34 After shift meet upÂ
JASMINES POV 1Â
“Save it,” he said to me and held his hand for me to stop. “You are extremely lucky the CEO has decided to overlook the incident because I would have had you fired,” he spatÂ
at me.Â
Well he certainly hated me I thought to myself. He was so rude and crass with his comments. So I wasn’t getting fired? I thought to myself.Â
“Michael, why didn’t you have a younger more pleasing waitress serve us,” he said to the manager and then winked at Megan. Megan’s expression then changed to one of visible disgust after that comment.Â
“At least if she made a mistake her innocence would be more easy to forgive.” AndrewÂ
went on. 1Â
That comment left a bad taste in in my mouth. Andrew looked like he was in late 40’s and Megan was literally 20. How disgusting.Â
“I apologise Mr Gatwick,” the manager said to him. “I swear that an incident like this won’t happen again.”Â
Andrew, Mr Gatwick scoffed at that. “Make sure to hire competent people,” he said to the manager.Â
After yelling for a while Andrew then left the kitchens to join Louis who had already left after their lunch meeting.Â
“I hate that guy,” Megan commented once he left.Â
“Mr Gatwick isn’t my favourite person either but we have no choice but to appease him. “Alright, lunch break for everyone and we start dinner preparations.” He announced.Â
The manager then turned to me.” Luckily the CEO was gracious and understanding of the situation and calmed Mr Gatwick who was ready to have you fired.”Â
“I’m grateful to the CEO then,” I said.Â
I wanted to sigh in relief at the fact that I hadn’t been fired but I was still wary of Louis who definitely recognized me. I couldn’t get the look of recognition out of my mind. IÂ

didn’t see him again after he left the room to clean up.Â
**Â
A few hours later and it was the end of my shift. As I left the restaurant and began to make my way to collect Tony, I couldn’t stop thinking about the incident with Louis earlier. What was going to happen to me now? I thought to myself.Â
It was as I walked down the street that I noticed a sedan car parked at the end of street. It caught my eye because I saw the person in the driver seat staring at me. I approached the back door opened and a figure stepped out. At first I wasn’t sure if I was seeing right. The dark hair, the golden eyes, sun–kissed tan skin. It was Louis.Â
Shit. Speak of the Devil I stopped walking and stared at him in disbelief. After todays mishap I didn’t know if could face him.Â
I wanted to run away but he had already seen me. I wondered what he was doing here and whom he was waiting for. He seemed to be staring at me… was he here to see me? I thought to myself. No way. However, he was clearly looking at me. This couldn’t be good I thought to myself.Â
I noticed he was wearing a new suit so he had left the restaurant and changed, thenÂ
returned?Â
I reached the end of the street and stood in front of him. I looked up at him and took note of our significant height difference. To think the boy who was so small back then would tower over me dramatically like this.Â
He had grown into quite the fine young man. In his expensive suit, he had the look of a CEO self–important, confident and well dressed.Â
Not to mention he was quite handsome. He also was no longer chubby either, firm muscles showed underneath the suit. So funny, he looked like the kid I remember butÂ
also not at the same time.Â
I was staring at him I realised. I had to say something or I would look weird.Â
“Mr Carrington,” I greeted him. “I apologise again for this afternoon.”Â
I immediately said to him.Â
“Oh, don’t worry about that,” he said to me. His voice was different from how he’d sounded in the private dining room. Less serious, more casual and friendly.Â

“Jasmine… is that you?” Louis asked me. My eyes softened at the confirmation that he he did know who I was.Â
I didn’t say anything for a moment. Should I lie to him? I thought to myself. I looked up into his eyes I had already ruined his suit. There was no point being embarrassed now. Besides, he could simply verify the truth himself later.Â
Yes, it’s me,” I told him the truth but couldn’t meet his eyes.Â
“I don’t know if you recognise me,” he went on.Â
“I–I remember you Louis,” I said slowly letting him know I hadn’t forgotten him.Â
“Wow, I’m glad. It’s been years,” he started. “I never imagined I’d see you again, and in a place like this,” he responded.Â
“Neither did I,” I told him. I couldn’t bring myself to meet his eyes. I’m sure he had the same look I always received from other socialites whenever they saw me.Â
There was a moment of silence between us. I continued to feel his gaze on me.Â
I still couldn’t bring myself to look at him. I was scared to see the judgement in his face. In the socialite world I was viewed as a woman so crazy and jealous her husband kicked her out of the house. It’s probably how he saw me as well.Â
I began to think of all the possible reasons he had come to see me. Was he going to say he had a problem with me working at the company?Â
“Jasmine…,” he started. My body froze when he said my name. I knew he was going to ask the questions I dreaded. “May I ask where you’re headed now?” he then asked me.Â
“I have to pick up my son from school and then go home,” I informed him.Â
“You’re going to pick him up on your own?” He asked me in disbelief.Â
“Yes,” I slowly responded. Now he knew I didn’t have a driver. I was feeling more and more embarrassed the more I talked to him.Â
