96 Why can’t that be me?

DIANA’S POV

As the week progressed I patiently waited for an update on whether Jasmine had been fired or not. It was Saturday now. It should have happened some time before the end of the week. After receiving the contacts I had proceeded to call this Mr Gatwick and thankfully he agreed to dothe job it for 50,000 dollars.

Make use of the Jasmines allowances. I didn’t tell him my name or anything. We agreed that I’d give him a 25,000 deposit and once he had done the job, give him the rest. Of which I had given him the deposit now, I had one of my bodyguards deliver it to him in cash. I had to wait for the final update and send him the rest.

Jasmine was thinking she was now fine since she got a job but she had no idea that things could get worse for her. I’ll make her wish she just got the 1,000 dollars a month I gave her. And when she tried to get another job I would intervene again. 2

Suddenly the door to the car opened and I was brought out of my thoughts. I looked out and saw the massive mansion in front on me. I had arrived at Catherine’s estate. One of my friends. She was hosting a brunch at her home and had invited me.

I was helped out of the car by my bodyguard. I expected the door to then close but instead heard a set of footsteps coming from behind me. I turned and saw Marco come

out of the car.

Oh right, he had come with me, I remembered. Catherine had told everyone to bring their kids since it was a Saturday. Marco then stepped forward heading for the

mansion entrance.

Wait a moment,I ordered Marco.

He stopped and fearfully turned to look at me. I drew closer to him and reached out my hand. He flinched. Oh, don’t be dramatic,I scoffed. He was probably thinking of when I’d hit him the some days ago for doing something to piss me off. He knows I wouldn’t hit him in public, though. I’m giving you one last check before we go inside.”

My head maid and I had given him a retouch this morning. You could never be too sure so for my peace of mind I always checked. He was fine.

Remember to be polite and don’t go near any water.I instructed him.

Yes,mum,he replied.

Good.”

Sometimes, I looked at Marco and resented him so much for the secret I had to conceal that took so much effort. At the same time, however, I would remember how important he was for all this to work.

We were then lead into the mansion by the estate servants. We were lead through a series of hallways before we led outside to a garden. Seated at a table were 5 women. On the table were

Good morning,” I greeted the ladies as Marco and I approached the table.

Diana thank you for coming,” Catherine, the host greeted me.

Hello Marco you can go play with the other kids that are playing, not too far from here,” Catherine said to him.

I could see children running around in the distance from us.

Go on,” I then said in my politest voice to him. He then went off to join the other women’s children.

I hope I’m not late,I said as I sat down at a free seat.

Oh not at all, Karen and Lorah haven’t arrived yet, another woman replied.

That’s good to hear,I said. These group of women all used to be Jasmine’s friends. Now they were mine. But it’s not like we were all really friends. We were friends by association due to our husbands/lovers business partnerships with one another. So by proxy we were all friendsbut say anything happened like your husband left you or your man’s partnership ended with the other men they would drop you.

I mean look how quick they were to drop Jasmine after she fell out of Keith’s favour.

Diana how are you feeling? Is your eye feeling any better?a woman named Amanda asked me.

I’m fine,I told them. I’m healing well as well. Thank you for asking.”

I just feel awful that it happened right after my baby shower,Amanda told me.

No don’t worry, it’s not like it was your fault,I assured her. how’s the pregnancy going so far?I asked as I looked at her very pregnant belly.

96 Why can’t that bo mar

Its alright but the morning sickness is still unbearable. I can’t believe after two kids already I still get sick like this,Amanda complained. But Theo is so attentive and sweet to me it makes me forget the struggle of the pregnancy,

Aww,all the women said in unison.

Hearing that me feel a little insecure for some reason. Theo was her husband and they had been married for 12 years.

Amanda was just like me she came from humble beginings but met and married her multimillionaire husband. Now they were a cute couple with two kinds and another on the way. When I was younger I always dreamt of the life I would live once I married Keith. I would be a billionaire’s wifeliving a life of luxury whilst having cond from humble beginnings.

Yet it was violently stolen from me by that bitch. Why did Anabda get to be lucky and have no issues with her husband marrying her but my man had to be in an arranged marriage? So annoying how some people get lucky.

I should be on par with Amanda having already been married to Keith for 10 years now. Working on my third child too.

However, it’s getting a little hard for me to move around,” I mean I’m due in less than 3 months now.

Do you think you’ll be able to make it to the Sorajov fundraising event this coming week?a woman asked Amanda.

I recalled the upcoming event. I was going to attend with Keith. Hewould be there

too…

I don’t know, perhaps I’ll come for a little while and then go home, she said.

You know, I saw Jasmine the other day,” Catherine then said to me.

Did you?I asked.

She was at a restaurant with a man,she continued. My pupils widened in surprise by

this new detail.
