Suddenly, Emily’s face went white with fear, her hands shaking she lifted them. 

She pointed at the house and said, “Go, go, go now!” 

“What did you find?” Chloe asked. 

Emily hadn’t looked like this in ages. It could only mean things were really bad over there. 

Emily swallowed hard and stammered, “I–I saw a cheetah as big as a house. It looks terrifyingly strong.” 

Her voice turned frantic, and she was practically shoving them to get moving. 

She urged, “Run! That cheetah spotted me! Move, move!” 

Her voice broke; she was on the verge of tears.

Out in the open space next to a house, a cheetah the size of a building suddenly snapped its eyes open, glaring dangerously into the distance. 

It sniffed the air, seemed to catch a familiar scent, and its massive body suddenly leapt up. 

It vaulted right over a two–story building and tore straight toward the base car. 

Emily was shrieking in panic. 

She shouted, “Run! It’s too late! We’re out of time!” 

Chloe slammed her foot on the gas, and the car lurched forward sending everything inside tumbling and crashing in a chaotic mess. 

Joan and the others were lucky. They were all lying in bed, and the cabinets built into the head and foot of the beds kept 

them safe from the worst of it. 

But Liana had just gotten up to make lunch, and the sudden burst of speed threw her straight into the door. 

She curled up on the floor, clutching the vmutagenic power liquid tightly to her chest, her forehead already sporting a nasty bruise. 

The car had barely started when it shot forward, but within ten seconds, a massive figure blocked their path. 

It was a mutant cheetah. 

It sprawled across the highway, completely blocking the road, like it owned the place. 

Chloe found the cheetah somewhat familiar. 

Suddenly, she blurted out, “Holy crap!” 

She recognized the mutant cheetah as the one they had run into in the basement before. 

Chloe thought, ‘So it is still alive! 

Chloe squinted for a better look and almost cursed out loud. 

The cheetah was now a level–four mutant beast.

When even level–two mutant beasts were hard to come by, a lev–four just showed up out of nowhere. Who wouldn’t be scared out of their wits? 

Chloe called out to everyone in the car, “Heads up! Stay alert and get ready to throw down if we have to!” 

Frank paused, set his half–finished armor aside, and fixed his gaze on the mutant cheetah sprawled across the highway. 

He said, “Chloe, is that some kind of mutant cat? It looks just like a cheetah to me.” 

Chloe rolled her eyes and replied, “That’s a cheetah. And it is a level–four one, no less.” 

“Wait, what?” Frank sputtered, eyes wide in disbelief. 

He nearly choked and sprayed water everywhere, completely stunned. 

“Stay sharp, everyone. We’ll improvise if we have to,” Chloe said. 

For the first time, Chloe sounded the alarm for the whole team. 

She even let the Phantom Zombie out of her spiritual space. 

The instant the Phantom Zombie showed up, the temperature seemed to plummet, and the mutant cheetah gave an involuntary shudder. 

But it still snarled right at Chloe, not backing down one bit. 

Chloe opened the car door and stepped out slowly. 

Emily grabbed her arm. She said, “Don’t go. Maybe it’ll leave on its own in a minute.” 

Chloe gave a wry smile and said, “Check with your spirit–powered sense. See if there’s an injured guy in the house next to where the cheetah was hanging out.” 

Emily quickly scanned the area with her spirit–powered sense, then nodded vigorously. 

She said, “Yeah. That guy’s all banged up, knocked out on the be. There are a few others in military gear nearby, and they look pretty beat up, too.” 

Chloe nodded. 

She almost had it figured out, 

Last time they ran into each other, this cheetah nearly went for her throat. But now, it didn’t come at her the moment it saw her. So Chloe figured its owner was in trouble. 

Chloe walked up to the mutant cheetah, and the gust from its nostrils almost knocked her off her feet. 

“Hey, we meet again,” Chloe said with a grin, playing up the who old–friends vibe. 

The mutant cheetah gave her a proud, sideways look, then got up and strolled off toward the village. 

Chloe mulled it over, then climbed back into the driver’s seat. 

Emily was practically bouncing with excitement. She said, “The g cheetah just moved out of the way. Let’s go.” 

Chloe gave a wry smile. She thought, ‘Yeah, right. Like it’s that cy

Bering the mutant cheetah keep glancing back at her with every ep, Chloe could only sigh and turn the car toward the village 

In the SUV, Evan and Hence were freaking out, their legs turning to jelly 

Oh man, what kind of mutant beast is that? Did a cat level up or something? Evan muttered. 

I think it looks just like a cheetah, Renee said, her voice trembling 

Evan thought, ‘Can someone please tell me what the hell is going on? 

Evan pointed at the car ahead, his hand trembling. He said, “Honey, they’re following that mutant cheetah. Should we go after them?” 

Hence hesitated, caught between wanting to run and sticking arend 

She really wanted to bail, but if she left now, all that effort she pinto riding the big shot’s coattails would go to waste. 

Finally, she gritted her teeth and said, “Follow them” 

“Alight. Wait, we’re not making a run for it?” Evan said, confused. 

Hence shot him a look and snapped, “Itum where? Even if we try we might not survive. Might as well stick with them. At least we’re in this together” 

“Got it” Evan replied. 

He then turned the car and followed closely behind Chloe’s car. 

Chloe and her crew pulled up next to the last building in the row 

The mutant cheetal stopped, shrinking back down to regular cheetah size. 

It bared its teeth at Chloe, making it clear it hadn’t forgotten the last run–in. 

It was an arrogant level four mutant beast, and it held grudges life nobody’s business. 

Even though it needed Chloe’s help, it still wasn’t about to swall its pride. 

Especially when it saw the pretty faced girl sticking close to Chl, its fur stood on end. 

It los ked its gaze on Chloe, eyes full of suspicion, ready to rip he to shreds if she made a wrong move. 

Chloe glared right back, flashing her own sharp teeth at the cheh 

She snapped. “What are you looking at? Never seen a beauty bele?” 

The cheetah let out a couple of angry roars, clearly not hacking own. 

I brandished its sharp claws, swiping through the air, but held ck from actually attacking. 

It was saying, “stupid woman. Jurry up and save my master alrely.” 

Chloe ran the numbers in her head, she thought, With the Pharom Zombie and me teaming up, we can easily keep the cheetah at bay 

As for Family, Mindy, Frank, and Renee, if it comes down to it, they could finish off any survivors inside in a heartbeat. 

Plus, since the cheetah is the one coming to me for help. I really have nothing to worry about.

Emily seemed to catch on, too. She puffed herself up, and she called out to the cheetah, “Just so you know, our captaiti’s looking for a level–four core.” 

The cheetah let out a thunderous roar. It was clearly angry. 

The roar was so loud that it made Emily jump, and she immedinely darted behind Chloe. 

Chloe thought, ‘Emily, the troublemaker. 

She turned to the cheetah and said, “If you want to save your mater, stop messing around. 

The cheetah retracted its claws and darted straight into the room 

Inside, Mike’s voice trembled as he called out, “Hey, big guy, we’re on your side. We’re here to save your master. Don’t go thinking of us as your next meal, alright?” 

The cheetah swatted him aside with an impatient swipe of its paw, clearing a space by the bed.
