“Hey sweetheart, you’re really pretty. What’s your relationship with that powered human?” Bertha asked. 

Even though Chiara was young, she’d been through a lot. The moment a stranger called out to her, she instantly bristled, alert and wary. 

Not wanting to offend anyone, she gave Bertha a sweet smile. 

“Hi. That’s my sister and my mom,” Chiara replied. 

“Oh, and what about your dad?” Bertha pressed. 

Chiara’s expression soured. “Why, are you trying to find my dad or something?” 

Bertha waved her hands. “No, no, just curious.” 

After a while, as the supplies on the flatbed cart dwindled, Bertha couldn’t hold back anymore. 

She stepped up to Chloe, trying to cozy up. “Sweetheart, my son works at the coal plant, and he’s even a squad leader. Just look at how sturdy he is.” 

She patted the chest of one of her sons. It was solid as a rock, the kind of build people get from years of hard 

work. 

Chloe raised an eyebrow but didn’t say a word. 

Bertha continued, “You’re not seeing anyone, right? I’m really fond of you. My three sons each have their own strengths. Just take your pick. 

“If we end up as mother–in–law and daughter–in–law someday, that would be awesome.” 

Chloe couldn’t help but roll her eyes. 

‘Seriously? We were shouting at each other just yesterday, and now she’s acting all friendly? She knows how to switch faces fast,’ Chloe thought. 

She said, “They’re ugly. No way I’d go for any one of them.” 

Bertha was stunned into silence. 

‘Unbelievable! She called my sons ugly?‘ Bertha fumed. 

Her brows knitted in anger. “Ugly? My sons? They’re tall, strong, and have a solid job. Plenty of girls are dying to be with them, but I wouldn’t even give them a chance. The fact that I’m even considering you is me being generous.” 

Meanwhile, Brian walked over. 

“Sweetheart,” he said, “times are rough. You’re so pretty, but that kind of beauty might attract trouble. Looks

“Look at those three guys, ripped and buff, total straight shooters. If you hook up with one of them, you won’t have to bust your hump like this anymore.” 

Chloe whipped around, her eyes cold. “Do we know each other?” 

Even as she spoke, her hands didn’t pause for a second; she kept collecting the cores from each trade. 

“Why are you so stubborn, girl?” Brian nagged. 

As the supplies on the flatbed cart ran out fast, Brian started to get anxious. 

He thought, ‘If this girl marries one of my sons, all these supplies will end up in our house. 

‘What a wasteful girl. Once she’s in the family, I’ll have to set her straight.’ 

He shot his sons a look, and the three of them marched over, clearly intent on muscling in. 

Chloe’s gaze sharpened, and in a flash, three razor–sharp wind blades appeared, hovering right at the men’s throats. 

“Back off, or you’re dead,” she warned. 

As her precious sons were threatened, Bertha couldn’t keep up the act anymore. 

“You nasty woman! How dare you threaten my sons? I’ll beat you to a pulp right here! And if you ever set foot in my family, that’ll be the end of you!” she shouted. 

Her chubby hand swung toward Chloe, but before it could land, a massive ice blade materialized out of thin 

air. 

With a swift, brutal motion, the blade sliced through Bertha’s arm, blood spraying everywhere 

She crashed to the ground with a heavy thud, her hefty body writhing in agony as she let out ear–splitting 

screams. 

The moment Chloe let out a bit of killing intent, the three guys went pale. They didn’t dare take another step. 

One of them stammered, “D–Don’t do anything crazy.” 

“Get lost,” Chloe snapped. 

The murderous vibe was so intense it scared the crap out of the family of five; they ditched their coal and ran for their lives. 

As soon as those guys vanished, the refugees rushed in and snatched up every last piece of coal in a wild 

scramble. 

Just then, the walkie–talkie crackled to life, and Mindy’s anxious voice came through. “What are you trying to do?”

A rough, lecherous voice cut in. “Hey, gorgeous, that body of yours is something else. Come over here and let your man cop a feel. When I want a woman, there’s no way I can’t get her” 

“You bastard!” Mindy snapped, her voice shaking with rage. 

The walkie–talkie buzzed with a busy signal, and the line went dead. 

Chloe glanced at the now–empty cart and brought Linda and Chiara over to Frank. 

“Frank, something’s happened with Mindy. Watch over Linda and Chiara for me. I’ll go see what’s going on,” Chloe said. 

Joan looked worried. “Maybe we should all go together?” 

“No, I’ll go by myself,” Chloe replied. 

With that, she strode off, heading straight for the Trade Market in Guardian District. 

More than a dozen powered humans surrounded Mindy, and leading them was Charles, a burly, bearded man of imposing stature. 

He had his eyes glued to Mindy’s chest, licking his lips like a creep. 

“Hey, girl, fess up. How’d you swipe my stuff?” Charles asked. 

Emily was so mad her face was flushed and her neck was tense. 

“Bullshit! The stuff is ours. Where’d you crawl out from, you spineless loser? You really think you can mess with us?” she snapped. 

“Damn bitch, you think you can mouth off to me? Boys, tie her up. Let’s have some fun with her tonight,” Charles sneered. 

Emily planted her hands on her hips. “Go fuck your mom!” 

Her eyes flashed with a sharp, electric glint, and an invisible wave of energy shot straight into Charles’s brain. He clutched his head, a blinding pain splitting his skull. 

“It hurts so much!” he groaned. 

“Charles, what’s wrong?” his lackeys shouted. They crowded around, looking worried. 

Seeing this, Chloe felt a wave of relief. ‘Looks like Emily and the others didn’t get pushed around. 

But before Emily could even celebrate, a club suddenly appeared out of nowhere, swinging straight for her head. 

If that thing hit, her head would be smashed open. 

Chloe reacted instantly. In just 0.1 seconds, she had Emily in her arms and retreated 30 feet in a blink, with the slick club in her grip.

Chloe’s sudden appearance left Charles and his crew stunned for a moment, but they quickly shook it off. 

“Bitch, mind your own business. She’s my woman,” Charles sneered. 

“Oh? Since when did a member of my Blaze Squad become your woman?” Chloe shot back, her voice icy. 

Charles froze, his eyes wide in shock. 

“You’re from the Blaze Squad?” he blurted, feeling a chill run down his spine. ‘Shit, I’m totally screwed now. 

But at this point, he couldn’t let his Thunderforce Squad lose face. 

“So what? When I set my sights on a woman, I always get her. Go ask around; there’s not a single hottie in this base I haven’t gotten my hands on,” Charles boasted. 

“Really? I heard the base chief’s daughter, Elise, is a real beauty. Did you get your hands on her too? Care to share how that went?” Chloe asked. 

Charles was scared out of his wits. 

‘Is this woman out of her mind? How dare she say that in front of everyone? Isn’t she afraid Elise will come for her?‘ he thought, panic rising. 

Just then, Felix, the Thunderforce Squad’s captain, walked over. 

Charles straightened up, his confidence surging as he snapped, “What the hell are you talking about?” 

Chloe spotted Felix, a middle–aged guy with a cane, and his cane looked just like the one she was holding. 

There was nothing special about his looks, and he didn’t walk too well. But the dude gave off a seriously creepy vibe. 

It was like he was haunted or something. When he lifted his head and stared at someone, it sent goosebumps all over their body. 

Chloe raised an eyebrow. ‘There are some real monsters hiding in Guardian District. 

“This guy’s holding back. He’s gotta be at least a third–level powered human.
