Spotty was closest to the blast and got slammed to the ground by the shockwave. Thanks to its feline instincts. it twisted mid–air and landed in a roll, escaping with just a light scratch.Â
The battlefield was stuck in a stalemate.Â
Chloe bit her lip. The Frostbeast might be smarter now, but it was still pretty si we’ll have to pull that trick again,‘ she thought.Â
Everyone went for its eyes again, while Chloe trapped it in a swirling snow tornado.Â
ne uptake. ‘Looks likeÂ
Snowflakes were coming down thicker and thicker, and everyone fighting could barely make out the Frostbeast’s shape nearby.Â
On top of that, their abilities were draining too quickly. Some of them could barely hold on.Â
Chloe suddenly snapped her eyes open. “Everyone, fall back!”Â
Everyone scrambled back, but at that moment, a shockwave of energy burst from the mutant Frostbeast, blasting everyone who hadn’t made it 30 feet away off their feet.Â
They crashed hard to the ground, coughing up blood.Â
They couldn’t even move, totally out of the fight.Â
Chloe was stunned. ‘Is this what a late–stage fourth–level mutant is really like?‘ she thought.Â
She didn’t have time to dwell on it. The Frostbeast’s blood–red eyes were already locked onto her.Â
That slow brain of its finally figured out that Chloe was the one calling the shots. And it licked its lips. ‘What a delicious scent!‘ the Frostbeast thought.Â
It could smell the same kind of power coming from her.Â
“Chloe, look out!” someone yelled.Â
As the mutant Frostbeast’s hulking body closed in, about to stomp Chloe flat, the team was freaking out, hearts pounding, eyes wide with panic.Â
Noah struggled to get up and dash over, but Spotty held him down hard.Â
“Awooo.” Spotty let out a low growl.Â
‘If that means she is dead, I’ll find you an even hotter leopard girlfriend!‘ Spotty thought.Â
Molly and Emily were the only ones not losing their cool. Molly could see the future, and Emily knew Chloe could pull people into her spiritual space.Â
The Frostbeast’s tree–trunk leg came crashing down. If nothing stopped it, Chloe would be smashed into aÂ

mess of blood and guts.Â
Nobody dared to watch, their wails echoing with despair.Â
“Chloe,” someone choked out.Â
“Chloe, Noah called out, his eyes blazing a menacing red as an eerie red glowÂ
his body.Â
Even Spotty recoiled, pulling its claws back, spooked out of its mind.Â
“Awooo.” Spotty let out a worried yowl.Â
‘Noah, be careful!‘ it thought.Â
Noah bolted forward like a streak of lightning, shrouded in a see–through red aura, and rammed right into the mutant Frostbeast.Â
The hit was so hard that it sent the Frostbeast flying over 30 feet, crashing down and sending snow spraying everywhere. The ground trembled from the impact.Â
Noah clawed at the snow with his bare hands, a dangerous aura radiating from him, growing stronger by the second.Â
He looked like he was about to go berserk, as if he was falling into a demonic trance.Â
He let out a guttural, inhuman growl.Â
Spotty’s fur stood on end, terrified. She wanted to stop him, but she couldn’t talk. She just paced in circles, frantic and helpless.Â
Just then, Chloe suddenly appeared out of thin air right next to Noah.Â
Chloe wasn’t crushed at all. She looked radiant and fierce, wielding a colossal sword that looked like it could split the sky, bringing it down in a sweeping arc toward the Frostbeast.Â
The sword, forged from every drop of Chloe’s power, was made of ice, stood 30 feet tall, weighed over a thousand pounds, and radiated an overwhelming, bone–chilling aura.Â
The Frostbeast’s eyes narrowed in terror, and it turned to flee.Â
But the sword vanished, only to materialize right in front of the Frostbeast. Before it could even react, the blade descended straight down, catching it off guard.Â
On the blade’s icy surface, the Frostbeast’s terrified red eyes were mirrored back at it.Â
The sword slammed into the ground, and the world fell eerily silent.Â
The late–stage fourth–level mutant Frostbeast was sliced in half, no mercy, no chance to fight back.Â
Chloe, utterly spent, dropped from the sky, limp and lifeless.Â

