“You… Why the hell are you guys still dragging zombies around? Peyton blurted out. 

Chloe shot back, “What’s the problem?” She gave Peyton a cold ance, and the dozen or so soldiers, Peyton included, all shook their heads in perfect sync. 

None of them had any objections, nor did they dare to. 

Just then, a deafening roar echoed from outside. 

Chloe narrowed her eyes and said, “Here they come.” 

Before anyone could react, their faces all turned grim. 

“Mutant creatures are approaching,” someone called out. 

“Mutant zombies are closing in,” another voice shouted. 

All at once, everyone suited up and readied their weapons. 

Frank wasted no time and drove the base vehicle straight into the courtyard. 

From the rooftop, they looked out and saw about twenty mutant zombies charging forward, with countless mutant creatures trailing behind them. 

“Everyone, get ready for battle,” Chloe ordered. 

She turned to the mutant cheetah and said, “Kitty, we’re counting on you now. Don’t let those nasty creatures break in and hurt 

your master.” 

The mutant cheetah bared its teeth at Chloe, thinking, ‘See? I told you this human was trouble.‘ 

The first to rush in was a level three brute–type mutant zombie. 

Before anyone could even blink, the cheetah pounced and slammed its paw down, crushing the mutant zombie’s head flat. Its zombie core popped right out. 

Channeling Chloe, Emily shouted with excitement, “Quick, hand over that core! Chloe can heal your master!” 

As soon as she finished speaking, the zombie core was tossed up to her. 

Emily was so hyped that she could barely contain herself. 

If it hadn’t grown out of a zombie’s skull, she’d have kissed it right then and there. 

With the cheetah in the mix, what was supposed to be a brutal fight turned into a total wipeout. 

It was a clash of the titans, and not a single ordinary mutant or bie dared to get close. 

Good thing, too. If that massive zombie horde had actually charged in, it would’ve been a real nightmare.

Chloe looked at the heap of zombie cores scattered all over the floor, her smile so wide it nearly split her face. 

She said, “You all fought hard today. Time for a victory feast!” 

With a casual wave, Chloe made a whole spread appear on the table, leaving the soldiers totally dumbfounded. 

“Quit staring and get ready to eat! Go wash up first,” Chloe said. 

The soldiers thought, ‘Wash our hands? For real? 

‘Clean water’s like gold these days. Who’d waste it on something like washing hands? 

‘And with the world iced over, where are we supposed to get warm water from?‘ 

Just then, Liana walked over carrying a basin of warm water. 

She’d brought it out from the SUV parked outside. 

The soldiers thought, ‘Seriously, how huge is that ride? 

‘Wait, that girl isn’t just a healer. She’s got a spiritual space too?

Just then, Evan, Renee, and their kid poked their heads out, looking dusty, disheveled, and worn out.

They’d spent the whole night fighting that thing, barely dodging its claws a few times.

“Maybe we should just split up and do our own thing.” 

Peyton instantly panicked. 

If things really split up like that, let alone finding food for the refugees, they’d be lucky to survive themselves. Plus, they still had Steven to look after. 

Emily said, “If it comes down to it, just let us handle Steven. We’ve got enough people and supplies, and we’ll get him to Bluehaven Base safe and sound, no problem.” 

Peyton shook his head frantically and protested, “No, no, that’s out of the question!” 

Peyton and his crew rushed to shield Steven, making sure he was safely behind them. 

Steven was the lifeblood of their base. There was no way they could let anything happen to him. 

“So, what’s it going to be?” Chloe pressed, not giving them any time to think it over. 

Just as Peyton was still hesitating, the radio finally crackled to life 

A mature man’s anxious voice came through, 

The man asked, “Peyton, where are you? How’s Mr. Johnson holding up?” 

Peyton was so moved that he almost burst into tears. 

“Commander, where are you guys?” Peyton blurted out, his voice trembling with excitement. 

“The main force is on the Riverside Highway, but the road ahead is blocked. Where are you?” the voice replied. 

They exchanged their locations and realized they weren’t far apt at all. 

“Sorry, Captain Yates, but we need to meet up with the main group. We’d rather keep Steven with us for safety, and we’ll also take the refugees along,” Peyton said, sounding both apologetic and resolute.

“Our main squad’s got over a hundred soldiers and loads of supplies. Why don’t we team up and travel together?” Peyton suggested, looking hopefully at Chloe and her crew. 

The strength of this ability squad was way beyond anything Peyton had ever imagined. If they could be officially enlisted into Bluehaven Base’s forces, they’d be a huge boost to the base’s fighting power. 

Especially Chloe: she spent almost the whole night healing people instead of fighting herself. 

With her healing powers, she could even cleanse zombie virus infections. That kind of ability was just totally game- breaking. 

Chloe considered it for a second before nodding. 

“Alright, but we’re not getting mixed up in your affairs. Plus, we’ve got our own base vehicle,” she said.
