Frank smirked, stepped right up, and put himself in front of the gun. He said, “Alright, let me see what a death sentence feels

He laughed out loud, not giving a damn about the sniper rifle pointed at him.

His power was all about close combat and defense. Forget a sniper rifle; even if a regular zombie got its hands on hirm, it wouldn’t leave a scratch.

Someone with Frank’s kind of absolute defense was one of a kind so far, so people still kept their guard up around him.

Frank wore a cocky grin. They weren’t looking for trouble, but if it showed up, they sure weren’t going to chicken out.

The real deal was, they had what it took to leave the base whenever they felt like it.

By now, most of the powered humans in the hall had made themselves scarce, leaving only a few who looked at Frank like he’d lost his mind.

They thought, ‘Is this guy for real? Is he actually challenging the base right to their faces?‘

They gave Frank a mental three–second funeral.

Instead of a gruesome scene with Frank’s brains everywhere, what they saw was Frank standing there, grinning with his arms crossed, cool as ever.

He glanced down at the ground, shook his head, and smirked. He said, “Seriously? The bullets are all squashed. Did you guys make your bullets out of tofu or what?”

As soon as he said that, everyone’s eyes darted to the bullet lying on the floor. It was completely squashed: no doubt it had slammed right into Frank. People just stared, stunned, unable to believe what they were seeing.

All eyes were locked on the bullet, and even William couldn’t hide his shock.

William squatted down, grabbed the bullet off the floor, and checked it out. Inside, he was totally freaking out.

Even Chloe was staring at Frank in disbelief. She’d expected him to dodge, but he just stood there and tanked the shot like it was nothing.

She thought, ‘Didn’t he just hit level three last night?‘

The man who strode in was dressed in full military gear, with a square jaw, sharp brows, and clear eyes. He walked with a straight back, exuding that unmistakable military vibe.

Anyone could see he was an officer.

He was followed by a tall, skinny guy. As soon as they walked into the hall, the tall guy started scanning the crowd, clearly searching for someone. When he spotted Chloe, his face lit up with a big grin.

“Captain Yates! Finally tracked you guys down,” he called out.

This was Peyton, the squad leader of those unlucky grunts they’d run into back in the village.

Peyton looked at Chloe, practically buzzing with excitement. He said, “I’ve been looking everywhere for you. Thought maybe you didn’t make it.

“Heard there was a human with healing ability here, and I figured it had to be you, so I rushed right over.”

Chloe barely acknowledged Peyton’s excitement and asked coolly, “Did you find my family yet?”

Peyton scratched his head and said, “Sorry, I’ve been swamped since I got to the base yesterday. But don’t worry, I’ll issue a search order right now and get people looking.”

Chloe waved him off and said, “I already put out the task. Just distribute their photos and names to everyone.”

“Whoa, healing ability?” The crowd gasped, eyes popping in disbelief.

Today had been one shock after another. Everyone was just stunned, unable to process it all.
