Chapter 129Â
Chloe let out a deep breath and nodded with a smile.Â
Then, the whole house erupted in deafening cheers.Â
Even the kids couldn’t stop giggling.Â
The mutant cheetah, sprawled on the carpet like a cat, rolled its eyes at the ceiling.Â
If scoffed inwardly, ‘Leveling up to a Level 4 powered human? Please, that’s nothing special.Â
I am already at Level 4Â
Thinking about how awesome it was, the cheetah couldn’t help but wag its tail with smug pride.Â

But then, when it saw Noah looking all soft and sentimental toward Chloe, the mutant cheetah felt so annoyed it could burst.Â
It thought, ‘Seriously, what’s so special about that crazy lady? One day, I will find you a female cheetah, way better looking than her.Â
‘What if that woman tears me apart for that?‘Â
Before it could get lost in its wild thoughts, Emily’s chatty voice broke in.Â
“Chloe, unleash your Level 4 powered human presence! Let us experience it for ourselves!” Emily urged eagerly.Â
Chloe nodded.Â
Suddenly, a deathly chill swept through the living room on the first floor. The air felt as heavy as liquid metal, weighing everyone’s hearts down.Â
Normally, they’d be at full strength, but now they could barely muster a third of it.Â
Renee, who was most affected, went pale and clutched her chest.Â
She managed to say, “Chloe, your aura is just like the suppression in my spiritual space.”Â
Chloe nodded, a hint of confusion flickering across her face.Â
Her spiritual space came from the emerald bracelet, not her own ability as a powered human. So how could there be any kind of space pressure?Â
The baby and Clara started crying, struggling to breathe. Chloe quickly pulled back her aura.Â
Everyone could finally breathe normally again, and they all let out a sigh of relief.Â
Frank gaped at Chloe, eyes wide. He asked, “Chloe, what did you even do today? How’d you manage to hit Level 4 in just one day?”Â
Chloe replied, “Honestly? I just absorbed every single high–level core the military had stockpiled.”Â
Everyone sucked in a breath.Â
They all gave her a thumbs–up in perfect unison.Â
They thought, “That’s our captain for you.’Â

On the third floor of the villa next door, in the largest room, about twenty people sat around a big table.Â

Dallas stood by the window, her fingers pulling the curtain aside Just a little so she could peek at the house next door.Â
Her voice sounded weird and heavy as she said, “Charles, they’re okay!”Â
Dallas thought, “They actually came back in one piece, and the good–looking guy is still hanging around.Â
“They all look smiles and relaxed, like nothing has ever gone wrong!Â
Charles downed his water in one go.Â
He might be rough around the edges, but he was no fool.Â
Everyone saw what happened in the registration hall today. Chloe and her crew had messed with Elise.Â
Charles and his crew were so scared of getting dragged into it that they bailed before things got messy.Â
They figured that Chloe and her crew were toast and were already planning to sneak into their villa tonight to loot the place.Â
But to their shock, every single one of them came back in one piece.Â
Charles thought, ‘Just what went down over there?‘Â
Their captain, Marcus, slowly stood up, his whole presence radiating a heavy, oppressive vibe.Â
His voice was a bit hoarse, but serious. He said, “From now on, don’t go head–to–head with that squad.”Â
“Got it,” everyone replied.Â
Even though they didn’t believe Blaze Squad could’ve escaped Elise’s clutches by sheer strength, they couldn’t help but stayÂ
cautious.Â
Maybe they had some powerful backer behind the Blaze Squad.Â
After all, Chloe leading the squad was drop–dead gorgeous.Â
So, they’d rather believe she was just some big shot’s plaything.Â
Just then, a shadowy figure quickly approached from the darkness.Â
Soon, he arrived at the gate of Villa 10, where Chloe and her crew lived.Â
The powered human clutched his aching stomach, doubled over and gasped for breath as he finally staggered up to the gate.Â
He grabbed the iron gate and shook it hard.Â
“Is anyone there? Is anyone there?” he shouted.Â
Emily and Chloe noticed him at the same time.Â
“Chloe, there’s a strange man knocking at the gate,” Emily said.Â
Chloe shot to her feet, opened the door, walked through the yard, and headed straight for the gate.Â
“What doÂ
youÂ
I want?” she asked.Â
When the man saw someone come out, he shouted breathlessly Quick, get your captain! I found Linda and the twins!”Â

Chloe was so excited that she literally phased right through the on gate, materializing beside the man in an instant.Â
That startled the man so much he nearly jumped out of his skin.Â
“Y–you… how did you get out here?” he stammered, eyes wide.Â
“Where are they?” Chloe pressed urgently.Â
The powered human was still wheezing, so Chloe sent a wave of green energy his way. He instantly perked up, energy flooding back into him.Â
“Whoa, what’s going on? Hey, stop pulling me! Hurry up and get your captain. I’ve got important intel!” the powered human said, still a little out of it.Â
Frank and the others exchanged glances and followed after themÂ
Frank finally snapped at the guy’s nonstop whining. He snapped. “Shut up! Say one more word, and I’ll rip your tongue out.”Â
The powered human covered his mouth, eyes wide with fear, but after hesitating for a moment, he said, “If I really find them, I get all 300 pounds of food and that fancy cigarette, right?”Â
“Don’t worry, you’ll get what’s promised,” Chloe assured him.Â
Relieved by her words, the powered human picked up the pace, running even faster than when he first arrived.Â
By now, night had fallen completely, blanketing the world in darkness, like some demon had thrown a giant net over humanity, ensnaring everyone beneath it.Â
The refugee camp was jam–packed, the air thick with nonstop shouting and cursing.Â
Inside one of the tents, Chiara’s clothes were ripped away, leaving her shivering uncontrollably from the cold.Â
“You bastard, let me go! Let me go!” Chiara cried out, her voice breaking with fear.Â
Her broken cries didn’t get a single ounce of sympathy from anyone outside.Â
Everyone was just crammed together, numb as ever. They’d glance at the tent in the corner, then look away, eyes hollow.Â
Stuff like this went down in the camp pretty much every single day.Â
Starving bodies everywhere, parents swapping kids for a bite to eat. So, really, someone getting dragged into a tent? NothingÂ
new.Â
Chiara was petite and frail, just an ordinary person with no powers at all. Hammer just pinned her down, locking her arms and legs with ease.Â
No matter how hard she fought back, it was like an ant trying to shake a tree, totally hopeless.Â
Linda lunged at Hammer, brandishing a knife.Â
“You bastard, let go of my daughter! I’ll kill you!” she screamed, her voice full of rage and desperation.Â
But her strength had regressed to what it was half a month ago.Â
She was burning up with fever, her limbs weak, and after weeks of starvation, Hammer just sent the knife flying from her grasp with a single kick.Â
Linda went flying forward, her face slamming into the ground so hard she knocked out a front tooth.Â

She fought to break free, desperate to get to Linda and see if she was hurt, and to snatch up the knife lying nearby.Â
But Hammer grabbed the knife before she could, pressing the blade right up against Linda’s throat.Â
“Listen up, little beauty. Be a good girl, or your mom’s life is on the line,” Hammer taunted.Â
Chiara was only seven. She’d never faced anything like this before. Frozen with fear, she could only nod, too terrified to do anything else.Â
“Take off your clothes and get over here,” Hammer growled.Â
Linda desperately tried to press her neck against the blade, preferring death over humiliation.Â
But she was so weak that every time she inched closer, Hammer just yanked the knife away.Â
Right now, even killing herself was out of reach.Â
