back at the elevator that continued. I left rather impulsively. I’d really done it now.

I just wanted a break from being constantly watched 24/7. My mind immediately begar to race as I contemplated what to do next.

I looked down at my handbag that I always carried around with me. I had my notes tha I wrote down all the details of the investigation in the bag. I could try to run away but I still hadn’t collected enough information.

As much as I hated Keith, at the very least he was cooperative in helping to find Tony. I knew if I worked with him I was sure I would eventually find out who Tony’s

kidnappers were.

For Tony’s sake, I was willing to put up with it. SoI was going to stay,

I let an exhausted. I hated that I even had to think like this. So what to do with this temporary freedom?

There was one thing I wanted to do. Something Keith was clearly never going to allow me to do. I quickly started moving away from the elevator, the bodyguards were going to come back to check for me. I just needed some time, 20 to 30 minutes at least before Keith found me. And I knew they were going to find me.

As for Keith’s reaction when he eventually catches mewell, that was a problem for later. At the very least I knew he wouldn’t drag me around or scream at me. Walked down the hallway of the floor as company employees walked down it as well. I carefully I looked up at the ceilings and found the cameras on every floor. I wouldn’t be able to run far before I was caught.

I reached the door to the Buildings staircase. the door and began to go down the steps. To delay the bodyguards I had to go to a different floor I knew the bodyguards were going to check the floor I got of from first.

My foot and ankle hurt a little bit since I was rushing but I brushed the pain aside.

Using the stairs reminded me of the time with Tony on the emergency staircase at the distribution centre which made me a little depressed.

I went down several flights of stairs and then after about 6 levels I went to the nearest door and opened it to enter the floor.

I looked through the different rooms I passed by all different offices with employees working inside I needed to find a phone. Should I ask a random person I thought to myself? As I looked at all the employees moving around in the hallway. Just as I was about to decide who to ask for a phone I reached the open door to an empty office. Immediately I stopped moving and looked into the office my eyes glanced at the desk. Next to the desktop was a telephone. That could work too, I thought to myself.

If I tried asking some of the employees for their phone, I wasn’t sure if they would refuse or accept this however, this was a better alternative.

I got into the office and locked the door behind me. This should buy me a little more time. I then went to the glass walls of the office attached to the door and covered the blinds so no one could see inside the office.

I ran to the desk and picked up the telephone, I then dialed Louis number trying my best to remember it. I hoped I got it right because I wouldn’t have another chance anytime soon if it didn’t work.

My heart began to beat heavily in my chest. Please tell me I got the number right,” I hoped.

After a moment the line began to ring. That told me the phone number was real. After several seconds that felt like ages, someone finally answered. My heart almost stopped beating.

Louis!I yelled into the phone hoping to at least hear his voice after weeks no contact.

Hello?A voice

My mouth went dry and blood ran cold at the sound of the voice. That wasn’t Louis. It was a woman’s voice. The voice sounded

Sorry, perhaps I dialled the wrong number,I said. Maybe I made a mistake after all.

You said you wanted to speak with Mr Louis Carrington?”

My eyes widened in shock.

This was Louispersonal phone why was this person answering it? And a woman no

less.

AI’m sorry but who are you?Was all I could bring myself to ask.

Leighanne Sommers, his assistant,” she told me, she sounded young and wellspoken.

A shiver ran down my spine. His assistant? Louis had a new assistant already. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised it had been two weeks already with no contact from me. Louis didn’t have a lot to work with, so I couldn’t blame him but still…

Ah, yes, I would like to speak with Mr Carrington,I replied.

He’s in the middle of an important meeting right now and left his phone, she told me. I answered to let you know this and call back later. She replied in a sweet voice.

My eyebrows scrunched up in suspicion. It still wasn’t her phone so she had no business answering his personal calls. And anyway I can’t call later. If he wasn’t available now I wouldn’t be able to call back.

Do you know when he’ll be done?I asked.
