33 Careless MistakeÂ
It had been years since I’d seen Louis. In my past life I saw the Carringtons at socialite events but I didn’t recall ever seeing Louis. I would see his father, his older brother and sister. His elder brother took over the company in future.Â
The last time I saw Louis was when I was 19 and he was 13. Just before I got married.Â
I looked at him once more. If I was 29 now then that meant he was around 23 now.Â
Would he recognize me? I asked myself. He couldn’t possibly recognize me, it had been years since we’d seen each other. Not to mention he was a child at the time. It would be like that other times with the other diners.Â
I followed Josh’s suit and we placed all the plates on the table. I kept my head down and tried not to make too much contact. I started with the side of the man I didn’t know and went round to the assistant then finally to Louis side. My head was still down as I began to place his drink on the table. However an I suddenlyÂ
As I finished putting everything down I finally came round to Louis side put down his plate and then I looked at him and was completely caught of guard when I found him staring at me too. It seemed like a clear look of recognition. He knew who I was.Â
My hands then shook in panic and the glass fell from my hands.Â
“Jasmine!” I then heard Josh call out to me.Â
I looked down and realised I’d spilled the drink all over Louis. My eyes widened in horror as the glass fell to the floor and broke into three distinct pieces.Â
“Oh my goodness!” I said in surprise.Â
Louis also looked down at his suit as if just realising what I had done.Â
“I’m so sorry,” I apologised to Louis as I knelt and picked up the broken glass from the floor.Â
“What is wrong with you!? Are you paying attention?!” The supervisor beside Louis yelled at me.Â
“I’m so sorry,” I apologised profusely once again to Louis. I took a napkin on the table to try clean up the spilled juice.Â
What had I done? I asked myself. I had been so distracted by Louis‘ gaze on me. Looks IÂ

didn’t have to worry about being found out. I was already going to be fired for my incompetence.Â
“It’s alright,” Louis said to me in a calm voice. It was a deep, stern but gentle voice all at the same time.Â
“Do you know how much a suit like this costs you stupi-” the assistant continued to yell at me.Â
“Calm down Andrew, there’s no need to scare her. The ” Louis interrupted him. “And you’re making our guest feel uncomfortable.”Â
Andrew frowned as he bit his lip in frustration. As if he was fighting not to say more toÂ
- me.Â
The guest being the man they having the meeting with Louis and Andrew. He awkwardly stared at the situation before him.Â
“Excuse me for a moment I’m going to clean up and we can resume?” Louis explained to the guest.Â
“Yes, of course Mr Carrington,” the man said.Â
I was in the middle of trying to clean up some of juice on his suit. He then gently grabbed my hand. I looked up and met his golden eyes.Â
“It’s okay, I’ll clean up myself,” he told me.Â
I felt heat rush up my cheeks as I nodded and moved away from him. I got up from the floor with a tray containing the broken glass.Â
Louis got up and calmly left the room.Â
“Have this cleaned up properly,” Andrew ordered Josh and I. Though Andrew looked like he wanted to continue yelling at me but couldn’t because of the guest.Â
“Yes, sir,” Josh and I responded.Â
“Come on,” Josh said to me.Â
I left the room feeling numb. I’d really done it now I thought to myself. So much for not fucking up. Great. I guess I would have to solely focus on what I could do with my 50,000. I was going to lose my job.Â
We reached the kitchens and the manager turned to me having been informed of theÂ
situation.Â

“Jasmine, what the hell?” My manager yelled at me. “I thought I told you not to fuck up and you go right ahead and do it?” He asked me.Â
“I know I’m sorry Manager,” I said to him. “I wasn’t paying attention.” I explained to him.Â
The manager sighed. “The problem is Mr Gatwick, the CEO’s assistant, isn’t going to let this slide easily,” he said to me.Â
I remembered the way he was in the room. He looked like he was just about ready toÂ
have me thrown out if it weren’t for Louis.Â
“It’s fine I’ll finish the rest of their service and I’ll handle the situation and see if I can get him to let the situation go. Finish off serving in the main dining area in the meanÂ
time,” he instructed me.Â
“Yes, sir,” I accepted.Â
I then proceeded to finish of lunch service. After lunch service the manager and Andrew came and gathered all the staff in the kitchen,Â
“As you know there was an incident with the CEO this afternoon,” he said. “One of you idiots stupidly and carelessly spilled a drink on the CEO and no less during a very important business meeting.” He eyes narrowed as they landed on me.Â
A shiver ran down my spine and I stepped forward. “I’m so sorry sir,” I apologised toÂ
Andrew.Â
“Save it,” he said to me and held his hand for me to stop. “You are extremely lucky the CEO has decided to overlook the incident because I would have had you fired,” he spatÂ
at me.Â
Well he certainly hated me I thought to myself. He was so rude and crass with his comments. So I wasn’t getting fired? I thought to myself.Â
