Chapter 109Â
The mutant cheetah walked over to the bed and, using its mouth pulled out a large black bag from beside the nightstand where Noah was sleeping.Â
Chloe’s eyes lit up. This bag was all too familiar to her.Â
Back in the supermarket’s underground warehouse, the cheetahad handed her this very bag.Â
She never expected that in just over a dozen days, the bag would be stuffed full again.Â
She opened up the bag, stopped in her tracks, and stared at the ot inside. Her eyes nearly popped out, and she was practically drooling.Â
“Damn, these are all level–three cores!” Chloe exclaimed.Â
Emily peeked in, eyes wide with curiosity. She sucked in a breath pointing excitedly at the fist–sized rock.Â
She said, “Chloe, check it out. That’s an energy stone! For real!”Â
That fist–sized meteorite might not be as epic as the one Chloe stored before, but it was still a super rare find.Â
Chloe snapped the bag shut, clearly satisfied with the haul.Â
She reached out and gave the mutant cheetah’s head a gentle pa She said, “Such a good kitty. Your master will definitely thank you when he wakes up.”Â
Chloe thought, ‘By now, Hevenseale is probably overrun by zombies and mutant beasts. Honestly, that is probably the only place where you could find so many level–three cores and energy stones.Â
Suddenly, a thought struck Chloe, and she jumped to her feet.Â
She thought, ‘Wait a second, if this energy stone was found in Hevenseale, there must be more of them out there.Â
And why are the zombies and mutant beasts in Hevenseale evolving so quickly?Â
‘Could it be that there’s a huge energy stone hidden somewhere in the city?‘Â
Chloe couldn’t help but get excited at the thought.Â
She thought, ‘If that is really true, I have to make a trip back to Hevenseale.Â
But not right now.’Â
“Alright, I’m happy with your payment. Let’s get your master pathed up,” Chloe said.Â
She reached out and placed her hand on Noah’s wrist, a stream green energy pouring from her fingertips into him.Â
As Chloe’s face grew paler, the green energy coursed through every inch of his body. His fever broke, and he pulled through.Â
An hour later, Chloe slowly withdrew her hand.Â
She said, sounding tired, “Okay, your master’s gonna live.”Â
Just like before, Chloe healed Noah only enough that he would die.Â
She wasn’t dumb. She knew that if she went all out and fixed No up completely, she’d drain herself dry.Â

No way she was letting herself be out of commission for days. Tat just wasn’t happening.Â
Just as Chloe was about to get up and leave, the cheetal blocked he doorway, refusing to let her pass.Â
Chloe demanded, “What’s your problem? Your master’s not gonna die, so why won’t you let me go?”Â
The cheetah just let out a low growl.Â
It wasn’t budging. Its master was still out cold, so there was no way it was letting Chloe leave.Â
Just then, Mike from the powered human squad nervously pipe up, “Can we leave now?”Â
Mike grumbled inwardly, ‘Man, what kind of luck was this?‘Â
Mike and his crew had managed to find a place to crash, and the they ran into the cheetah.Â

They even had to leave the captain’s wife behind as a hostage, and only then did they reluctantly go out to scavenge for supplies.Â
To make things even worse, they barely found anything, and then Chloe snatched their tanker.Â
Now, with two powerhouses about to clash, if they didn’t get out soon, they’d be toast.Â
Mike was just testing his luck, but to his surprise, the cheetah actually stepped aside, almost like a person would, clearing a path for them.Â
The powered human team was ecstatic. They shuffled past the cheetah, barely daring to breathe, and hurried out of there.Â
Chloe’s eyes widened. She demanded, “What’s that supposed to mean? You bullying me now?”Â
The cheetah just let out a series of low growls, as if saying, “Yeah, I’m bullying you. So what?”Â
No way Chloe was letting that kind of challenge slide.Â
She flashed over to Noah, lying on the bed, and grabbed him by the throat.Â
Her red lips parted, but her words were cold enough to freeze the air.Â
She said, “Kitty, tell me: do you think I could squeeze the life out of your master with just one hand?”Â
The cheetah got agitated.Â
A wave of murderous intent radiated from it, eyes locked on Chibe like it was ready to tear her apart.Â
The atmosphere was so tense that it felt like a showdown was about to break out, leaving the soldiers stunned.Â
They thought, ‘What the hell is going on?Â
‘Everything was fine just a second ago. How did we end up on the verge of a fight?”Â
Chloe radiated a fierce fighting spirit, her whole presence cracking with battle intent.Â
She barked, “Phantom Zombie, Emily, Mindy, Frank: grab your weapons! Get ready, we’re going in!”Â
The ones Chloe called out just stared at her, eyes wide, like she’d gone totally nuts.Â
They thought, ‘Seriously? You want us to take on a level–four mant beast? Are you trying to get us killed or what?”Â
Chloe ignored her teammates‘ terrified stares and suddenly said Have Joan and Liana take the mutagenic liquid and get outÂ

there to fight.”Â

She turned to the cheetah and said, “Kitty, I’m putting my teammates in your paws. If any of them die under your claws, I’ll make sure your master pays the price.”Â
Before the cheetah could react, she continued, “But if every one of them manages to improve their abilities, I’ll treat you to a big feast. And I’ll even let your master wake up.Â
“Don’t give me that look. I know you get what I’m saying.”Â
The cheetah bared its teeth at Chloe and let out a few fierce growls, then strutted out like it owned the place.Â
Frank instantly understood what Chloe was getting at. When people were pushed to the edge, they could awaken powers buried deep inside.Â
The harsher and more dangerous the environment, the more powerful the abilities that emerged.Â
And for those who already had powers, fighting for their lives in a deadly battle meant gaining a ton of combat experience.Â
That was a level–four mutant cheetah. Making it out alive from under its claws was seriously tough.Â
Once the cheetah left, Chloe released Noah and dug out some rations from her bag, snacking away without a care in the world.Â
The soldiers all stared at her as if she had just dropped in from another planet.Â
“Want some?” Chloe asked, waving the biscuits.Â
The soldiers instinctively nodded, then just as quickly shook their heads.Â
The cheetah had already swiped all their supplies as the price for getting its master patched up.Â
Chloe sorted through her bag, picking out all the cores for herself.Â
“Take whatever’s left,” she said.Â
After all, the soldiers had helped her out in her previous life, so she figured she should at least cut them some slack this time.Â
Peyton was totally floored.Â
“Wait, you’re actually giving our gear back?” he asked, his face full of disbelief.Â
“You want it or not?” Chloe snapped.Â
“Yes! Yes!” the soldiers all shouted, almost losing it with excitement.Â
They scrambled to snatch up their backpacks, barely able to contain themselves.Â
Peyton stood there awkwardly, not sure what to call her, before ally blurting out, “Uh, didn’t you say you’d wake Noah up?”Â
He watched in disbelief as Chloe just started snacking right in front of them, like she didn’t have a care in the world.Â
“What’s it to you?” Chloe shot back.Â
Chloe cocked her ear, listening to the brawl going down outside lonestly, if she didn’t have to stick around just to keep that cheetah in line, she’d be out there catching the show herself.Â
Peyton was totally stumped, staring at Noah lying on the bed. He thought, ‘Should I just grab him and make a break for it while no one’s looking?”Â

He thought. This woman is just a healer type, not a fighter at all. So how is she able to threaten that scary mutant cheetah?Â
“Even if she’s got Noah by the throat, that mutant cheetah’s a total monster. It should be able to tear her apart in a second. right?Â
