The zombie–bitten guy terrified everyone. Some people screamed, others so scared they collapsed.Â
The commotion in the pharmacy instantly caught the zombies‘ attention outside the glass door. They started pounding like mad.Â
It was just regular glass. Under the zombies‘ brutal attack, it didn’t stand a chance, shattering into pieces within seconds.Â
“Stay away from me,” a stunning woman shrieked, shoving aside the guy next to her whose hand had been zombie–bitten.Â
The man looked shocked, disappointment flooding his eyes. “Honey, I got hurt trying to protect you.”Â
“Don’t blame me for being heartless. You’ve been bitten by a zombie; you’ll turn and come after me,” the woman said, bolting into the crowd.Â
Chloe burst through the pharmacy’s back door into a narrow alley. She picked a random direction and ranÂ
east.Â
Lily and dozens of others caught sight of Chloe’s retreating figure and immediately took off after her.Â
They finally caught up to her, only to find themselves at a dead end.Â
The alley was blocked by a massive wall. Chloe stood right next to it, frowning deeply.Â
Lily pointed at Chloe, seething with anger and fear, “You bitch, why the hell did you lead us into a dead end?”Â
With that, she raised her hand to slap Chloe but froze when Chloe suddenly brandished her axe.Â
Luckily, Dustin grabbed Lily just in time. The axe swung past her arm, slicing off a lock of hair. She went ghostly pale, totally freaked out.Â
“Try me again and see what happens,” Chloe said, her voice ice–cold. Her sudden intensity sent chills down everyone’s spine.Â
“Y–You wouldn’t dare. I’ll call the cops and have you locked up,” Lily stammered, terrified. She’d never seen someone ready to kill over a single insult.Â
Chloe let out a harsh laugh. “Since you put it that way, I’d hate to disappoint.”Â
She raised her axe, and Lily screamed in terror.Â
Just then, Chloe spotted over twenty zombies approaching with heavy steps, making eerie, screeching sounds.Â
She spread her hands. “Looks like we’re all screwed now.”Â

The group crowded around Chloe, all shouting accusations at her. “You can’t go. You led us here, so fix it”Â
A man turned to Dustin and asked, “What do we do now?”Â
The girl grabbed Dustin’s arm, pressing her body against him. “Dustin, I’m scared.”Â
Dustin was a middle–aged mechanic with a thick beard and receding hairline. He’d never even landed an average–looking wife. With a young girl clinging to him like this, he blushed bright red.Â
“Don’t worry. I’ll keep you safe,” he mumbled.Â
Suddenly, someone screamed. The earlier tough old lady’s face turned a sickly blue–purple, fangs bared as she bit into the person next to her.Â
“God!” a man yelled. “We’ve got a zombie.”Â
The screaming and crying were driving Chloe crazy. “Shut up. You gonna just sit here and die?” she snapped.Â
With that, she grabbed her axe and charged straight at the nearest zombie.Â
Her movements were smooth and precise. One swift slash, and she cut the zombie’s throat.Â
Ignoring the stunned crowd, Chloe smeared the thick black zombie blood all over herself.Â
Even in the cold winter, the nauseating stench was strong enough to make anyone gag.Â
The smart ones caught on, quickly covering themselves in zombie blood.Â
As they expected, Chloe ran through the zombies without getting attacked.Â
Zombies were strong but slow. Chloe swung her axe, taking out one after another.Â
As long as she didn’t get caught, she was practically untouchable.Â
Dustin was the only one who jumped in to help. Together, they quickly cleared the first zombie wave.Â
Dustin crushed four zombie skulls with a heavy wrench. When he looked up, Chloe had already finished theÂ
rest.Â
He was about to thank her, but she bolted without a backward glance.Â
“Follow her!” Dustin shouted.Â
The remaining eight people quickly chased after Chloe.Â
Chloe dodged through streets. Noticing they were still tracking her, she stopped, her eyes cold. “Get lost!”Â
Dustin stepped forward, breathing hard. “You’re pretty badass. Want to team up?”Â
“No,” Chloe replied firmly.Â

Lily glared, her tone dripping with arrogance. “I’ll pay you.”Â

‘Come on, she’s just some backwoods nobody. I’m the heiress of Caldwell Corp, she thought smugly.Â
Chloe snorted, her smile mocking. “Pay me? Let’s see if you can spend a penny right now.”Â
In the apocalypse, cash is worthless; bank accounts are just digital ghosts. Clearly, they haven’t figured that out yet,‘ she thought.Â
Dustin’sÂ
eyes gleamed with a scheming look. “Listen, girl, no matter how tough you are, you’re just one person. But together…”Â
Before he could finish, his eyes went wide with terror.Â
Out of nowhere, a massive swarm of mutated ants surrounded them. Each was blood–red, ten times normal size, with massive pincers.Â
One–on–one, Dustin’s group could crush those ants, but there were thousands. It seemed like every single ant from the surrounding nests had been unleashed. Just seeing that massive swarm was enough to give everyone chills.Â
“What do we do? I’m Lily Caldwell. My dad will pay you big if you save me,” Lily shouted at Chloe, panicking.Â
Chloe ignored her, pressing against the wall, eyes locked on the ants.Â
‘Today, the temperature is at least minus twenty degrees Fahrenheit,‘ she thought. ‘Now, even the mutated insects are this freakish.Â
“Oh no, they’re coming,” Lily shrieked, ghostly pale. Her panicked cries attracted nearby zombies, who started closing in.Â
Chloe’s face burned with rage. If it weren’t for that the mutated ants attacked, and she wasn’t busy fighting, she’d have taken Lily out.Â
With a wrist flick, Chloe whipped up a mini tornado, shredding the mutated ants.Â
But she’d just been powered. She couldn’t unleash a massive tornado to wipe out the entire swarm.Â
The mutated ants were relentless, like battle–hardened soldiers. The more that fell, the fiercer they became, surging forward with brutal determination.Â
‘Ugh, these creepy crawlies are such a pain. I oughta just torch them all. Chloe froze mid–thought. ‘Wait a sec, fire.’Â
She pulled diesel, matches, and cotton from her backpack, or rather, her spiritual space.Â
Using her wind power, she scattered diesel–soaked cotton over the ant swarm.Â
Then she struck a match and tossed it. The area erupted in flames with a loud whoosh, and soon, the air reeked of roasted ants.Â

Before the fire died, Chloe bolted. Her reinforced leather boots crunched down on the ant corpses, making a teeth–aching squeal.Â
“Y–You can’t leave!” Lily screamed, but Chloe was already gone.Â
