Heat rose in my cheeks in embarrassment as I recalled drinking more than I should have and then my words slurring when I spoke. Everything else pretty much became a blur after that. 1 

“I’m so sorry,” I apologized appalled by my behaviour. Suddenly, I wanted to disappear as I recalled drinking the wine like crazy, then crying on him. He must think I’m a crazy, bothersome woman. I thought to myself. 

“I should probably go,” I said as I moved to get out of bed and get dressed. 

“Hang on Jasmine, we’re not finished here,” he said to me and blocked my path. 

I looked up at him with raised eyebrows wondering why. My head throbbed even more as I moved to the edge of the bed and I almost fell off.

You also shouldn’t be moving around this much,” he told me.“Not while you’re still hungover,” he chided me. He then helped me sit back up on the bed. He took the jug of water from the bedside table and poured it into the glass beside it. 

“Here drink,” he ordered. I did as he said. 1 

I felt like a child being taken care of by a parent. Which felt ironic considering I was older.

You told me you have something important to tell me.” he reminded me. 

“Oh, yes,” I said once I put the glass of water down. 

“From what you told me 

told me yesterday, it’s not safe for you to go home,” he told me. 

“What?” I asked surprised I didn’t remember having told him about Diana. 

“So, is it true?” he asked me. 

“What did I tell you last night? I don’t remember much since I was drunk,” I asked him. I remember saying random things about Keith and then passing out at some point. I recalled coming to from time to time and seeing Louis holding me. 

At the time I thought it was a dream, but now I realise he really was carrying me. I felt so bad. Having to burden Louis this much last night. 

“I couldn’t follow everything you were saying since it was mostly a slur and you were

crying, but I know you were afraid,” he told me gently. “You’re in some kind of trouble 

“Well, yes,” I started. “I don’t feel safe at the home my son and I are staying… 

I then explained my situation to him properly. Diana framing me and always trying to make me look like the villain as she victimizes herself. I explained to him, how Keith never believes me and takes her side. 

“…I’m divorcing him so I won’t have to be in any situations with Keith or Diana. I handed him the papers on Friday.” I finished off. 

Louis was quiet the entire time I spoke just listening to me. 

“I would like to ask you for help, please protect me from Diana,” I asked him. 

“Jasmine this situation is insane, Louis spoke up for the first time. “Your situation is even worse than I imagined. I knew I should have been more assertive back then on that afternoon we met. I should have taken you then,” he told me. 

I recalled when I had initially rejected his help so as not to worry him. 

Louis contemplated for a moment. 

“If the chairman’s mistress is making threats to such an extent then I think you and your son should stay here with me for a while,” he said to me. 

We’d be living with him in his apartment? I wondered in surprise. 

“Louis that’s too much we wouldn’t want to intrude on your space,” I started. 

“First if all, you’re not intruding,” he interrupted. “You two can stay here until you find a more secure home,” he told me. “You say Chairman Acland’s mistress can enter your home as she pleases and is threatening to harm you in the near future. If you’re asking me for help I think the best way to protect you would be from a place I can easily watch you from.” 

I felt like I was bothering him. I had planned to ask for his help in protecting me from Diana and Keith. However, this wasn’t what I had envisioned would be the outcome. He was right though Diana definitely wouldn’t be able to barge in here or send her people to stalk me. 

“Don’t make that face. I know what you’re thinking and I told you, you’re not bothering me,” he assured me. 

That was exactly what I was thinking.

“Jasmine, You recently helped one of your co–workers at work, didn’t you?” he asked. My eyes widened and my mouth was agape as I leased he was talking about Mike. 

“How do you know that?” I asked him surprised. 

“Now I haven’t been stalking you but I had been watching over you to see how you were the first week after we met. However, seeing how his things turned out I do wish I had been stalking you and continued. My point however, is that you helped your coworker and did you ask him to repay you?” he asked me. 

My lips pressed together. He had got me. I couldn’t say that I didn’t want to receive his help because I felt I would owe him something when I did the same to Mike. 

“Well, did you?” he asked once more. 

“No,” I replied through gritted teeth. 

“Exactly, so in the same way just accept my help,” he answered. 

“Alright then,” I finally agreed. 

“You’re quite stubborn aren’t you?” He asked me. 

“You sound so mature it makes me wonder who the older one is between us,” I told 

him. 

“You make it seem like our 6 year age up is such a big deal,” he said to me and rolled his 

eyes. 

I smiled at his reaction. It was hard believing that the small, shy 13–year–old I once 

knew was now this mature man. 

“Louis, thank you for helping us,” I expressed my gratitude. 

“You’re welcome,” he replied and smiled at me. 

“Mum?” I then heard Tony’s familiar voice from nearby interrupting us. Louis and I turned to see Tony standing by the bedroom doorway. 

“Oh, looks like we have company,” Louis commented as Tony walked into the room. 

“Morning, Tony,” I greeted him. 

“Morning, Tony,” Louis greeted him as well. 

“Morning Louis,” he greeted back as he yawned. He still looked tired.

I’ll let you two chat then,” he said. “I’ll see you soon for breakfast.” He then walked out of the room and closed the door behind him. 

I opened my arms for Tony and he came and gave me a hug. He then sat beside me on the bed. 

“Did you sleep well?” I asked him. 

He nodded his head in response. “What are we doing here?” 

“Well we’re actually going to be staying here for a while,” I explained to him. 

“Why?” 

I then explained to him that we were going to be moving home and that Louis was helping us. 

“Is it a problem?” I asked him. 

He shook his head. “No, I like Louis and if we’re here with him I can make fun of him for losing yesterday.” 

I smiled then brought my hand to his hair and ruffled through it. “Don’t bully him too much.” 

Tony laughed. “I’ll try,” he then answered. 

Tony was handling the whole situation so well. I hadn’t told him about Diana and her threats but he seemed to understand that we had to do this and went along with what I decided. 2 

I’m hoping I can bring some stability to his life soon because he deserves it. 

“Anyway lets get ready for breakfast Louis said it’s waiting for us,” I told him.

As Louis had said some maids bring us some casual clothes. They were new I guess he had bought them for us. We then we’re taken to the dining area where we would be having breakfast.

Louis‘ home was beautiful, it was a large luxurious penthouse apartment in the middle of Yorkshire city. The view from the windows was absolutely breathtaking. You could see the whole city from here. 

During breakfast I discussed with Louis the things Tony and I would be needing from

our house during our stay here. 

“I can go with your men and get the things Tony and I need immediately, I told him. 

“Oh no, you wont be going,” Louis said matter–of–factly. “Cant risk anything happening happening to you. In case a trap has been set or something. I’ll have my men pack up all your belongings everything from your house and keep it I storage. If you need anything in particular for your stay here. I’ll have go look through the things they have gathered and take what you need,” he told me. 

“Alright,” I accepted. 

We obviously needed our clothes and Tony needed his school stuff. Everything else would stay in storage until we got our knew house. 

We came to an agreement on my belongings. I could then have the keys delivered to Keith this week. 

After breakfast Louis said he had some things to but would return in the afternoon. He said we were free to live around his apartment as we pleased and to make ourselves comfortable.