Noah was even faster than a Phantom Zombie. He appeared beneath her in a flash and caught her in his arms.Â
The strange red glow faded from his body, leaving his face covered in tears. He was sobbing uncontrollably, just like a little kid.Â
Ever since he woke up in that little village and laid eyes on Chloe, he made up follow, no matter what.Â
Most days, he barely said a word, just shadowed her everywhere she went.Â
“Chloe,” Noah sobbed, his voice breaking.Â
he was the one he’dÂ
Spotty slapped her paw over its big furry face, totally exasperated. ‘Seriously, what am I supposed to do with a master who’s got romance on the brain 24/7?‘ it grumbled.Â
‘Where’s that goddess–like, untouchable aura you used to have?‘ Spotty complained to itself. ‘And what happened to your cold, proud attitude?Â
‘The boss who used to be all ruthless and heartless, calling the shots like a storm, is gone! Now he is just a lovesick mess!‘Â
Chloe finally managed to open her eyes, gasping for breath, but her eyes were still smiling.Â
“I’m fine. Let’s go,” she said, her voice steady.Â
With a wave of her hand, she stored away the biggest Frostbeast corpse. “We scored big today. We’ll split the spoils once we’re back.”Â
She carved out a special area in her spiritual space and laid down the law for the System. Nothing in there could be touched or absorbed, period.Â
With Noah half–supporting her, Chloe struggled to sit up in his arms, her face flushed with embarrassment.Â
“Noah, I’m fine. You can let go now,” she said, trying to sound casual.Â
Chloe saw the look in Noah’s eyes, full of longing, but she had no intention of answering it. She’d shot him down more times than she could count, even if she never said it straight.Â
But the guy just didn’t get the hint. Whenever he saw an opening, he’d try to cozy up to her.Â
Noah didn’t want to let go, but when he saw Chloe getting annoyed, he reluctantly pulled his hands back, his face full of puppy–dog sadness.Â
He gave her those classic abandoned puppy eyes, looking just like a big dog left out in the rain.Â
Spotty covered its face with its paw and scooted even farther away. ‘Not my problem, I don’t know this clown,’ it thought, rolling its eyes.Â
The fighting here was so fierce that all the mutant creatures and zombies, driven by pure survival instinct, gave the place a wide berth.Â

Plus, with the Phantom Girl’s chilling aura looming over the battlefield, nobody with a death wish dared to come anywhere near.Â
The soldiers hadn’t gone far. They were still hanging around, nervously watching the fight through their binoculars, swallowing hard.Â
“What’s the situation?” William sat up on his stretcher and said.Â
“Dead,” a guy replied.Â
“What? Someone from the Blaze Squad died?” William almost had a heart attack.Â
The soldier realized he’d messed up his explanation and started frantically waving his hands.Â
“All the fourth–level Frostbeasts are dead! Captain Yates wiped them out!” he explained.Â
He was still totally stunned as he said it, like he couldn’t process what had just happened.Â
William rolled his eyes so hard he nearly saw stars, then gave the guy a whack. His face was thunderous, eyes glaring. “Can you talk without all the dramatic pauses?”Â
The soldier snapped to attention. “Yes, sir!”Â
Peyton quickly sent a squad over to help out.Â
William had just woken up and had no clue what was going on, so he grabbed the soldier who’d been glued to his binoculars the whole time and started pestering him for the scoop.Â
“So how’d they win?” William leaned in, eager for the details.Â
The soldiers standing at attention looked all stoic, but if you paid attention, their ears were all pricked up; every single one of them was straining to catch the gossip.Â
The guy with the binoculars blinked, stammering and fumbling for words. He was so tongue–tied, and he couldn’t explain a thing.Â
William gave him a kick. “Seriously, how did I end up with such a clam for a team.Â
One of the soldiers finally couldn’t hold back. “Just tell us how the fight went. Keep it simple!”Â
Everyone stared at him, and the guy with the binoculars fumbled for words.Â
“So, uh, the first Frostbeast got its belly split wide open by Captain Yates, guts everywhere, and it just dropped dead on the spot,” he stammered.Â
Everyone gasped in shock.Â
It sounded simple, but actually doing it was insanely hard. Even mortars couldn’t scratch a Frostbeast, but Chloe managed to slice one open.Â
Honestly, it sounded straight–up unreal.Â
