Chloe thought, “The boy looks street–smart. If we could get him on our side with a few small favors, it wouldn’t be a badÂ
move.‘Â
In the end, the little boy thanked them a thousand times as he accepted the items.Â
Clutching the supplies to his chest and thinking about his family the whole time, he slipped away into the night.Â
When Frank secretly escorted the boy back, he grinned and said, “That kid’s got some real street smarts. He hid the supplies in his arms and faked a stomachache, managing to slip past the thugs lurking in the shadows.”Â
Chloe didn’t even bat an eye. She waved everyone over, urging, “Come on, let’s eat before it gets cold!”Â
Liana served up the meal, loaded with cabbage and lettuce she’d managed to grow in record time today. Thanks to her special touch, even raw, the veggies were delicious.Â
Everyone dug in happily.Â
Since Liana was a powered human and played an important role in the group, it didn’t feel right to leave all the chores to her alone. So everyone decided to pitch in and help out.Â
Or, they thought maybe they could just get someone to come by each day to help with cleaning and meals.Â
Late at night, after everyone had showered and settled in to sleep, patrols outside kept the place secure. Nobody had to worry about thugs suddenly breaking in to snatch their supplies.Â
The villa next door was shrouded in darkness. At a third–floor window, a tall man yanked the curtains closed, his voice gruff.Â
“Looks like we’ve got new neighbors,” he rumbled.Â
He cracked a crooked grin, making his already menacing face look even more sinister.Â
Nearly twenty people stood behind him, their eyes glued to the window, as if they could see straight through the curtains to the folks next door.Â
A voluptuous woman asked, “Charles, did you see what they look like?”Â
Charles, that oddball, just smirked at her question.Â
“It’s pitch black out there. What do you expect me to see? But…” he snickered, voice full of sleaze.Â
His grin turned downright greasy.Â
“Still, judging by their figures, looks like there are plenty of chicks in there. And a couple of kids, too,” Charles added.Â
Everyone in the room exchanged glances, their smiles full of implication.Â
But the voluptuous woman wasn’t convinced. She shot them a wary look and warned, “Don’t be fooled by appearances. Do you really think any ordinary people could live here?Â
“Charles, especially you. There are plenty of beautiful women out there. Don’t go looking for trouble.”Â
Charles just smirked and shrugged it off. He said, “Yeah, yeah, with a stunner like you by my side, who else could even compare?”Â
Their crew had over twenty powered humans, including several second–level ones. They were standouts in the base’s Awakened Group.Â

Honestly, nobody dared mess with them.Â
Of course, the Elite District had even tougher Awakened Groups. Rumor had it their captains were third–level powered humans. But those were the base’s battle squads, and Charles wasn’t about to mess with that kind of trouble.Â
“Dallas, you think those new powered humans who just moved in next door are tough?” Charles asked.Â
Dallas, the voluptuous woman, instantly looked annoyed. “What are you up to?” she shot back.Â
Charles snickered, “I saw their backpacks from a distance. They were stuffed to the brim. Maybe we should pay them a little visit tonight.”Â
Before he could finish, Dallas smacked him hard on the forehead. She sneered, “Didn’t last time teach you a lesson?”Â
One of the guys nearby nodded. He said, “They just moved in. Let’s just watch for now. Who knows, maybe they’re not the type you want to mess with.”Â
In the dead of night, the whole crew of powered humans was chattering away, plotting how to snatch the supplies from next door.Â
The Guardian District had plenty of armed guards around, so they couldn’t just do things openly like in other places. But as long as they kept it low–key, nobody would bat an eye.Â
Meanwhile, Chloe and the others had sweet dreams: their first truly restful sleep since the apocalypse began.Â
When everyone woke up, Liana had already whipped up a meal and set it out for them.Â
There were fresh homemade noodles, some zesty side dishes, and pickled veggies. They were perfect for soaking up all the flavors.Â
“Liana, your cooking just keeps getting better and better,” Emily said, not even trying to hide how impressed she was.Â
The others couldn’t help but give Liana a thumbs–up, too.Â
Liana burst out laughing, clearly tickled by all the praise.Â
“I never really had any other hobbies. I just loved perfecting my cooking. As long as you all enjoy the food, I’m happy,” Liana said with a big grin.Â
“We really do! But it must be tough on you to prepare so much food every day,” Emily chimed in.Â
“Oh, it’s no trouble at all. Since I’m not much of a fighter, I just do what I can to help out. Cooking, helping the plants grow- it keeps me busy, and I enjoy it,” Liana replied with a chuckle.Â
Liana wasn’t exaggerating. She was totally into growing plants these days. Every day, she was either whipping up meals, experimenting with her plants, or looking after the kids. She never seemed to get tired of it.Â
Emily shot a glance at the window and said, “Looks like the folks next door had their eyes on us again last night.”Â
Molly nodded, popping a piece of bread into her mouth. She said, “They’re no match for us, Chloe.”Â
Molly’s abilities had improved, and now she could sense the strength of the powered humans nearby.Â
She couldn’t pinpoint their exact level, but she could make a pretty good guess.Â
“We’re here to look for someone, so let’s not make things complicated for ourselves,” Chloe said.Â
Everyone nodded, totally on the same page.Â
Chapter 120Â
After everyone had eaten their fill, they headed over to the mission hall together to register their Awakened Group and put up some missions.Â

As Chloe and others stepped outside, they bumped into a patrol team. The guards looked genuinely surprised to see new powered humans moving into the villa area.Â
The group exchanged glances, opened their mouths as if to say something, but in the end, offered a helpful reminder.Â
One of them snapped a salute to Chloe and the crew, saying, “Be sure to lock all the doors and windows before you head out.”Â
This was the base’s upscale villa district. Each villa had its own small yard, and the doors and windows were reinforced for added security.Â
Chloe nodded gratefully.Â
“Hey, officer, how often do you guys patrol this area?” she asked.Â
The powered human at the front of the patrol team replied, “We send a patrol team through about every half hour.”Â
Frank stepped up and fished a few packs of cigarettes out from inside his jacket, handing them over.Â
He said, “Hey, chief, here’s the deal: we’ve got some old folks and kids at home, and we’re not too comfortable leaving them alone while we’re out on missions. If you could look out for them, we’d really appreciate it.”Â
The lead powered human’s eyes lit up at the sight of the cigarettes, and he instantly grinned from ear to ear.Â
He couldn’t wait to rip open a pack, pulled out a cigarette, and took a long, satisfied sniff–nothing beat that feeling.Â
“Relax, this is our turf. Nothing’s gonna happen on our watch,” he promised.Â
He stuffed the cigarettes into his pocket, keeping his hand firmly over them, like he was afraid someone might snatch them.Â
away.Â
“And one more thing: watch out for your neighbors next door,” he added.Â
Frank arched a brow, lit a cigarette, and offered it to the man.Â
“What do you mean by that?” Frank asked.Â
Seeing the cigarettes, the guy decided to share a bit more info.Â
He said, “The last folks who lived in your villa had a real beef with the neighbors next door. Rumor has it tjat those neighbors swiped all their supplies.Â
“There aren’t any cameras around here, so they couldn’t prove anything. Since nobody got seriously hurt or killed, we couldn’t really step in.”Â
Frank nodded and said, “Thanks for the heads–up.”Â
As soon as Chloe and the crew left, the patrol team that had been all serious and lined up just seconds ago totally lost their cool and turned into a chaotic mess.Â
Everyone swarmed around the lead guy, staring at the cigarettes in his hand like hungry wolves, swallowing hard as they imagined getting a taste.Â
