Chapter 132
Shawn still thought Chloe had seen him and was deliberately avoiding his gaze, just to act proud.
He thought, Women.
‘Isn’t all this just to get me to notice her? Well, she pulled it off.

‘She’d been playing hard to get for half a year, but somehow always ended up right next to me. Guess she just can’t let her feelings for me
In Shawn’s mind, Chloe was just mad at him for being so wishy washy, never giving her a straight answer about being together.
That’s why she had been keeping him on the hook.
Shawn glanced up again at Chloe, standing atop the ice wall not far away, and felt something stir inside him.
He thought, ‘With that kind of power and all those supplies, maybe we could actually make this work.
Only a woman with her kind of strength deserves a guy like me.
Just thinking about it, his eyes softened just a bit.
Emily and a few of her teammates brought out a sack full of rations bars, making sure everyone got one.
Chloe quickly ushered Linda into the emergency room. The payment counter only took cores or supplies.
Without hesitation, Chloe handed over ten level–one zombie cores.
Then she was told to wait outside.

While Chloe was waiting, a doctor came over and told her that, because medicine was so scarce, the price was pretty steep. If she wanted to keep Linda’s treatment going, she’d have to keep paying with more cores or supplies.
Chloe thought about it and realized it made sense. A single backpack full of antibiotics was enough to trade for a whole villa and 500 pounds of food.
Chloe thought, ‘If Linda wants an IV drip, it’s probably going to cost a huge amount.‘
But this was nothing for Chloe. She pretended to rummage through her backpack, but in reality, she was pulling out several bottles of saline solution, fever medicine, antibiotics, and other anti–inflammatory drugs from her spiritual space.
“Will this work?” Chloe asked.
The doctor was completely floored. He thought, ‘Who the hell brings this kind of stuff on the road? What kind of team is she with?‘
“No problem,” the doctor said.
By morning, Linda was finally out of danger and woke up.
“Mom!” Chiara cried out.
Her face was as pale as a sheet as she ran straight to Linda.
She cried so hard she could barely breathe.

Chapter 132
“It’s okay, sweetie, don’t cry,” Linda said softly.
When Linda saw Chloe, she managed a weak smile and said, “Thank you, Chloe.”
After a night of tension, they finally made it back to the villa in the early hours of the morning.

The man who got the bread was smart enough not to go back to the underground refugee camp. Instead, he pushed his cart toward another camp.
As Chiara walked alongside Chloe through the Wild District, she was beaming with joy.
“Chloe, are we going to your place now? Do you live in the Wild District? It’s so nice here! It’s way safer than the camp!” Chiara said, her voice full of excitement.
Frank, who also had a daughter around Chiara’s age, couldn’t help but smile at Chiara’s cheerful words.
“We actually live in the Guardian District,” Frank said with a smile.
Chiara and Linda both gasped in surprise, then quickly covered their mouths when they realized they were making a scene.
“What? You live in the Guardian District? Chloe, is that for real?” Chiara blurted out, her eyes wide with disbelief.
She grabbed Chloe’s hand, so stunned she couldn’t even get the words out.
They’d been living in the base for half a month, and even the best they’d ever seen was just the Wild District.
As for the Guardian District and anything above, they weren’t even allowed to set foot there, let alone catch a glimpse.
Chloe picked Chiara up in her arms and said, “Yes, we live in the Guardian District. There’s running water, electricity, and even air conditioning.”
“Does that mean that I don’t have to be scared of freezing to death at night anymore?” Chiara asked, her voice trembling with hope.
Chloe gently brushed her nose and said, “Of course not.”
“Can I take a bath now?” Chiara asked.
“No problem,” Chloe said.
Linda kept to herself, following behind the group. When she heard Chiara talking about all those comforts, she couldn’t help but wish for that kind of life too.
Then, both Chiara’s and Linda’s stomachs started growling.
Chiara was wearing a long piece of cloth around her waist, and whenever her stomach rumbled, she tightened it a bit more.
When she noticed Chloe looking at her, she gave a shy smile.
“Mom says if you tie a cloth around your belly and pull it tight when you’re hungry, you won’t feel so hungry,” Chiara explained.
Seeing Chiara tighten the cloth around her waist and say those words, everyone in the group got teary–eyed.
Chloe said gently, her heart aching, “Chiara, there’s food already waiting for us at home. Let’s get going.”
Chiara hadn’t had a real meal in ages, and her stomach wouldn’t be able to handle anything rich or greasy right now. So Chloe fished out two bowls of soup from her spiritual space.

Chapter 132
“Let’s start with some soup,” Chloe said softly,
Chiara’s eyes lit up. She asked, ‘Chloe, did you just do magic?
Linda took the cup of soup with extra care, instinctively licking her lips as she held it.
But in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to drink it. She held it done to her chest, thinking, Something this precious shendet
be saved for the kids.
“Mom, this soup is so delicious. Why aren’t you drinking yours? Chiara asked, her eyes wide with curiosity.
Linda was caught off guard by her daughter’s question and looked a bit sheepish. She said, “I’m not hungry yet, sweetie. I’ll drink it later when I get hungry.
“You’re fibbing! We’ve only had one ration bar in three days–how can you not be hungry? Chiara protested, her voice full
of concern.
Chloe turned to Linda, who was still looking pale.
“Linda, drink it while it’s hot. Get some strength back. Don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of food at home,” Chloe said softly.
“Okay,” Linda murmured, unable to refuse anymore.
She started sipping the soup, taking her time, savoring each spoonful as if it were the best thing in the world.
They finally reached the edge of a newly built, elevated road that spanned the entire Bluehaven Base.
Every so often, vehicles rolled by: pretty much the post–apocalypse version of public buses.
And now, instead of cash, one paid one’s fare with cores or food.
When Chiara saw Chloe hand over several cores without a second thought, her heart ached.
“Chloe, we could totally just walk instead,” Chiara said.
Chloe smiled softly at her and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered.”
As they rode the bus, Chiara couldn’t stop looking out the window, her face full of curiosity.
Chiara exclaimed, “Wow, it’s so nice here! There are no bad guys, and nobody’s getting hurt.
“Mom, look. There are lights. This place actually has electricity!”
She chattered nonstop the whole way.
But when they finally entered the Guardian District, Chiara was so stunned that she couldn’t even speak. She just grew quiet, taking it all in.
She’d never imagined people in the Guardian District could have it this good.
Chiara thought, ‘Wait, they actually eat a whole potato at once? I always thought you had to save it and make it last for days! Linda couldn’t believe her eyes. The Guardian District was so orderly, and every so often, squads of guys with guns stroll by, keeping everything safe.

The living conditions here were almost on par with how folks lived out in the countryside before the apocalypse.
When they finally stood in front of the villa, both Chiara and Linda were so shocked they just stared, mouths hanging open.

Chapter 132
Chiara swallowed hard, her eyes wide with disbelief.
“Chloe… Chloe, is this really our home?” Chiara stammered, her voice trembling with excitement.
“Seriously? Is this for real?” she asked again, still unable to believe it.
Chiara was still in total disbelief, her face frozen in shock.
“Trust me, it’s real! Hurry up and get inside, it’s freezing out here” Chloe urged, her tone warm and caring.
She just picked Chiara up and carried her inside.

A few people walked out, and when they saw Chiara and Linda, they acted as if it were totally normal. No one batted an eye. As soon as the door opened, a rush of warmth hit them, and Linda instantly felt all her worries melt away. She could finally breathe easy.
